This applies to every champion and not only about irelia.

You know meddler I think many of us would like you to do the same thing that morello did in the past :

https://static.fjcdn.com/pictures/Morello+nerf+everything+got+off+wwwleaguememecom_ff34ff_3939365.jpg

Let's be logic if you do nerf a champion only 10% of people playing a game will complain 1 on 10.

if you buff too much a champion and he is OP 50% only will complain the 5 on 10 players on the opponent team.

10% of the players complaining is better than 50% of them.

Moreover there are enough champions for them to change their mains if their champion isn't OP enough.

THIS GAME NEEDS NERFS.

I have 2 mains BRAND and MALPHITE ( I play a lot of other characters too)

Brand needed a lot of nerfs and i recognise it and if malphite was OP i would recognise it and accept nerfs... However many players aren't honest at all. And if you don't nerf the Champions which are currently too strong in the actual meta you are defending unfair games centered around hard carry champions.

Let's see what i'm talking about :

ban rates :

Yasuo : 59.36% Darius : 50.39% Leblanc : 49.68% Kassadin : 48.88% Akali : 47.52% Irelia : 45.75%

Most of them have excessive mobility combined with insane damage...

i think that may be partially because the game wasnt as much of a trainwreck back then

they didnt know what he was stopping from happening, they just knew he ruined their op win-every-game pocket pick and got a n g e r y

also the state of the game has massively devolved now so we actually see how bad it has gotten for ourselves, and long for a (harsh but somewhat fair) balance lead who knows what he's god damn doing again

Or people just got used to having all their problems solved by riot nerfing and not by actually understanding the strengths and weaknesses of the champion. Something is strong the first day it's out? Instantly cries of "OP nerf plox" are heard.

People will complain regardless of whether the champion is strong or weak and most people here at boards would rather see a champion become a joke auto lose pick than anything resembling balance

#Banrates have nothing to do with balance

Show winrate, playrate, and winrate range based on number of games played. Don't just go "hurr durr their banrate is high so they need nerfs". As an example based on content in your post: Yasuo's banrate was still well above 30% when he was at a 42% winrate. He did not need nerfs because he was literally the worst champion in the game at that time, yet if we were to nerf him just because of his banrate being high it'd have gone even lower.

Ban rate does have a place though. If a champions game presence is high - through picks AND bans - then it indicates a problem regardless of win rate. Ban rate on its own only reflects how the community feels about them or in some cases the designer behind them. So you need to use it in conjunction with other stats, much like every other piece in the Pick/Win/Ban trio.

chipndip13 votes

{quoted} Ban rate on its own only reflects how the community feels about them or in some cases the designer behind them.

This has NOTHING to do with how strong the champ actually is.

Hügö4 votes

Banrate is the perfect indication of how a champion is accepted by the players. If the ban rate skyrockets the balance team should take a look at the champion and find out why the banrate skyrockets and bring up a solution.

Sure the banrate isn't the best indicator of how a champion is balanced but ßit is a good tool to look into why the players are unhappy.

chipndip13 votes

But if the only thing that would make players "happy" is nerfing the champ into oblivion, they'll find the next champion to bitch about while the players of that champ will now be unhappy. Zoe's a good example. If she becomes even relatively relevant again, we'll never hear the end of it, even if there's tons of in-game ways to deal with her yourself.

Hügö2 votes

This is then the devs job to find the spot that the champion is in an ok state. If the problem isn't the numbers that the champion is to strong that makes the players unhappy then the devs have to find a rework to make it work.

chipndip13 votes

But the champs people hate aren't always too strong. Yasuo is rarely ever too strong in comparison to how much people perma-ban and despise him, for example. You guys just say he is, and when you're proven wrong you go to the stupid "unfun" argument.

Hügö1 votes

No, just read it again. If the ban rate is high but the problem isn't any numbers in his kit it is the kit itself and so the devs have to find a solution for the problem. It isn't allways that a champion is to strong, but when the banrates are that high it shows that the playerbase dislikes the champion and the devs should look for a solution.

chipndip11 votes

That has nothing to do with balance, though. Also, once again, we'll just go on forever with one champ or another being perma-banned and permanently altered because people can't accept that champs need to do different things.

Hügö1 votes

It will then go in a cycle and every champion will be targeted at one point which leads to a more balanced game. Nerfing is healthier then buffing.

chipndip11 votes

This is a massive 180 from the days where everyone was crying for buffs instead of nerfs. What makes you think we won't just 180 again?

