Kindred is Incredibly Annoying

Not overpowered in the slightest. But holy Hell. I never see complaints about her, so I thought I'd voice one.

You're welcome, forums.

No no. She's never overpowered. Skilled Kindreds are just effective, which is how League should be. Playing well should be rewarded.

She is, however, always annoying.

I really do have to give Riot kudos there. She might be the only champ I've seen so far (i haven't been here that long, maybe a year.... WELL ITS NOT THAT LONG TO ME WHEN IT COMES TO THIS GAME!!!) that you don't see as many complaints about. They did good there.

I triple this statement, fights against a kindred can go either way depending on how both people play. (Or if the other person is playing a broken beyond belief champion) Would be a amazing thing if even half the champions in league were balanced like Kindred. coughYasuo cough

Sion Rework, Bard, Braum, Velkoz, in my opinion, were all solid. Some might be outside a year, but they've put out a lot of healthy champions that I more than welcome to League.

True, but it wasn't his KIT that made him OP. It was his numbers. That shows a very well designed character, that Live Balance team just has to lower some numbers and he's in a good spot. A bad champion kit, is if they have to add something stupid/odd-ball/extra stat/passive to make a champion "balanced". (ie 90% dmg from AD on auto attacks, extra XP in a duo lane, ect...)

If you had been here longer, I'd just say Velkoz . I agree, I think they did an amazing job with kindred, they are also one of my favorite champs in the game. Their thematic and play style are both fun and rewarding without being overpowered.

I would addTrundle to that, he had almost no changes outside his rework, which was mainly cosmetic.

Don't forget Orianna ! In my opinion right next to Kindred in the 'balanced' spot. :P

Difference is, I advocate changes to Illaoi because she's a poorly designed, binary piece of minigame that nobody likes playing. Illaoi also receives plenty of complaints. Hell I made another thread with ~40 upvotes that complains about her.

I don't think Kindred needs changes. I just felt the need to point out that she's annoying because nobody else seems to have ever done so.

IcyPepper3 votes

I think a big problem with Illaoi is that her entire kit deals physical damage. As an AD bruiser, it just gives her way too much cleaver synergy.

I'm honestly fine with her, but if it were up to me I'd change at least one of her abilities to deal magic damage (even if the AD scaling stayed).

Boulderox1 votes

Yea... And the fact ever abliity procs her tentacles damage, which with is 100% + ad scaling... Q is a steroid tentacle, w is a targeted tentacle smash on top of dps, e allows tentacles to hit spirits and thus damage champ, and ult... Self explanatory... Her tentacles are her damage so much it is in every ability in some shape or form... Which has really unfun mechanically when you add the dumb mini game to it. Luckily she doesn't have a shield for that scaling too....

IcyPepper4 votes

I'd change her tentacles to deal magic damage, but frankly that doesn't make much sense and would cut a lot of her damage (and, ya know, she's supposed to be an AD bruiser) via penetration. Her E is the only ability it would actually make sense with, though.

She's as AD bruisey as AD bruisers get.

Boulderox4 votes

Very true mechanically and thematically... If only another entirely ad champ could get hit by the same stick...Riven, but that is my personal vendetta for her having a short dash give a shield, thematically making 0 sense... Illaoi should at least have some ap scaling due to her "priestess" background Heck, id say gut the q extra tentacle damage and make it ap scaling to do more damage on her tentacle. Having tentacles give 1:1, having any ap go towards making that do more physical.damage on the tentacle itself. If that makes any sense? Ie. Q extra damage is ap scaling but increases passive physical damage, because any abilty that is non ult that has 100+ scaling is a bad idea... But the E idea I support as well.

By no means am I disagreeing, kindred is balanced, albeit a middle finger to any assassin or burst. I feel her coming out when devourer was nerfed for ranged champs really toned her down without hurting her too badly.

Like I always think, the most balanced champs are the ones swept under the rugs by players as meh champs, Velkoz, Kindred, Bard , never causing too much trouble but is still able to be used successfully

Depends on what elo you're talking about. She's definitely very overpowered in high elo. There's a reason Diamond players ban Kindred 43% of the time and she has a 10% ban rate overall.

