What is the point of promos again?

Anyone know what the actual point of promos are? I mean if you win enough to raise your MMR to the next division, why do you have to play a promo series to get to the division that you should already be in? I think Riot should get rid of promo series and get rid of a lot of the protection for falling. Falling a division wouldnt be a big deal if you just won the next game to get back right? And climbing would be more accurate instead of having people with massively losing W-L ratios getting held in their division by some artificial safetynet. On the flip side its more ewarding for those who are playing well because they climb to the division they deserve without having to struggle through some pointless promo series.

For the life of me I can't think of a legitmate reason as to why promo series and safety nets exist in a ranked ladder. Could someone fill me in?

Promo games and demotion protection are put into place to prevent ranks from rising and falling all over the place. It makes your current rating more stable. It's not like something like rocket league or overwatch where you will constantly bounce up and down 1 rank every time you win/lose.
