Why did I all the sudden see people complaining about over-sexualized characters

'TRIGGERED FEMINIST MEME' by Bauzmann

I've been seeing this more often lately. Even hashinshin made a video about it. Let me get something straight. If you are complaining about them being thin, they are thin for the same reason the guys are buff. They are all warriors. Also illaoi is different where she is buff af for a woman. Also women body builders look freaky. If they re timed, fine but actual bodybuilders look like men. Gee I didn't know east Germany was still doing anabolic steroid and I didn't know they still existed. Not complaining about ilaoi though. We also ahve chareters like Eve who is a succubus or arhi who is based around charming men to feed on their essence to become human. Then there are some who don't get allot of food like sivir since she lives in the desert and mf is a sailor and has to ration food for the crew. Sure her tits are oversized for how thin she is but still. Did antia sarkisean turn people in lol into femanazis. Why is this all of the sudden happening when it's been going on for years without anyone batting an eye at it.

People like to complain about everything, that's their way to socialize. I like over-sexualized characters as long as it matches their theme, like Ahri.

Meanwhile they watch female streamers literally stripping in front of their screen

We need to empower these clearly oppressed females in the mostly male dominated space because fuck patriarchy. They are free to do whatever they want and when they get called out for having their asses/tits on the stream, well that's clearly cyber bullying. Working as a camgirl certainly doesn't pay enough from the people who want to pay for it so peddling your trade to teenagers is a more lucrative business strategy while you can pretend to play games.

It's easy money. You don't see any other men playing in their underwear with a bulge cam, they actually play games on a site that's entirely based around streaming the said activity. Can you imagine if some did? Well, that would've been a ban for life. Hell, Dansgaming got his emote removed because SJWs said it "offended" them and i bet they don't even watch his stream. Meanwhile, Twitch just gives these females a slap on the wrist when they breach ToS multiple times because hey, equality is not when both men and women are encouraged to participate with the same rules applying to both. Equality is when said women get multiple free passes while breaching ToS because dammit, we need more female streamers.

LMAO.

Do you honestly listen to yourself? You just made two entire paragraphs complaining about women and the trans community and still seem to think you aren't being a blatant bigot...What's it matter what women wear on stream?

Does it matter whether they are or not? Streaming is work. Sex work is work. Whether you place them in the former or the latter category...they're still working?

The only reason you have to try and place them as 'cam girls' is because you're implying that sex work is somehow less valid than a 'legitimate' profession.

At the end of the day, they're just streamers.

over-sexualized characters

Ahri

I know it makes sense given what people in Ionia think of her but it still makes me pretty sad that almost everyone categories her as a slut or something of equal sexual quality. I'm gonna get meme'd for saying this but this isn't the case in her lore (in terms of who she is) and it makes me sad that she's generalized as such.

Ahri is basically a good-meaning vastaya who used human souls as magical cocaine until she learned how unfair & morally wrong it was, to the degree where she's stopped for the most part (unless she needs their energy, memories etc. like you see in 'A Fair Trade') and chosen to focus on other things in life. I mean can you really blame her for what she did considering that she was raised by icefoxes (not vastaya - WILD ICEFOXES) & had no clue as to the horrors she was committing until she absorbed the right memories? She was basically doing what made her feel good until someone told her that she needed to stop - hence the 'magical cocaine' analogy.

tl;dr: Ahri did nothing wrong and doesn't deserve to be called a slut, blame her family for ditching her & letting her be raised in the wild by icefoxes.

AwesomeGuyDj3 votes

I thought ahri's lore was that she was an actual fox that absorbed magic. Or is that old lore.

The problem isn't that sexualized characters exist.

The problem is that characters who are women are far more likely to be sexualized than men--independent of whether it makes sense for that character or in the world those characters live, and the way those characters are sexualized often appeals to only a very specific type of man.

For example, there isn't a single black woman in League of Legends, and there are only two black men. That means only about 1.4% of League's champions are black. Whilst the US is obviously not the only country to play League of Legends, it is one of the largest, and Riot Games was founded there. Approximately 13% of the US population is black. We'd expect there to be closer to 17 black champions if we used US demographics.

