Especially like this change;

item 3075 Grievous Wound duration increased to 3 seconds from 1 second.

I personally hate these changes. Not because I think tanks shouldn't have access to grevious wounds or that I think Thornmail doesn't need a buff, but just that this is all a bandaid for a much bigger issue in the game.

That issue you be the insane amount of healing and sustain that has been added to the game over the past few seasons and primarily due to runes. You used to only be able to heal from about 5% of damage done with abilities and have other small healing effects like Fleet, which I think is fine, but currently you can heal for more than 10% of your ability damage and also build two items that give omnihealing. Not only that, but Time Warp Tonic and Biscuits is taken on over half the champions in the game because of the insane amount of sustain. it offers during laning phase.

Ok, but besides that rant I would like to say I think Thornmail and a grevious wounds item for tanks should be seperate items since it forces both effects to feel weak because they are both important and strong effects. Hopefully Riot realizes this.

Right on.

I do think Thornmail should have a higher % on it's passive since you're the one that needs to take damage to use it. It would force those sustain champs to go for other targets or gimp their healing. To me at least, this creates an interesting teamfight where a tank has to do their job and peel and disrupt.

Wait someone who is actually reasonable on the boards and didnt just stop reading after I said I disagree with them and took my reasoning to understand my perspective. What is this an actual place of discussion?

It sure is. :)

I bought Thornmail today to counter a Yi running item 3091 and item 3812. He did NOT however go item 3153 , and healed MASSIVELY.

Now granted I was Vi with Warrior Augment, Tabi, Tri, and Thornmail. Maybe I just needed more HP or Frozeheart to gimp him within killable range, but Yi out healed everything i did despite Thornmail.

Healing for auto attack champs is out of control.

They can get Runes 15% Ravenous Hunter 12% Bloodline

Items 15% Death Dance 12% from BotRK 12% from Ravenous Hydra 20% from Bloodthirster 15% from GunBlade

80 per Auto while under 50% with Wit's End

Then +30% of all that with item 3065

This means that with one Auto attack they can heal for 101% * 1.3 = 131.3% damage dealt not counting Wit's End 80

This is PER auto attack

If my math is right, GW takes all that to 52.52%? That's still insanely huge. You factor in the easy to afforc Lethality and Last Whisper along with Blade of Ruined King %hp shred and tons of other things and the GW user, item wise, really has no chance despite purchasing one of the counters for healing/lifesteal.

Think about it,

ADC/Auto champ /w item 3123 - You're gimping a power spike to deal with it Mage w/ item 3165 - You probably make the most use, but it's expensive and you NEED your core items Tanks/Bruisers w/ item 3076 /item 3075 - You better have your team with you cause you try to fight whomever you're buying this for straight up they will murder you.

Isn't ravenous abilities only? And who builds all those lifeateal items? Also they go alacrity not bloodline.

Regularly buy it when I play the "supertanks", makes little to no difference.

Yeah, that's exactly why Morello was made not a CDR+Mana item.

If it weren't on the item that returns AA damage, the damage return could be made decent and the GW could be made more controlled. Hell, what it should be is 4 or 5 seconds of GW whenever you CC a champion. The fact you can only control it if you have a taunt is ridiculous.

Thornmail doesn't need a buff, but just that this is all a bandaid for a much bigger issue in the game.

This was discussed at some length just before and after it made it to live. We said at the time that it was just an easy fix to a more complicated problem which riot was unwilling to or more likely incapable of dealing with. Low and behold it completely fucked melee bruisers in the toplane while having 0 effect on the ADCs who where pseudo drain tanking with ardent.
