What is even the incentive of playing solo in ranked?

The whole purpose of your existence is to fill in the empty space between dynamic teams. Why would anyone want to do this?

I'm going to keep playing until season 7. If Solo Q isn't back by then, I'm gone.

I don't understand why you would stay until then if SQ's absence will make you quit. It can't be that bad if you're going to continue playing for now. I'd think that you'd simply quit right now until it returned; otherwise it just seems like an arbitrary decision.

AninLegions7775 votes

You start losing your touch if you quit now. It's just like when I took a break off League to play CoD. Got back and dropped 2 tiers. Had to play normals until my hands got used to it. Stressful innit?

Electric Buyers3 votes

The idea is that you don't have to relearn everything once you start playing again a year later.

Michael7021 votes

I only play 1 game/day. And I wouldn't even do that if it wasn't for the first win of the day IP boost and a bunch of per win IP boosts I have. Also to keep in touch with the game. I had to stop playing for a while when I got deployed. I was very rusty when I got back.

It seems so hard for you (because I see you making this argument on more than one occasion) and others like you, that maybe people don't WANT to quit playing.

I mean, people are usually so vocal about this issue because, believe it or not, they actually like this game and want to play this game. The fact is, people can only wait for so long and will eventually just give up.

Be edgy all you want and say "just quit then", but the point is going so far over your head I'm surprised you can see it enough to respond to it at all.

While I don't mind Dynamic Queue that much, this is what Riot has always been like. They won't revert anything. EVER. Except on Lee Sin and their other baby champions.

They'd rather rework a champion rather than revert a gamebreaking nerf/buff.

Im out Oct21st. Civ6 will be out then, and Star Citizen should be a few more patches into alpha, making it a cooler experience.

My thoughts exactly. I haven't purchased RP since they said Solo Q was dead, and I'm not planning on it. I'll hold onto my current RP in case they release something I really want. Most of my friends have moved to other games or just don't rank anymore. I don't hate DQ as a concept, but i hate it as my only ranked option. I'll continue to play it with my remaining friends because I enjoy their company, but I've already told them that I will be done with LoL if Solo Q doesn't come back next season.

What discussion is there to open? I was a big Dominion player since the day it came out and all the discussion in the world didn't save it from being utterly fucked by Riot's incompetence.

I know from experience that nothing is going to bring back solo queue. Riot "solved" the Dominion problem by giving us icons and now Riot is "solving" the lack of solo queue with worthless stickers.

Papa Slothy2 votes

I think the stickers is their attempt to make us realize "wow so many ppl play dynamic queue, maybe it isn't so bad!!!"

but then came the counts of solo players playing a few games of dynamic and then getting a dynamic sticker

Leonerdo1 votes

Neither of those were/are meant as complete solutions. And I'm sorry about Dominion, but not all games can be supported. Some games fail. I still grieve over Dawngate, but I'm not blaming Waystone Games for that. (I blame EA a little though)

"but muh individual skill"

Its a team game, if you don't suck then you should be able to find a team easy

"but muh.."

but what, you now have total and complete control over everything. If your friend disconnects too much then kick him off the roster. If you need an aggressive adc don't roll the dice anymore, as a support main you should have 10 of them lined up at any given time in your friends list even if they aren't really close friends for example. There's no excuse anymore. Literally pick up teammates as you play. Did your midlaner suck? Fine, ignore him and recruit that toplaner who actually made it to dragon on time, a huge accomplishment in bronze but you'll need someone else when you get to silver.

"BUT MUH HONOR"

Yoloqueue players have no honor, they are lone wolves with no real purpose. if you want to be an honorable player then raise the standards for recruiting.

this isn't a strategic discussion its a game design discussion. You could be faker for all I care the math and simple logic still speak louder than you. In a constantly evolving game where you are only 1/5th of any given team where even an afk can potentially contribute to increased odds of victory you cannot pretend that your achievements were anymore than luck with a dash of talent.

Even if you consistently get to diamond riot's interference with your matchmaking through your MMR which wasn't attained solely by you and your efforts can contribute to this unfairly. You get competent teammates and play a much different game than those who didn't get the opportunity.

One's rank can't overrule this whether they be bjorkerson or Leeroy Jenkins.

In premades on the otherhand you can simply say that when you join a team you either create a negative trend or positive trend on their advancement. Nobody else's winrate matters. There is only the team. You chose your team and you chose when to and when not to try and change the team. Or the team chose you. Either way. If you don't suck there should be a team that chooses you anyways assuming there's any worthwhile incentive which there sortof is.

Answer me this, how can you evaluate a system, that you never use?

Its like me not eating any food and then evaluating the meal.

