K Forumers. Hi. It's me again. The prolific Poster who remains a mystery.

As you all know.... the jungle XP rates were changed recently, along with the Scuttler.

The forum response has been overwhelmingly negative. Junglers are complaining:

-Skirmishers who can go Conquerer are dominating levels because of their ability to level 2 duel at a scuttler. -They are getting invaded by laners. -Scuttlers are not fair because of their randomness. -They are falling behind even supports in levels.


I've posted a few responses to this, both in support, and in objection of these complaints.

But...... I feel my suggestions and objections are getting mostly ignored, as players continue to make the same mistakes.

So.... I wanted to post a dedicated authored post explaining why the changes aren't as bad as some people are making them out to be.


First.... Let's look at the patch that has annoyed junglers and what they did to the XP.

Jungle Item New Bonus:

NEW Large Monster killed grants 120 bonus experience


Let's break this down a little.

Monsters start at level 2, so every camp past level 3 receives an XP penalty on the first clear.

But..... what I want you to notice is....

  1. You can level 3 in 3 camps if you do Krugs. This means you can level 3 gank Bottom when they are probably still level 2, if you can reliably keep your HP high.

  2. If you cannot gank Bot, there is a very legitimate path to gain Level 4 to Gank a level 3 Top in your first clear.

And.... if you maintain a gank at any point in the first clear, there is enough XP to get to Level 5.

  1. Krugs are worth both more XP and more Gold than Scuttlers early game. Scuttlers are nice, but they are NOT the correct path to maximize levels or gold.

I know new jungles are sometimes hard to learn..... But I'm hoping..... maybe some people read this, test it, and suddenly are not falling behind 2 levels on their clears..... putting them perpetually behind. Kill your Krugs. They even gain XP as they level, and are the most valuable camp for XP in the game atm.

There really isn't another path that even compares to Krug's XP and gold.

There are many junglers who don't gank in their first clear. Those than can get a huge advantage that lets them pull ahead and stay ahead.

People just seem to forget that scuttle is NOT the be all and end all. Invades are far more productive then chasing scuttle spawns, And by giving up scuttle vs champions like Xin and graves, I can happily take a couple of camps off them early and path for the other scuttle (people seem to forget there are 2 at the start!). If you happen to meet the enemy jungler by scuttle at level 2 then it's pretty much a smite war, the winner gains a large amount of HP back making fighting the duelist much easily for you if you win it (I've done this on Diana against a xin and got first blood xD)

The changes have not destroyed jungle, and while some champions are currently better suited to the "chasing scuttle" style that people seem to have adopted, it hasn't changed the legitimacy of invade champions that have fast or healthy clears. Hell WW has one oft he slowest clears of all junglers, yet still seems to be considered "OP." Meanwhile Aatrox who can 1v1 WW at level 2 is apparently trash....

The issue I have is that the jungle is always the one that gets the most drastic of changes.

I am better at Excel than I am at playing League...so I have had a spreadsheet on jungle experience that I have updated over the past few seasons. Here are some images for the patch 8.10 changes: https://imgur.com/a/e3Okpth

  • Your Razorbeaks calc is off. All camps except for Krugs gives 165 exp on their first clear. The Large Razorbeak/Raptor gives 20 Exp at at level 1, but you have 70 there.
  • Camps all spawn at level 1 now. You used to get 50 Exp on the first large monster due to the level difference, but this has been replaced with the 120 Bonus Exp for your first large monster.
  • As listed towards the top of the patch notes, there is no reduction in exp when you are over the level of the camp (your sheet seems to include a 10% penalty for level 3 camps).