Hügö1 votes

We already had a time where there were nerfs instead of buffs. And riot changed it to buffs instead of nerfs and look where we are right now. A game with no strategic decisions and nearly no skill included anymore. The only decision you have to make is "will i do my all in now or after i last hit the next minion".

chipndip11 votes

Well, no, but sure, you can type that sentence.

FCJAAAAGOOOO3 votes

When there's over 140 champions and the same ~10 are getting banned every game, it's a balance problem.

DuskDaUmbreon3 votes

Did you perhaps consider it's a perception problem?

People perceive them as too strong because they got their ass completely and utterly stomped by one. Because we've all had at least one game where a Yasuo single-handedly carried his entire team to victory. People tend to remember Yasuo going 30/2/18. Or the Irelia that went 15/0 in lane because top lost lane but jg and mid didn't bother to respond until it was way too late. Or the Kassadin who was 8/1 before level 11 so he was just able to roll over the enemy team.

They don't tend to remember the 80 times before when said champion was mediocre or useless. They don't remember the Yasuo being only 1/2/4 and only really existing to protect his team with his W, or the Irelia who was only really useful for her CC on E and R. Or the Kassadin who went 0/4 in lane and remained useless for the entire game.

And, as I said, they usually have huge banrates whether or not they're strong (except for Kassadin, who only has a high banrate when actually meta). So it's often not a balance problem, but rather a mix of confirmation bias and just not wanting to learn to deal with the champion.

Everyone who knows how to actually fight Yasuo doesn't ban him, unless he's actually a counter to them, or it's a target ban.

chipndip11 votes

Weird way to say perception problem.

Lauchmelder1 votes

To be fair though Yasuo is gonna have a high banrate until he gets reworked. His kit probably tilts more players than anyone else.

I mean, stats and decent players actually back up my opinion. I'm not wrong, dar has tons of counterplay and a meh winrate. What you fail to notice when saying dar takes ghost and deadman's is the opportunity cost of doing so. Deadmans is actually mediocre as far a tank items go from a defensive standpoint, and by taking it, dar is worse against dps. But taking ghost, dar can't have to or ignite. By suggesting nerfing dar, he'd go from approximately 49% winrate even lower. That is fair in what universe? Your prejudice is showing. How about I look up your main and advocate nerfs for completely arbitrary reasons? Like if Darius was actually broken I would concede, but he doesn't even have 50% winrate, which tells me a lot about how salty you are.

Also, Darius is very easy to outplay solo. Tryn, Yi, fiora, aatrox, and Jax can straight up face tank him and rek him post 6 (and Jax, fiora, and aatrox can almost do it from lvl1). Quin, teemo, vayne, Vik, and jayce top and rekt Darius with EASE. Other champs can survive until they become muchore useful later on, aka when, mao, malphite. Any mage that can run rylais and liandrys with void will destroy darius, aka brand, annivia, vel (even without those items), zyra and more. Heimer reks dar, any jgler gank can easily outplay dar with half a brain. (mumu, graves, Yi, rengo, vi, grag, etc). Heck, even Sion if he gets destroyed by Darius (which he can easily prevent by playing safe and getting ganks) because 10x more useful than dar in the mid/game. Plenty of adcs can kite, just look at Kai, vayne, iceborn Gauntlet ez, jhin, Tris, and more. Man, to be honest your comment here is straight up untruthful. A lie. A farce. You believe only what is convenient to you. My suggestion? Get better at the game and use your brain. As a dar main, I can honestly say he is as frustrating to play as to play against. Maybe even worse. The highs of getting an occasional Al triple or quad don't make up for the 1/8 games and the 8/1 games where I get pubstomped because I literally can't do anything post lane. You have no clue what it feels like to be shredded in 3 secs and completely unable to touch the enemy. No, his beefiness hardly matters because of the excessive of hp% damage, armor pen, and true damage in runes and items, along with mobility and cc creep.

Great argument, except the part you conveniently ignore, which is that dar can't stack auto or W bleed stacks during Jax e and that Jax can easily jump in on Darius q to prevent most of the damage as well as heal and bleed stack. Also Jax can stun with r and walk I side his q. Jax with Conquerors kills dar at any point of the game if he's half smart, but especially late game, where Darius has no recourse.

GayFluffyUnicorn1 votes

You must be high if you think darius is jax "worst nightmare". Jax worst nightmare is anything pokey from range like gp, kennen, gnar, jayce.

Jax/Darius lane can go either way. Very early heavily jax favored lvls 1-3 after that darius but it's basically a skill matchup that is still jax favored because sooner or later darius won't be able to deal with him.