Keti1 votes

She has like 45% winrate in plat and below, 53% in diamond+. She needs some powercurve tuning she doesn't snowball out of control but better fallback because dear goodness does she become a walking ult if she's not huge.

Edit: though I will say that kindred is complete ez mode to face unless it's a kindred with a lot of games who knows how to press her advantage properly. As someone with over 150 games already, shes very easy to shut down in teamfights. Assassins with sustained damage especially counter her. Sure kindred can save herself from rengar jumping her, but now you have an immortal full damage rengar on your back line who can go ham for 4 seconds while his team prepares to follow up... Of course with the right synergies you can build a nearly unbeatable teamfight around kindred (azir kindred for example) , which is why I feel kindred will ultimately be doomed to extreme niche territory when she gets more nerfs.

There's nothing quite like putting a big circle over someone's head that says "I'm coming to kill you soon" and then you do it.

Only Play Darius4 votes

Funny the champion spotlight says she is weak early game and vulnerable to invades but every game I see her she easily kills the enemy jungler on their side early game (unless it's someone with a crazy early game like LeeSin XinZhao

Doctor Jarvis1 votes

Right? I never got that. Level 3 she is INSANE. She loses the 1v1 to some junglers, sure, but she has all the tools to avoid them while dealing enough damage to discourage their invades.

Handin Out Naps1 votes

She can kill anyone lvl 2 tbh. That w q is pretty stupid.

Alywan3 votes

I have 80% winrate in my last 20 games with them. Platinum 3 ~ ELO.

It really depends on team compositions. But her early clear/ganks (if you know the good runes/masteries/cc the monsters combinations), are pretty overpowered. Her burst with Thunderlord also...

Cerbearus3 votes

I love playing her! Tons of fun, and her theme is awesome too!

I find champs with get-out-of-jail-free cards to be much more annoying (Fizz Zed Ekko Leblanc ) Kindred's may seem like the same thing, until you realize that it affects enemies as well, so it creates awesome moments where if you can play around your ult perfectly, it feel really rewarding :D

Quort1 votes

Kindred also has some pretty solid mobility and great sustain which is one of the most annoying things about them in my opinion. I can deal relatively well with most Assassins but Fozz drives me crazy... xD

Sasogwa2 votes

That fucking ult man. It's like AOE Trynda's ; I hate it item 3070 But yeah she's balanced

Danny DeVito1 votes

She's in a totally fine spot. Get behind and you're staying there.

depends on how u play her, she can be disgustingly good if ahead in the slightest

Quort1 votes

Yep... They snowball very, very well. x_x

TeCoolMage1 votes

I like a champ that rewards you for being skilled, but the only versatile ability is his ult. The rest of his kit can only be used 1 way: Have good macro management and know when to counter jungle and take kills. His entire kit revolves around doing that one thing: Knowing when to dump all your damage for a mark which gives you more damage.

I'd prefer if he got the bard treatment: Awesome ult, auto attacks which make up most of your damage, but the rest of his kit doesn't revolve around more damage, it revolves around making plays and having presence.

This is what makes Kindred annoying but balanced: Only 1 trick outside of a very occasional ult but it scales with skill.

Maybe if Q and W always prioritized champions if they're in a specific range from Lamb (Not the circle that wolf creates, but a certain distance from lamb herself), Kindred can have better zoning than the 500 range around her and an extra role other than pure anti tank damage with a slow.

4thHorsman1 votes

Totally agree with you OP, she isn't overpowered or anything like that, but her kit just makes her super annoying.

LadyRenly1 votes

When she is ADC, I have absolutely zero idea how I am supposed to deal any meaningful poke to her, except by giving up entirely and focus the support

Keti1 votes

Tell this to people in diamond elo, I can never play my waifu because she's still permaban. :/

She's pretty balanced, needs some tuning to powercurve because she's broken early and exceedingly awful in teamfights without heavy zone control to abuse her ult.

MeleeNuke1 votes

As annoying as she is, shes nothing more than a squishy. Tankiness is important to a good team comp, and picking Kindred is risking that.
