Can we get rid of Aatrox's ult and give him Sion's old ult?

Blade of Justic··130 votes·5,149 views

Inspire, into your teammates, the will to fight through the pain (and the odds) by healing them with every swing of your sword.

Sion's old ult:

Cannibalism Grants Sion 50 / 75 / 100 % lifesteal and 50% attack speed for 20 seconds. Additionally, Sion's attacks heal surrounding allies for 25 / 37.5 / 50 % of damage dealt.

Effectively Powerful, Sufficiently Thematic and A** BLOOD**-y good time

I don't know if you were there but AD Sion at endgame was straight up unkillable.

If you couldn't end the game before AD Sion got farmed it was literally game over. It was definitely a fun ult to use and seeing those massive 800-900 heals on everyone nearby was incredible but my god it could never come back to this game the same as it was.

Awkward Couch7 votes

Don't forget 100% crit sion who could ult, 1v5 and live through the Jesus beam. That shit was broken.

I shudder at the nightmares.

Season 1 was League's 'Experimental' Season. Shit was crazy back then.

Not as exciting as I remember but this is what he would do.

HandheldBrandon6 votes

God that makes me nostaligic.

I remember the days When Ryze was basically an AOE leblanc and when Sion/Garen was a stupid ass op lane.

I remember me and my buddy used to do a lane we called the swiddlers lane. Swain and Fiddlesticks drain and sustain city with the CC of kings.

I miss when league was fun and more about doing crazy stuff rather than whatever it is now.

Awkward Couch1 votes

I think it's because back then the game wasn't as big. Now you have a lot of resources to win games and that's the focus instead of having fun. But that's just my opinion.

HandheldBrandon4 votes

I agree it feels like rather than making things fun they just created multiple ways of winning but forgot to add the fun part to it.

One stun and he was dead. 1v1 he was unbeatable, ofc, but in fights he was ridiculously easy to peel.

Anidan1 votes

To be fair, at that point he just started split-pushing, because what were you gonna do about it? I remember seeing a Sion on my team that got to the late-game but couldn't contribute to teamfights due to it being hard for him to do anything. So, he sat in the jungle and waited for a minion wave to pass by without his own minions nearby, scooped up minion aggro and started beating the nearest tower. As soon as his HP started to get low, he'd activate ult, kill one or two minions and be at full health and return to killing the tower.

Because he could do that to any tower of he damn well wanted, the enemy couldn't stop him very effectively (because he could just pick and choose which lane he wanted) and so he pushed to their Nexus towers. After we began a 4v5 teamfight, he went in on the towers, getting both of them down before we all died. After we died, he shoved that Nexus down before anyone could recall to challenge it.

It was like a slow, terrifying, completely absurd version of Nature's Prophet.

Kiting was how you killed AD Sion

HandheldBrandon2 votes

Sion believe it or not was incredibly hard to kite because of his stun.

alfavhunter1 votes

1v1 sure

But in a team fight not so much

With a good support kiting him wasn't that hard, I know because I mained support

And any time a Sion went for my adc he was CCed just as much as his "focus" target was

Aatrox needs a lot more changes to fix his horribly designed kit.

His Q is probably the easiest ability to dodge in the entire game, aside from his E, both of which have shit base/scaling damage.

Yet, if he misses either of them, he is punished INSANELY hard, as he will be kited without any issues whatsoever.

But it usually doesn't matter, since his damage falls off harder than almost any Top Laner. If Renekton and Panteon are naturally outdamaging a duelist-type champion late game, there's a fucking problem.

In the Jungle, his clear is pathetic, his ganking is only decent, and he can be bursted by any other Jungler since he has THE LOWEST base health of any melee champion, which is sad considering his secondary role is "Tank." Also, why not just pick Xin, Udyr, or Jax?

He needs to build tanky in order to get the most out of his "focus me!" playstyle, yet his %Health costs punish him for doing so.

His Passive makes him impossible to balance, since the value of a free revive is impossible to calculate, yet it's probably the shittiest revive in the game, since he loses all of his Passive attack-speed, making it impossible for him to fight people when he actually revives.

Also, his Bloodwell starts draining WAY too quickly; the time it takes to start draining is half the time it takes for Renekton, a champion Riot has stated should ALWAYS be in combat during the lane, to begin losing his fury, and Renekton's abilities do not cost health.

His ult sucks. Just flat out sucks. He already gets a dick ton of attack speed, so giving him more doesn't seem all that fun. The base damage is high, but as an AD champion, why does it scale with AP?

The only good thing about the ult is the extra range he gets, which usually doesn't stop him from getting kited.

His E and Ult interrupt his auto-attack animation, which makes them undesirable to use. No other auto-attack reliant champions have their auto-attacks interrupted by using their core abilities, so why should he?

Finally, his 3-hit effect system is really terrible on him, as the only way to proc it is with auto-attacks.

Almost every other champion in the game has a different way to proc these, whether it be an ability like Braum's Q or Ekko's Q or Gnar's Q applying it, or giving the champ an auto-attack reset like Vayne or Jax. Also, no one ever uses the damage part of his W after the laning phase.

Aatrox is completely and utterly broken, and needs a totally new kit; it fights itself so much, is mediocre in comparison to similar champion's kits, and is just overall clunky and ineffective at doing its job.

Makuta Teridax3 votes

To be honest, I'd agree on keeping the W if the rest of the kit makes up as it should. That ability can be a monster if used right, specially more now that we have the whole Juggernaut itemization.

