I mean Aurelion Sol has a higher winrate mid with a slightly higger pick rate. Does he need nerfs too?

Seriously, let it play out a little bit lol.

Geauxx14 votes

The problem is more than likely that hes about to become overbearing as a botlane support mage.

Anags13 votes

He's at 49% Wingate as support though.

People just need to chill. The patch just hit.

Eedat3 votes

But Brand is a mid laner. Not a support.

IoLana20 votes

He's both a mid laner and a support.

Eedat3 votes

Pretty sure they intentionally made changes specifically to move him to the mid lane. Same with Morg.

Daunt10 votes

No? They don't wanna get him off bot and neither did they try to do that to Morg. They just helped them get back into solo lanes while still letting them be supports.

Eedat2 votes

Yes, they 100% did lol. They for sure did it with Brand and they for sure did it with Morgana

Daunt12 votes

What exactly did they do that doesn't enable them to work on the support role anymore? Buffing his damage suddenly makes him a bad support? Flawless logic.

Eedat4 votes

How about nerfing the mana regen on the spell thief line then giving him a mechanic that restores Mana when he last hits minions to compensate? How about also giving the spell thief line an internal CD so he doesn't instantly proc every stack by tagging you with anything because of his passive?

Daunt7 votes

Those are indirect nerfs and were not only meant to hit Brand lmao. And they didn't nerf Brand when they added the mana restoration on unit kills, they simply tried to help lane Brand while keeping supp Brand the same. You do get that Brand and Morg still have a bigger play rate as supports than they do as midlaners, right?

Eedat2 votes

Yes. Changes aimed directly to nerf damage supports such as Brand among others. Brand was a popular support at the time so to nerf him only in that role they decided to hit the support item instead of him directly then have him a mechanic that is only useful on Mid Brand. It's called causation.

Daunt4 votes

No that means that more mage supports were out of line or that the item was too good. You don't nerf an item if only 1 champion is good with it.

Eedat7 votes

Spellthief’s Edge Line Most mage supports already churn out pretty decent damage (looking at you, Zyra/Brand)

He was literally called out by name in the official patch notes.

Try again.

Daunt4 votes

Jesus, so nerfing him means wanting him to not go support anymore?

Illabethe1 votes

Nothing they did nerfed damage as support on either. If anything, Morg harasses faster and Harder (I play Morg) and Brand is now doing pure more damage (The Mana issues don't matter; always ways to sustain mana)

Geauxx2 votes

Thats not what im saying. the fact is when they make midlane buffs, those buff tend to fall into the sup role.

him being 49% considering hes not even a sup, and only really gets picked by autofilled players who dont want to really play sup is decent in itself.

So now they just amp his poke damage alot so going melee sups is going to feel like a nightmare

Void Baboon RF2 votes

You have to be willfully ignorant to not understand brand's rework turned him into a dedicated supp.

Geauxx1 votes

No he wasn't just because he wasn't made strong to the point of being a meta midlaner but found play as sup doesn't mean he's a sup.

That's like saying just because mord found play at adc that he's an adc after his rework, but he's not.

Illabethe1 votes

He still Queues 53% as support, has the second highest damage of all Supports, has the highest kills of all supports, and has the highest gold of all supports.

Semantics of whether he's a Mid or Support or what he does in that role doesn't matter. What matters is 53% of all brand players play him as support, and people in bot feel it. You can't lane vs a Brand. You have to turtle and hope and pray for a jungler to 3v2 it. There are no natural Support or ADC counters to Brand as support. He is currently also #2 in least deaths on a Support.

dunder kill11 votes

Brand is NOT a support period

Brand is in no way shape or form a support. The only utility Brand offers his team is a single 1.5 sec single target super unreliable stun. That does not make you a support. Just because you play bot lane does not make you a support. The same way playing Ziggs or Morde in the bot lane carry position does not make them ADCs.

