Is Illaoi just weak, or is there something I am missing?

I haven't played enough games with her to be "good" with her, but everytime I play her it feels underwhelming. I know her point seems to be her E, but even then the tentacles are a joke to dodge and super easy to kill, sometimes before they can even properly spawn. Also, I noticed that damage reduction post about subsequent tentacles, and it makes me think that she is just a poor pick when there's so many better options. I may stop bothering with her.

The damage reduction on multiple hits has been on Illaoi since release. They never mentioned it in the tooltip though.

She is pretty bad right now. However, Riot is trying to get her to a more healthy and balanceable state, while also removing "If I get behind, I'm useless, but If I get ahead, the game is over", as well a pumping power into her late game.

if illaoi ults. you just walk away. its funny. she can be strong and abusive in the early stages in lane due to her high stats but you can play around her easily.

It sucks, because I do like her kit. She seems to have either too many gimmicks to properly give her power to succeed, or might be too binary which makes her easy to outplay.
