Morello's will never get them low enough for it to actually matter and Executioner's Calling was like having 5 items.

Morello's is a better mana regen item right now than chalice. So building it is not admitting anything other than you are a mana based AP champion. Heck, I'll pick it up on Anivia if the enemy team has at least 1 heal based champ, as I can ALWAYS use the mana regen from it AND the AOE GW is brutal for those champions to face.

Morello's is a solid item in it's own right without taking the healing debuff into account. It's pretty much always been an OK item, and with the removal of Athene's (an amazing item) it's a solid pick up. Also - tagging all 5 members of an enemy team with magical AoE makes that grievous wounds worth it. Healing spells, life steal, potions, HP/5, regenerative spells, health relics, spell vamp - cutting that in half for every player on an enemy team is pretty worth.

Ex Calling was a complete waste of gold for the last 2 seasons though, only, like, Garen could really justify grabbing it. In season 2 Ex Calling was OP though - I bought it then, and my opponents lost. You could stack 2 (1350 gold each) and get 36% life steal and 30% crit chance, along with a grievous wounds active that lasted 8 seconds on a 20 second CD. In a life-steal war, you'd always have, like, quadruple the life steal.

Man I remember at the end of season two after Twitch was reworked. He built Executioner's Calling to hit the 100% crit build. Was pretty broke.

I'd rather have more choices rather than fewer. I get that EC was very inefficient in general, but if the enemy team has a Mundo or Aatrox or Vlad, it'd be nice to have the option to take a not-gold-efficient item that allows more counterplay in niche situations.

Actually, some champions scale really well with the CDR, mana regen, and AP from Morellimicon and buy it even without the UNIQUE passive. If your only getting it to try and counter someone as Soraka support yes they just won because of that decision.
