Wait, so... what was the point in reworking Sion?

Wasn't the main reason to make it so he wasn't kited so easily and, thus, was brought into this meta?

Because it's apparent that he's still easy to kite.

And now he has lower stats than before.

I think I'm missing something here.

No. That wasn't the reason at all. If you're going to make a stupid thread, at least have a decent reason.

It was so his gameplay style fit his theme, and more importantly, so that he would have a single reliable kit instead of two shoddy half kits.

Honestly, removing Sion's Q and replacing it with something else would have done the "Undead Juggernaut" theme fine.

His passive and ult definitely made him an Undead Juggernaut in the respect of once he gets into a fight, it's gonna be hard to pull him off.

It seems like they changed him just for the fact of giving him more counterplay since everything in his kit except for his W (Which they kept for some weird reason) was a 100% chance of hitting.

Not really. E was completely and utterly passive, and his ult was just a click for god mode button. Neither one required thought. Ball of stats champions are not fun or interesting to play as or against. They needed to do something other than just plopping a number down on the abilities.

I do think his new E is cool and I never built him AP before his rework so I don't have any experience in that area but his ult was fun as hell.

The counter to him being a ball of stats was that he was easily kited at most times. So, he would destroy you if you decided to stay near him. Kind of like Darius.

His new kit is not reliable. Also, old ad sion made used of ALL his skill really well, q allowed him to not get kited so easily, w gave him some durability along with the hp gain, e and ult gave him insane dps, he had the perfect kit for a melee auto - attacker ad carry.

No, AD Sion did NOT make use of all of his skills well, that was the issue. If you went AD, then AP was a random out-of-character magic damage point-and-click- stun, while W was still a random magic damage ap scaling shield. If you went AP, then you weren't using his ult at all, and the AD from his E was just icing on a random cake.

The reasons for Sion's rework are stated here:

As it says, Sion wasn't cohesive as a champion and his kit was Q and had 0 skillshots, making him boring and cyclical.

I was all for a rework, but I didn't think we would have to delete old Sion's kit in order to do it.

We basically buried old Sion, ordered the orbital strike, then picked through the rubble to find the diamonds we could carry through in his update.

Well, at least they didn't try to pretty it up. They pretty much admitted that they had to obliterate old Sion and start over.

But is it really that important that Sion HAS to have skillshots? I mean, if it's that much of a problem to let a champion go without skillshots, why haven't they hit people like Ryze and Veigar?

Narasimha2 votes

Ryze is being nerfed on the PBE, and Veigar already makes up for it by being squishy.

Ryze also only has a snare and while decently bursty, is not completely burst like Kassadin or Syndra. Veigar? His stun is on of the harder ones to land in the game, and his meteor strike ability is totally an AoE skill shot. Plus, like was said, both are squishy, ESPECIALLY early game.

Sion is never squishy, even if he just builds damage because of his health-gain passive and his shield, both of which were retained post-rework.

He fits his character more now

How so?

I'm not even taking his retcon'd lore into account because they changed that and his kit at the same time, so the only thing that stayed the same was the idea of "He's hard to kill and he's undead".

He is undead, hard to kill, had ult that matches him

So... both versions of him were correct to his theme?

So, we're back to my original question: "Why was he reworked into the current form of him"?

Because the old Sion was poorly designed. AP (I don't even know how it made sense with his lore anyways) had 2 abilities and could do well without having an ult. Not other mage could really function well without an ult, why should he? AD Sion really only had 2 skills too, but both of them were just massive balls of stats. There was nothing interesting to do with them.

I never defended AP Sion but AD only needed his Q and R. He WAS auto-attack based when he went AD.

Heck, I've used my abilities as AD Sion as much as any Tryndamere would use theirs.

Also, I keep hearing people say "Ball of Stats" but that analogy only seems like the banner that people are waving to justify taking away all champion's point-and-click abilities.

Which, now that I think about it, sounds exactly like Ghostcrawler.

But to return back to the topic at hand, "Ball of Stats" is usually used as some sort of brand to mark champions who more securely guarantee a win when they get ahead.

Champions that don't have to rely on skillshots so much that it would send them back below the "Doing well" bar would be considered "Balls of Stats"

Champions such as Udyr or Master Yi. Neither of them have to worry about aiming, they just do their thing and either they are successful or they're not.

It's part of their gameplay and it's alright if it is.

You're close, but not quite on the mark for 'Ball of Stats'.

A 'Stat-ball' champ just boils down to one thing: Their numbers. Are their numbers higher than yours? Then they win. Are they lower? Then they lose. But its not for this reason these champions are innately bad. Its because they have no room to make plays or to turn a situation around. Yi can rely on his Q and W to make a fight more unpredictable, while Udyr is incredibly item-based and can shift as necessary. Old Sion on the other hand, was a problem child. Sure, he could be kited. But that aside, his fights boiled down to one thing. Was he stronger than you? Then he won. If not, then he lost. It was just boring.

The point of reworking him was that old Sion was a train wreck of a champion.

Well... to be fair... It was clear what it did, it just wasn't consistent.

RNG played a large role in it. I don't really care for his new passive though since, ideally, you shouldn't ever be using it.