Winrate alone doesn't allow for a claim to balance Kayn is oppressively strong, one of the best soloQ junglers out there, but oh whats this? he's not even 50% winrate according to op.gg, he's 49.96%. Oh, but that probably "doesn't count" because he has a high pick rate, so there's such a huge pool of bad players that it levels out, i assume?

as of this moment in time, the very same website cites darius as having 50.16% winrate, the exact same as aatrox (Albeit with 1% less playrate)

If you want to moan about only winrates, look at OP.gg, at "Highest winrate" in the toplane

Fucking hecarim and karthus have 53% winrates. Oh but may i assume "that doesn't count" because of low pickrate.

So if i'm reading the kind of argumentative and biased person, (otherwise correct my self debunking), you're likely the kind of person who think a champion needs to either have a high winrate, or a high play rate.

Darius, a champ with a higher winrate than Kayn, someone i play solely because he's oppressively strong, and the FOURTH HIGHEST TOPLANE PICKRATE, is a fair champion as things go. He also has the 4th highest ban rate, so people clearly dont like fighting him. perhaps because everyone thinks he's too strong?

If you want to mope that darius is a fair champ, and you demand that basic statistics back you up, you can no longer argue that any of these champions are OP because they have worse pick/win rates than your so-called "fair" champion.

Irelia Higher banrate (30%), sure, but lower pick and win rate. Jax Significantly lower play rate, roughly equal winrate. MUCH lower banrate (4.44%). Fiora S I G N I F I C A N T L Y lower pickrate, and a 47% winrate. 3.11% banrate. Teemo Tiny pickrate, 49.20% winrate. Camille yes. camille. a fucking balance nightmare everyone hates. equal winrate, 0.07% less pickrate. yes that's petty but since you choose to bring stats into this i will too Heimerdinger 1.54% pickrate, 48% winrate. That long rant whining about every other toplane being more OP than darius is starting to look a little thin, no? Tryndamere 1.16% pickrate, 48.91% winrate

So, by your own choice of "statistical proof that darius is fair", we've proven that he's actually stronger than every champ you listed as a counter-arguement that are "more op" or that you think beat him in every way. The only person with a higher win or ban rate is aatrox by a miniscule amount and urgot by a significant amount, but that's no surprise because they're flavor-of-the-month LCS picks. (viktor top too, but thats because he counters melees like nothing else. still a shite champ when played AP mid, mostly a gimmick pick.)

I can at least see that as a reasonable point to be made. Being someone who mains dar and still often has to fight one, I'd still rather lane against him than like irelia, Sion, teemo, or fiora any day. Oh and tryn, urgot and aatrox are also bs, so dar is hardly alone.

Fiora has a worse winrate and pickrate. Also, you counter fiora as darius, build a fucking bramble vest you nunce. Jax is worse, and you actually counter him by using Q when he uses his own E. this has been addressed. Tryn? Outdueling darius? you sure you're not playing... like... full movespeed ivern? Darius beats tryn. according to matchup.gg, he wins lane 44% of the time and wins game 47% of the time when facing an enemy darius. i've beat tryns as darius. just slow him and bleed him once out of his ult invincibility.

vayne is a lategame scaler. if you let her get 2-3 items without shredding her in the early game, thats rough buddy, but you could literally get 1 gank at any time in the first 15 mins and then she's irrelevant until 40m.

zed... top? since fucking when lmao. he's a mid. you dont fight zed top.

yi, once again, is a lategame 3-4 item champ. if you 1v1 a fed yi you will lose. you 5man him and he drops every time in less than a second you dont fucking 1v1 a fed yi. you don't chase a singed. these are fundamental rules of league

irelia has worse winrate and pickrate than darius, and also loses frequently against darius. Back to matchup.gg, she has a 40% lane winrate and a 49% game you have to bully her out early and don't let up. she's a lategame and you're an earlygame, if you let her scale she wins regardless. god dammit i shouldnt have to explain this to a so-called darius main. she's strong but you're stronger, in the short run.

fizz? fizz top? pretty sure he cant assassinate a juggernaut if you build one single MR item, dude.

trundle, udyr, graves... yeah they are okay at 1v1 (graves is dicey tbh he's not that strong offensively in my opinion, he just doesnt die at a reasonable rate for a marksman jungle.) but they're more likely to be ganking and 2v1ing you which is far different and more dangerous. diluted statistic.