Problem is, as you have very well descirbed, the lackluster kit.

If we changed Q into a more mobile spell without CC and managed to give E something cool and new, while fixing R's AA issue... Well. Thing is, what to do with the passive?

The Lexer1 votes

He could probably do well if we just increased the hitboxes on his q and e as well as a few bug fixes and slightly increased scalings

Very Hard Engage3 votes

yeah but if you heal your whole team for 50% of the health that aatrox gets.... thats just insane. his own is already wildly good for himself, thats just asking to pick/ban.

WELL THAN YOU'D HAVE TO BALANCE IT RIGHT?

I do, you could balance it and make it more interactive

Anidan1 votes

Or we could balance this one and make it more interactive, or alternatively, we could not recycle an ult from a mess of a champion that made him unstoppable in a 1v1 situation late-game and say that's good enough to be representative of his lore.

MunchCrunchLunch3 votes

why does everyone want aatrox to be a support kind of champion.

Because he's a support kind of champion in his Lore.

so OCD basically

Oberic4 votes

Think of it like this, imagine Veigar. He is a destruction machine, he is evil and a bit deranged. Now make it so he is a healing support, his stun fence is a slow fence, his meteor does no damage but like, pulls people into the center or something. Veigar the support.

That's how Aatrox is. Aatrox's lore made him sound like he would be a support fighter. He shows up to battles and makes the underdogs suddenly overpowered so that they win. In reality, Aatrox is this weird fighter carry that doesn't really give anything to his team at all.

Ralanr4 votes

We need more support fighters. We need warlords.

Who would be an example of one now? I'm just drawing blanks .-. Do we have any? WW maybe?

Technically Thresh. But Kayle is who I imagine.

And at the moment Aatrox is doing neither of those things =D

The only thing he can inspire people to do is play Xin instead.

Champions mechanics not always tied to their lore.

Champions mechanics not always tied to their lore.

That's not necessarily a good thing, though.

It'd be nice to have a champion follow their personification in the lore through their interactions in combat.

That's my opinion, anyways.

IronicGentleman1 votes

Also, I note that people have been politely ignoring the ad hominem attack, but I would like to point out that that was totally unnecessary, pointless, ineffective, and invalid. You haven't even provided proof that he gets confused a lot. Incidentally, what is that statement even supposed to mean, and how is it relevant?

MalzaharAnyLane1 votes

We could just count our lucky stars he's on EUNE's server and not NA. Otherwise he might actually be relevant and calling him out for being an insulting mongler would be necessary.

Auz the Ripper1 votes

Lore-wise he's alway been more a "Leroy Jenkins" type carry to me rather than a support

He's NOT a support kind of champion in his lore any more than GAREN is a support kind of champion in his lore.

Reading AATROX' lore you can actually see that they did not mean LITERAL buffs to your teammates. Aatrox was meant to arrive mid-fight and turn the fight around which is EXACTLY how he should be played. A dive/suicide fighter who can dish out a lot of damage before using his revive passive.

Sions old ult is awesome and strong..... and completely boring.

But if this is what the people want. Wtf am I even doing here?

kile1472 votes

I feel like changing his passive to something of this effect would be better. Right now his passive revive is pretty boring and kinda useless because half the time you activate it you die anyways. Make it so that he heals nearby allies based on how full his blood well is or something.

It increases his attack range, attack speed and fills his Bloodwell by 20 percent based on enemies hit, which also take magic damage.

Shrîke1 votes

I can't think of any match ups that would be in Aatrox's favour. I mean I've been a dirty Quinn main since her release so I've always stomped him regardless. He definitely needs help, not just one ability but a full rework IMO.

Riot: Naa.. We already have Fiora with Janna ultimate cause reasons.

Riot: Oh yea btw. We were tinkering with some abilities and decided that Aatrox would love this new ultimate. It's AOE slow that gives him shield for each enemy hit. Also it deals somewhere 5% current hp as magic damage. Numbers are fixed so there won't be any need to balance. CD is somewhere 3 minutes as we believe it's OP.

Riot: Oh yeah and Evelynn. We believe she's totally fine as an assassin that builds 5 tank items out of 6 item slots. We just nerfed her CD on R as we believe it's just too strong for her. Now it's 5 minutes CD, shield duration lowered to 2s.

Riot: Actually, we were thinking about renaming Evelynn into Sseless Malphite. But then it struck us that there are some Malphite players who could feel offended. So we'll stick with just Useless.

Riot: So Rioter responsible of "reworking" Evelynn just received a raise. He did great job. As we all know Evelynn is known for her deadly stealth. We wanted to bold her shadowy power in League of Legends, that's why We've moved stealth to her ultimate. So now whenever she uses her ultimate she's stealthed untill she deals damage. And then, after about 0,5 second ultimate deals some bonus damage unstealthing evelynn. This ultimate has moderate 60 minute cooldown. Oh and once unlocked ability has to load first. And it costs 6000 energy.

Riot: what else did we do hmm.. Oh yeah, We've buffed some underdogs: Fiora/Riven/Lee/Zed. You know the drill. Better AD ratios, True Damage, %max HP, %max HP when armor below 1000, insta kill if target isn't Lee, and that shit noone wants. Oh yeah there's 1 crucial buff: "LCS must have". At least 1 of those 4 champions have to be picked in every LCS match. If not LCS is not recorded and both teams lose.

Riot: Everything is Balanced.
