as garen i got a question

when you use Q/E its basically silence then inflict burst dps-ish damage on them then ult. ok? but heres my question on garen: since its more optimal (in terms of damage wise) to go this route. E them while boosting Q them finally after the shred your Q hits them for increased damage on them due to that penetration shred. how do i achieve this optimal damage condition on garen instead of the 'safer' damage burst route.

Go in on them without Q, then use E, Q to speed boost, then auto afterwards.

usually they will have a defense move or something to avoid this setup. do i have to be in bush to start this? im thinking E after a half second through a minion (phage) then use the Q booster after 4 or so spins on them you let go of the E to proceed on Q.

Unless you silence them, you will not bypass the defencive move. That is why the general combo is Q then E, because then there is the lingering speed boost from Q, and they can not use any defencive move (like flash) until the silence is over. If you are worried about the defencive moves, then you will have to resort to the Q E, otherwise, it is simply the E Q.

The auto enhancement lasts longer than the early speed boost, and the Qing later helps out with removing the slow when you start to E them (like with Nasus). Pressing W to mitigate his first Q will allow you to (early on) avoid getting hit with any other Qs from him until you Q auto him.... meaning you take a good chunk of his health with less personal risk.

oh i get what your saying E Q is for more juggernaut matchups.

Somewhat, people who have less or no actual "get away" moves.... like Maokai for example in a way.... or as mentioned Nasus. They only have 1 thing each to get you off of them, and Nasus's is a slow which can be removed with Q.... Maokai is either running you into saplings (slow, removed by Q), or is a knock back which with Q you can speed on up back at him.

Mordekaiser early on that works best, but later on you want to avoid letting him use too many abilities...

Etc. It isnt just juggernaut matchups, but anyone who does not have much escape or tank killing potential.

oh ok ill keep in mind on using garen at what percentage is usually 'kill range' at minimum? at level 6? do i ult at 25% or should i try to push it lower? thats my question also now

Silly Neeko1 votes

That depends. Garen is actually pretty "cucked" (for lack of better wordage) by the Nullifying Orb or a Hexdrinker (if ganking a mid laner perhaps). Reason being is that Garen's ulti deals magic damage except for vs the villan.... which you will nearly never have vs you in lane unless they happened to kill the jungler or are GP and ulti kill steals.

So usually it is best to wait till they are a bit lower in that case, which is usually pretty obvious when they have that after the first go with the ulti.

Also, it is for sure more of a "feel" thing. What you COULD do is look at how much your ulti does and then keep an eye on the enemy Health and just ulti when it is a little above.... because if you are 16 and they built no health or MR.... 40% could be just fine to kill them.

Health can still counter garens ult? I thought the % amount nulls that advantage. So your saying with hexdrinker in their inventory it's best to put them at 15%?

Silly Neeko1 votes

It is not a counter.... however for example, if Garen's ulti does 500 base damage.... and they have 1000 health... then 50% health works fine to kill. The missing health should kill them through resistances.

If Garen ulti has 500 base damage and they have 4000 health.... then the 20%-25% would near certainly kill, could also be used when they are higher hp and most likely kill even at 30%-35%.

but the more max health they have, the lesser hp% you need to have them at until a certain point.... which then gets into math which (dont quote me here) usually averages out to about 33%-35% hp.

xDogMeatx1 votes

Oh ok basically your ult should still kill unless they grab a hardcore magic resist item.

Silly Neeko1 votes

Pretty much, just those with lower max hp can be killed at a higher hp% because it is based on the base damage as well, unlike for example Urgot who is purely 25% hp.

xDogMeatx1 votes

That makes sense even if my brain hurts doing the math.

Silly Neeko1 votes

Yeah i didnt feel like going into actual math, so i chose easy numbers lol, hope this helped

It clarifies the mystery of garen.