As a living breathing gay man...I promise you that there're almost no men in League of Legends who are sexualized. Buff men are power fantasies for men. They aren't 'eye candy' for women or men who are attracted to men. If I so much as mention the fact that I have a boyfriend, I'm 'shoving my sexuality down others' throats'...meanwhile I get to listen to inane comments about Sona's or Ahri's breasts constantly.

Some of us aren't straight white abled cisgendered men. We want to have characters that appeal to us.

Believe it or not, but they give out actual degrees for studying these topics. There're these whole communities of people who write thesis papers and gather data for Women's and Gender Studies, Sociology, and Anthropology. Those papers are even peer reviewed and harshly scrutinized..and then refined! Just like every other academic profession.

I literally just provided you an actual statistic (which is easily verifiable) regarding black representation in League of Legends.

Here's another one: There's exactly one champion who is confirmed gay out of the 141 champions in LoL. Two if we count Taric, where a developer mused in a Q&A that he probably wouldn't care about gender. That's .7% if we just count Varus, and 1.4% if we count Taric. Either way, the LGBT population in the US varies state to state, but is between 2-8%.

These ideas aren't anything radical and aren't being pulled out of nowhere. You're the one making bold and unqualified claims.

Chembaron Yamada12 votes

As far as I know, Taliyah is confirmed as bisexual. Vi is heavily hinted as bisexual as well.

And there is one important thing missing in this argument: you let it seem like all these champions not directly confirmed as homosexual or bisexual would be heterosexual.... But they aren't.

In fact, there are not so many champions with directly confirmed sexuality, simply because it never mattered in their lore until this point.

Yago1 votes

That may be the case for Taliyah. I am pretty slow to work through the newer lore, and I certainly don't see the posts of every developer. Vi may also count as bisexually coded, but it could still easily be argued that she is not. Either way, that is still very different from an explicit confirmation.

And yes, you're correct. We do make the assumption that most characters are straight until told otherwise. There's good reasons for doing so. Have you ever heard the phrase 'the exception that proves the rule'?

For example consider this: 'Olaf removes all disables from himself and becomes immune to them for the next 6 seconds.'

We can glean, with no other knowledge, that champions are not typically immune to disables. Why? Because if they were, that information would be redundant.

Chembaron Yamada5 votes

This is just about your own expectations, tho. You are the one assuming that a champion is heterosexual, just because it isn't proven otherwise. And Riot simply doesn't have to confirm a sexuality if it's not important for the story of the champion.

Varus' sexuality matters, because he is 3 beings fused together, 2 of them being lovers. But how does the sexuality of Jinx, for example, matter? Until now, knowing that Jinx is lesbian would change absolutely nothing.

At this point it is just like in real life. I meet plenty of people and I already automatically assume that someone is bisexual until proven otherwise. There are many people I meet in university and I have no clue about their personal sexual preferences, because they simply don't matter in the context I am working with them and people don't always smack you in the face what they are digging.

Hetero- is a Latin prefix which means unlike/different. Homo- is a Latin prefix which means like/same.

Trans- is a Latin prefix which means across from. Cis- is a Latin prefix which means on the side of.

Cisgendered means the opposite of transgendered.

I'm sorry that you were so ill informed, but this is easily verifiable. These are Latin prefixes which have been around for hundreds of years.

They're found in various other words like 'heterogeneous' or a concept in chemistry called 'Cis–trans isomerism'.

again, its a made up word that is used in a derogatory way towards people who identify as the gender that they were born as.

Oppression is...very relevant to the lack of representation of minorities? And when deciding which words are socially acceptable and which are not?

Cisgendered has no abusive historical precedent. The term has been around for quite some time in academic contexts used...to mean 'not transgendered'.

the words themselves are not the issue, it's the context and intent of the words.

the fact that you're using the word cisgender, to create an argument and make people who aren't transgender, different shows that you're being unfair and treating somebody differently based on their gender orientation(which i dont personally believe in)

people are people if you treat a "cisgendered" person the same as a trans person, you're a good person, if you don't you're a bad person.

the fact that you are both anti non-trans people, and anti male, shows that you're not only sexist, but insane

It's not that your opinions don't matter because of what you are...it's that your opinions aren't qualified. You can't really speak from experience if you're not a minority, and you can't speak as an expert without an education.

glad we can keep this civil, only wanted to add to things:

  1. I don´t mind using specific terms especially in academia where it is important to be more precise, but I feel it often gets used in an everyday-situations where are simpler description would have sufficed, just to set a statement, which then feels forced. Like I said I don´t mind as long as I am not told how to speak.