... you can't really effectively evaluate food by eating it. In fact, in a way you actually become less qualified to do so once you've tasted it or seen it at all and gained bias of any kind.

Of course you might call in a professional to test the food but in this case the professional that has degrees in the subject is riot who says their own product is working out... ehhh yeah lets not go that route maybe?

There are many ways to evaluate a "system" that you do not use. Sometimes it even makes you more qualified depending on what manner of "system" you are talking about. On the same note there are systems that follow a indisputable pattern with a particular benefit that, while debated anyways, is not really up for debate. One example is the fact that dynamic queue will always be more "fair" than soloqueue "under ideal conditions" which in this context is better referred to as "perfect play".

TL;DR

if a system that has not been used cannot be evaluated then chess computers wouldn't be a thing and computer gaming in general probably wouldn't exist. Nobody has time to playtest every ridiculous idea but many ideas have difficult to deny pro's and cons.

Dextix LT2 votes

I partly agree with you, it is not a must requirement to use something. However it gives better insight into the issue.

And i disagree about dynamic being more fair than soloq under ideal conditions, because the problems with dynamic come from the core of dynamic that cannot be fixed or removed. Even at ideal conditions DQ is a worse system and less fair to the people playing.

SQ under ideal conditions however would provide a more fair and even playing field and would also be more accurate in deciding a persons ranking.

In Dynamic queue you have control over who you play with and partial control over who you play against based off who you pick to be on your team, its still mostly random but random opponents aren't actually necessary to assess skill as long as there is a finite number of possible opponents. There is a finite number at any given rank, this rule may or may not extend to infinite but I'm not attempting to figure out if that's true or not.

Soloqueue can only really work if there is something to show that you did or didn't contribute your share but even then there's a luck factor. When you are allowed to make a 5 man premade there is no luck factor. There are brutal hurdles to get over like your schedule in general but there is no luck factor.

If your teammate goes afk in a freak storm in the gulf.. if youre playing soloqueue then you are just shit out of luck If your teammate goes afk in a freak storm in the gulf.. if youre playing dynamic queue then you had the power to choose your teammate and anticipate any problems that could arise. It was your choice and you even had the chance to practice with them at different times to assess skill and connectivity during storms and DDOS attacks if they are willing to tell you enough about themselves which can also be criteria for your choosing them.

In soloqueue there is an inescapable and highly significant luck factor In dynamic queue everything is your own fault.

dynamic queue is always more fair but that doesn't mean that everyone is well equipped to live by the laws of the jungle or whatever you'd like to call it.

What you are describing, is not DQ, Its ranked 5 v 5 full teams. Which i have nothing against, if they have their own separate Q. DQ however mixes both solo and premade players, thus creating an unfair field for teams to play in. DQ can have teams of solo, duo, trio and quadra players in the same team mixing them up. Which is not good. I think you are completely mixing DQ with ranked fives.

Yes, in SQ you got 4 random people. But so did they. Everyone is in the same boat, everyone is at a simmilar skill level. And it is balanced in a way that even without luck or with luck you will always belong in your skill level because you are a constant factor. The enemy has 5 people, 5 chances that someone will troll or feed. You have only 4. This means that every solo player has odds in his favor. This means that the only way for him to rise or not rise is to improve or not improve in skill.

The system was perfectly designed so you could not be possibly kept down by anything else other than your skill.

And for the ending, yea, you are obiviously mixing DQ and team 5 ranked. They are not the same, they are not even comparable.

DQ gives you the choice to be inefficient and still participate. In this sense its exactly what I described, going solo is a decision now and its not an ideal one.

Now on the otherhand there are issues with DQ not related to the scope of the benefits I mentioned. DQ is always more fair but I also compare it to the law of the jungle. If you are unwilling to do what you have to do to stay competitive then you will simply not be competitive. But that is your CHOICE now.

If that were true Riot wouldn't have even made Dynamic Queue. They would have just kept 5v5 ranked and nothing else.

Your logic is infallible.

Let's use driving to explain this. The road commission wants you to not drive to work solo. So they create ease of access to and incentive to not drive solo. (Car pool park and rides, busses, ect) They do not ban cars and only allow you to take buses

"Your logic is infalliable. "

Your 'parallel', if you can even call it that, misses a crucial aspect: the road commission doesn't require solo drivers for roads to function.

Neither does dynamic queue. They just know it's more profitable to allow everyone to participate. That's why they give incentives to some instead of banning others.

Aside from just this however, short queue times are impossible in the system they created without solo players.

Prior to the dynamic queue update it was limited to one duo per team. IE teams could either be 3 solo with 1 duo, or 5 solo. No other setup was possible.