Brand "support" is actually Brand "bot lane APC". Brand "support" should never ever be allowed to be a thing because essentially all that means is he does WAY too much damage with no items. Damage is the only thing Brand offers to a team. You should need items to be an effective carry. You can't get those items effectively on a Support's budget. Brand "support" being viable means his base damages are WAY too high

Illabethe1 votes

Semantics. It's still queuing up as the Support role, just a different consensus on how to play the game.

For now, I mean the patch just hit, wait till people see the spike in power, they will start showing up in more matches #BanThatBrand2018

Illabethe1 votes

He's at 54%, and 58% pre 20 minutes.

unneeded buffs

Illâoi Evê Siôn42 votes

He was at 45% win rate. Buffs were justified, they just overshot their goal.

AirKingNeo7 votes

Ornn has a 48% winrate.

Does he need buffs?

ISLAMICWARRIOR992 votes

Ornn has no bad matchups and cancer utility, brand does not.

Illabethe2 votes

Brand has no bad matchups bot lane. He controls it. He is no longer played as a mid champ.

ISLAMICWARRIOR992 votes

Brand bot isn't that hard to deal with

Hey I'm sure that I saw Brand Supp in a pro match, I think it was in 2017 MSI against G2, I don't remember it all but I saw a Brand Supp.

Anyway Brand was in a bad spot and needed buffs, the fact that he was played in a pro game doesn't really matter.

ISLAMICWARRIOR991 votes

He was played by likkrit bc he does it a lot in solo q or some shit but it wasn't that good, just a weaker brand mid.

AirKingNeo1 votes

I'm saying Winrate is a shit argument. While I agree Brand is weak, powercreep is unneeded.

Danjeng1 votes

Should have been 3% instead of 4% burn damage.

zero3565 votes

But 3 is an odd number, can't have that

Rathar Dashing8 votes

Next thing you know they add a deathfire rune back into the game, and don't touch Brand for 6 patches.

Eedat6 votes

They already said they're not adding DFT back

Illabethe1 votes

They've actually talked about adding it, and a 4th rune Keystone for Resolve.

To be honest. I would rather trust lolalytics with stats. https://lolalytics.com/ranked/worldwide/platinum/plus/champion/Brand/

Eedat7 votes

I tried checking lolaylitics but I'm on my phone and lolaylitics mobile site is trash. I can't tell if I'm viewing their default 7 day plat+ data or the 8.1 only data

Edit: your link is for the 7 day data, not 8.1 data

https://lolalytics.com/ranked/worldwide/current/platinum/plus/champion/Brand/

He's showing only 51.5% on that site though

Everyone's WR is lower in lolalytics so relatively speaking he is still in the same spot there as he is anywhere else which is a bit high. I mean he is beating low skill burst champs like Annie.

Void Baboon RF5 votes

He has a 1.5% playrate and his support winrate is still below 50%. But sure just delete him from the game what does it matter mid is total trash with nothing but kats and oris and xeraths making it impossible for you to play mages so what's another dead mage really.

Illabethe1 votes

His play Rate as support is 4.34% of all Support picks. That's about tied with every support blow the top 10:

Thresh Janna Lulu Nami Blitzcrank Rakan Alistar Leona Soraka Morgana

All but 1 of those has an obvious reason for being a frequent pick, and Morgana Is only at a 49% win rate. She effectively doesn't HAVE a role anymore.

Illâoi Evê Siôn4 votes

Is this enough to dial back a little with a Hot Fix?

Edit: Seems like he's at 50% win rate now.

Eedat32 votes

They probably should have changed his passive from 2% to 3% instead of 2% to 4%

thefance6 votes

I mained Brand for two seasons. I'm out of touch with the current meta, but I've been saying the same thing about Brand for ages.

What Brand needs to succeed in midlane is better waveclear per mana. In particular, I'd like to see the entire AP scaling on his passive explosion replaced by stronger AP scaling on Conflagration. E.g. someone like Anivia destroys Brand because he can't challenge her and he can't keep up with her waveclear.