Honestly i'm tired of rebuking every single one of your posts, as i am gradually made aware you're not a good darius onetrick, and that your 275 games were poorly spent as you have yet to learn jack shit about your own mains strengths, weaknesses, and opressive details.

trundle, udyr, graves... yeah they are okay at 1v1 (graves is dicey tbh he's not that strong offensively in my opinion, he just doesnt die at a reasonable rate for a marksman jungle.) but they're more likely to be ganking and 2v1ing you which is far different and more dangerous. diluted statistic.

Honestly i'm tired of rebuking every single one of your posts, as i am gradually made aware you're not a good darius onetrick, and that your 275 games were poorly spent as you have yet to learn jack shit about your own mains strengths, weaknesses, and opressive details.

My gosh you are a hater lmao. And you have yet to prove how Darius is OP. You've used nothing but personal feelings and anecdotal evidence. Again, the winrate says it all. And it is I that has become tired of rebuking your bs arguments. Just get out of here dude, the boards already have too few people with an ability to put reason before emotion.

Meanwhile you ignore the post i made talking solely about statistics. Seems fuckin legit man :ok_hand:

but sure whatever. someone can probably teach a monkey to build a complex machine, but i have yet to see the day someone proves a biased person wrong, even with evidence, and the biased party actually aknowledge they were incorrect in the first place. maybe someday

Mobility, durability, utility, damage. Those things are crammed more and more into kits to make "interesting" and "exciting" new champions. And nothing is sacrificed to gain an excess of one or 3 of these. Look at malphite. Look at renekton. Look at ashe. They have SOME of these as very strong in their kit, but other things they are weak at. They are exploitable, but good at what they are meant to be good at. Their power curves are more balanced... having a point where they are stronger than average, a point where they are average, and a point where they are weaker (not necessarily in that order). They require items to emphasize these strengths and/or make up for innate weaknesses. Ex: You want to be tanky on renekton? You need to BUILD tanky - no free 70% dmg reduction spammable spell or shield. You want to do damage? You need to BUILD damage. No insane overtuned base stats, no double your crit chance... just average or even below average bruiser level base stats without over-the-top scalings too. You stack armor on malphite because his kit makes extra good use of it? You still have to build mr or you are toast. And your basic abilities are largely mediocre at best - a tradeoff for having such a powerful ult.

This kind of balance and logic has been forgotten or ignored when designing new champs and items in favor of non-stop hype. You don't need everything about a champ to be obnoxiously op for them to be fun or good. Make things balanced. And look at the scaling on champs too... their power curve. You over-buff hyperscaling champs so they don't get seriously bullied in lane... then are you going to buff the early game champ so that they don't get seriously bullied by the hyperscaling champ in late game? There's a lack of logic as far as balance between the two going on for some while now. Fiora braindead wins late game duels vs other toplaners not named jax? Then she should equally braindead lose to early game champs in early game. Taric is hella op in teamfights, yet counters most aggression in lane... nearly matching leona in power even though leona falls way off after laning phase unlike taric? Why you nerf leona hard and leave taric untouched (earlier this year... not recent) when he was 2nd in lane for melee sup only to leona... before leona got nerfed?

There's a complete lack of simple logic and critical thinking by the design and balance teams. Those of us who have played the game for many seasons tend to see this and get frustrated. Because they are catering to younger people coming over from stuff like cod who want insta-kill and 15 min game or faster. Sacrificing skill and individual outplay (aside from the few champs they deem acceptable to have as op) in favor of a quick flashy boom. If I wanted to play cod... I'd play cod. If I wanted to play fortnight, I'd play fortnight. Change CAN be good, but forgive me for arguing to defend keeping the parts of league that made it unique and special to most veteran players when I argue against the way some aspects of league have been changing.

I personally like nerfs. Nami was recently nerfed. I love that lil fish. I had to learn how to adapt and play a little safer and it's been FUN. railing through a game because your champion is broken isn't fun, it's just exploitative.

I would rather say the main reason why champs being OP as they are is because of circumstance. Meaning that they are where they at is because everybody got nerfed to the ground to the point where they no longer feel good to play. When you look at seasons past and compare champions with their past versions, you can clearly see they are no where near as strong as they were before. Kassadin and Leblanc for example, their season 3 selves would absolutely destroy their current iterations.

The way the game is today is completely derived from nerfing everybody instead of buffing those who have been underperforming. Not saying there isnt any champs that needs a touch of nerf but more often than not the said nerfs almost always hit the wrong places. Gnar being a literal gatekeeper of top lane for many years? Nerf everything except the one that makes him unbearable which would be his %max HP proc.
