Going a little overboard with these Naut changes

FantasySniper··13 votes·7,150 views

Staggering Blow (Passive) duration now .75/1/1.25/1.5 at 1/6/11/16 from .5/.75/1/1.25/1.5 at 1/6/11/16/18 Depth Charge (R) Cooldown lowered to 120/100/80 from 140/110/80 AP ratio on line damage increased to .8 from .4 Targets hit "along the way" are now also stunned for 1/1.5/2 seconds.

For those who don't know, Naut's ult already deals 200 / 325 / 450 (+ 80% AP) to the main target, and 125 / 175 / 225 (+ 40% AP) to secondary targets (those hit "along the way"). The main target gets knocked up for 1 second, and stunned for 1 / 1.5 / 2. Secondary targets are knocked up for 0.5 seconds.

I know that Naut isn't doing so well in high elo, but it is not ok to dish out this many buffs at once. His ult goes from a targeted CC to more of a "hit whoever's farthest back", because anyone between you and the target gets stunned just as hard as the main target.

I don't know about you, but he does NAUT need buffs.

FantasySniper3 votes

He does, but this is too much.

We won't be shipping this whole changelist. The changes we're still interested in are the Staggering Blow duration, and Depth Charge stunning targets hit by the line.

They'll get around to that after they fix the other 50 or so abilities with broken/inaccurate hitboxes.

Like that anti-Blitz tip "He shoots his hook from one hand, use it to your advantage.", which is completely false.

FantasySniper1 votes

Thanks for the reply! The secondary target stunning is exactly what has me worried, though. It matters less who you're targeting, so you might as well should slap it on whoever's farthest back. That kind of removes the whole point in there being a main target.

One thought: What if you were to include that the damage the primary target takes/airborne duration is reduced by 20% for each enemy champion hit with the line (minimum of 40% damage). Kinda like most aoe ults/abilities. It would make it a counter play to naut ult to help the targeted individual by jumping in front of it??

Atanchan1 votes

I get the feeling that you're supposed to be lining up these big ults that hit the entire team, though. That's why they're playing up the AoE aspect of it, so it can be Malphite-style team-wide initiation rather that a slower Lissandra ult.

TSP ECLIPSE1 votes

Yeah but its a long range point click lissandra ult/malphit ult. You can dodge malphite ult but can't naut. And you can now stun others too

haha, nautilus, ship, seafaring puns.

This has got to be a joke. Hes already OP as fk.

Whoever he picks to die, dies with zero counterplay. Theres no point in ever playing an ADC in this game with all this bullshit.

Ralanr14 votes

No point in playing an ADC? Still see them every game.

Honestly I think people would be glad if we could see games without ADCs for once. It would mean diversity is working.

By completely forcing a group of characters out of viability, that means diversity is working...? That's the definition of an extremist attitude, "I don't like this thing, so it should go away".

Ralanr3 votes

What I don't like is how ADC is required to be played by marksmen in bot lane. While we have marksman that can successfully play top (much to a top laners displeasure) we don't have melee champions that can play as carries in bot lane against them.

Why should one class get the diversity to play in all lane and jungle why everyone else needs to only play a set amount of lanes?

Counterplay: Avoid his Q. Counterplay: Move damnit Counterplay: Attack when skills are on cooldown Counterplay: Lord Dominik's Regards

VoidStaresBack10 votes

Counterplay: don't line up in front of him like ducks in a row.

Cheekynorth1 votes

Exactly

VoidStaresBack4 votes

You say that, and yet ADC is still considered to be a very important role in the game and the bot lane carry position still hasn't shifted over to anyone but an AD Marksman. I think the majority of the playerbase disagrees with you here.

I wonder if you've ever actually played this game. Every post you make about a champion has these wild theories that make about as much sense as the flat earth theory that has the solar system revolving around it.

Also, the real joke here is "overboard." Cause Nasus was chucked overboard.

I don't think it's over the top. Look, with these forced 1/1/2 lanes coming to the LCS, carry top laners won't be a thing. So we need powerful tanks to destroy the enemy team.

Naut's new ult will essentially be really easy to play around with voice comms, but it creates chaos ON the voice comm. The person who gets targeted has to yell to everyone to scatter, then everyone has to report where the enemy is moving while they're scattering and regrouping. It's actually a great way to force some discord into a perfectly oiled Protect the Kog comp so you can dive them.

There is more than enough aoe CC in this game. The difference is the rest of it has to be aimed. Naut is a cc machine as is. Giving him more on his ult is I think a bad idea, and reduces the uniqueness of his ult.

If he needs love, it should be elsewhere. You gotta remember, Naut is oppressive when even slightly over the line.

Champion Skin2 votes

Isnt the fact that it hits people along the way and it being so darn slow at long range what makes it unique? There are lots of other point and click CC abilities like.... Skarner ult, Vi ult, Malzahar ult, Warwick ult

And aiming Nautilus ult to hit multiple enemies relies on enemies positioning in a way that allows the ult to hit more targets

TheSingularity2 votes

Naut doesn't need more cc or dmg on his ult because his post 6 strength is not the problem. I don't mind the passive buff, but I'd prefer a damage buff on it, to give him a bit more burst as I doubt this cc duration increase will change much. Cos if you've been cc locked by naut you're probs dead anyway if he's got help (which is usually the case when ganking)

His problem is his low mobility compared to many other champions (EVERYONE IS FASTER THAN ME WHEN I GOT MS QUINTS ON+swifties), crappy clears (as a result of damage nerfs), his reliance on core items (he's a lil feast or famine) and the slight mobility boot cost increase.

These both slow down nauts early game ganking potential like crazy and place him under enormous pressure to get sh*t done, as power farming is not an option for him (braum jungle can power farm faster than him... without splash dmg) . It's slower as he has to farm more camps with slower clears to achieve his first power spike with mobility boots. And since top lane is no longer a prime target (naut sucks at herald) you're limited to the 2 shortest and hardest to gank lanes for a nautilus (to maintain drag control)

I'd personally like his W dmg to scale with his hp, like its shield strength as opposed to ap in order to boost his clears after cinderhulk.

Another potential fix for when he has no choice but to power farm (lanes are to fed), would be to change immolate (cinderhulk passive) to sapping barbs ( the old spirit of the ancient golem passive). This would allow both it and a sunfire to be bought for clear speed. Which wouldn't be an attractive option for champs like sej, grag, rek sai or zac as they can already clear the jg faster than it can respawn while weaving in ganks. Resulting in a wasted item slot as sapping barbs didn't affect champions ( Could've been a dead mans, locket or randuins instead).

Just my 2 cents. [slayer-jinx-wink]

But who actually builds AP on Nautilus beyond maybe item 3027 and/or item 3001 in the first place?

Champion Skin1 votes

Well... Ehh it makes Baron buff slightly better as it gives AP item 3151 can maybe be decent? If against lot of bruisers or fighters which try to dive past and ignore Nautilus

lol now in addition to locking down one person for eternity he can lock down multiple people at once with the press of 1 button

Passive: Naut is overly weak early game except when he hits Q, so a slight buff to not make him be feeder material in the support lane and when running away. Makes sense.

AP ratio: tank naut seems balanced because most don't build AP.

there is a risk of fotm straight mpen naut, but its just a snowball build

Beoridas1 votes

to be fair, hes still played in top lane and is a difficult match up overall. I have nto checked his stats but im unsure if he needs those. (if he does, i feel hes gonna get nerfed quite hard in a lot of other places)
