How hard is it to get the wqew combo on ryze down or do I even have to

I heard ryze is strong again due to the new mage items. He's fallen in the cracks but will possibly emerge from the ashes. The changes to his 1st 2 early items into the full items are much better for him. He gets more sustain. give him a protobelt and he can escape for free. You get boots and frozen heart as well. Then voidstaff. If you had an ap top, go abyssal scepter. That's the basic build. You can't combo like you used to when he was 1st reworked since the charge system. You can only get 6 spells off before it deactvates (start at 3 stacks then the e will reset the q and so on). How hard is it to get this down. Do I even need it with the item changes. Hypercarries ftw.