  2. I guess the problem is, compared to sub-atomic particles, which only affects those, who study them, those social/political issues are something that involves everyone, so it´s natural that everyone tries to prove their own opinions as the correct ones. My problem with this authoritarian approach is that it pretty much shuts down every chance of having a genuine dialogue. Imo as long as your arguments are valid your opinion is valid regardless of who you are.

Some of the most interesting characters are even undead. So what's the hullabaloo about sexualisation/lack of diversity/etc? It's a game, not a political tool. I stay for the gameplay and the lore but I would never give a flying fuck about the gender representation and whatnot. Also, I don't think people go into ranked and think "You know, I'm gonna pick MF into a Draven/Brand lane because she has nice t*ts".

Representation still matters, whether or not you feel it affects you personally. There are many other black people who DO care. In fact, there are all kinds of people who want to see better representation for...all kinds of reasons! I'd like to see better representation for my friends, for example.

Race and gender are important because, whether League's setting is on Earth or not, it is consumed by and affects people who are.

Why is it accepted that so much of Runeterra is white, for example? You cannot seriously assert that such is entirely happenstance and not at all related to the predominance of white culture in our society.

That's already a political statement.

We're not MAKING things political. We're challenging things that already are.

Some players fall in love with their main champion as a result of their lore--regardless of the way they are actually played. It is not so hard to believe that a character's race, gender, sexuality, etc. affects who might enjoy them.

I don't really see why people are so concerned with being represented in an artificial medium when it doesn't matter at all.

Race and gender are important because, whether League's setting is on Earth or not, it is consumed by and affects people who are.

The races and genders of champions in a video game that you are not forced to play should in no way affect someone.

Why is it accepted that so much of Runeterra is white, for example? You cannot seriously assert that such is entirely happenstance and not at all related to the predominance of white culture in our society.

The provinces in runeterra are based on real world places, freylord is based on Scandinavia which was white, Demacia is like western europe in the middle ages which again was white, noxus reminds me of the persian empire who were mixed ethnicities, ionia is primarly oriental, with heavy themes from feudal japan and ancient china, shurima is based on a saharan civilization unfortunatly the shurimans died a while ago with most the ones remaining being are either darkin or ascended, bilgwater is a pirate town.

So what other place would you suggest riot includes in their world where more people of color can be made.

Some players fall in love with their main champion as a result of their lore--regardless of the way they are actually played. It is not so hard to believe that a character's race, gender, sexuality, etc. affects who might enjoy them.

you main someone because you enjoy playing them lol, i cant think of another reason to main someone.

The answer is that SJWs are trying to make riot go broke because they expect everything to be geared exclusively towards their own tastes and anything that isn't should be banned.

The answer is that SJWs are trying to make riot go broke because they expect everything to be geared exclusively towards their own tastes and anything that isn't should be banned.

Now if riot decides to make french maid ahri, nurse sona, pumping iron ezreal, or whatever then I say more power to them.

If you want to know how to run a franchise into the ground just ask disney lucas film.

Best tits and ass. And amazing thighs. And divine body form.

Those unrealistic standards truly oppress us all.

I'm not buying the complaints OR the justifications about sexualized characters. Both are dogshit.

Ashe's breasts should proove really troublesome for her to actually use a bow like that. Have you seen the body of most female athletes? There are many over-sexualized characters in most games. That's a fact. There are no "b-b-but they warriors and warriors = big tits" happening.

However, why should it be wrong? Are the complainers that uneasy with the idea of sexuality? Are they really thinking that a woman's body is something either sacred or dirty? These are just boobs, period.

They ran out of things to complain about, and decided to complain about design choices. (shrug) Yes, sometimes it's overdone (look at every female character in fairy tail), but sometimes it's done to fit a theme.

My only problem is having someone go into battle on heels. Kai'Sa's v-neck, stuff like that. Those are minor details and are way more into the area of "bad designs" than anything to do with sexualization.

I 100% agree with the post but I think evelynn is honestly way too much.

Like have you heard her voicelines? Im genuinely afraid to quote some of them just because i might be banned.

I know that it fits her thematically, but it's really a step over the line.

I mean, one of her lines is literally just her moaning and saying "more, more." Isn't that a bit much?
