Riot! Show Ekko some love, goddamnit! He's been waiting for almost 3 years, now...

Ekko

Can you give Ekko some QoL changes to make his laning phase better?! Like increasing his auto attack range from 125 to 150 (like Diana and Kassadin ) or 175 (like Sylas,Yasuo and Fizz) would be much appreciated. I know most assassins have usually 125 AA range, but Ekko isn't really a fully fledged assassin (despite being classified as one, by Riot). Maybe when he gets 3 items and he's ahead? But even then one could easily argue! Because Ekko doesn't really excel at being an assassin or at being a mage fighter. He can do both decently enough but he excels at neither of them. He's something in between, like 50% assassin + 50% fighter/diver, not a pure assassin like Zed Talon Evelynn, etc.

One of the most frustrating things with Ekko is having to wait until we get 90+ AP, and having to be lvl 9 (rank 5 Q), to finally be able to one shot the backline minions safely and get farm consistently. Ekko has a very hard time against most meta mid champions, whether they're S or A tier, because of their ability to easily poke him down and/or sustain any damage he does. Most of the time, you'll never see an Ekko even in cs, or ahead in cs, the whole early game. Why? Because his early damage sucks (especially to minions) and he needs to fulfill specific requirements (90+ AP and lvl 9) to be able to farm in lane and stay relevant in the game.

==> A small buff to his Q's damage (especially Q1) would be very welcomed, so he can stay relevant in lane and have an easier time farming under those harsh circumstances when facing those poke/sustain heavy champions. You can even just give him some specific damage to minions, if you want to, since his damage to champions is already balanced and fair enough. Something like that, you get the idea!

To put things into perspective, Ekko wasn't buffed for almost 3 years now. The last significant buff he received was in patch 6.22, on November 10th, 2016:

Stats

  • Base mana regeneration increased to 7 from 6.

Z-Drive Resonance (P)

  • REMOVED: Slowing enemy champions.
  • Base damage changed to 30 − 140 (based on level) from 20 − 190 (based on level).

Timewinder (Q)

  • AP ratio increased to 30% AP from 20% AP.
  • NEW EFFECT: Radius increases by 50 as it hovers by the end of its travel distance, returning to normal while it travels back to Ekko.

Chronobreak (R)

  • Healing ratio changed to 60% AP from 20% (+ 6% per 100 AP) of health recently lost.
  • NEW EFFECT: Heal is increased by 3% for every 1% of his maximum health lost over the last 4 seconds.
  • NEW EFFECT: If Ekko's blink-back takes him through Parallel Convergence Parallel Convergence, he will trigger the effect.

(RIP passive, btw!)

Come on, Riot, even Ekko himself is getting sick and tired of waiting for new buffs:

" Come on! Show me something new! " " Things aren't gonna' improve themselves. "

Ekko is not weak by any means tbh. I think all champs should have at least 150 range, but there is no reason why Ekko should have more than standard melee. I agree with Q buff though. It would be nice if he could clear backline minnions at lvl 7 with one Q and 3 minnion-dematerializers stacked.

Yeah...

I'm not saying Ekko is weak, though. I'm just saying that his laning phase sucks ass and his early damage is a little bit on the weak side, compared to his fellow assassins and/or fighters.

He just needs a little bit of help, just a small push, to make his laning phase better and compete with the other mid laners!

I think the problem is that his W is overloaded as f*ck so riot cant give him proper dueling power. If they nerfed the shield to the ground but give him good early it would be so much more fun and healthy to play him and against him. Just my idea though.

Yeah, a lot of Ekko mains (me included) agree on the fact that his shield should be removed from his W and somehow put elsewhere in the kit with less AP scaling, so Riot can fix his sustain problems in lane.

Removing is a bit hardcore, i would say remove it scaling, make the deley 3 sec not 4 and make nerf Ult dmg. That would open possible buffs for Q E and Passive. I would say Q is mostly well balanced, +10~20 dmg would be enough. E could have Attackspeed (for dueling) Steroid and Passive could be buffed.

But he doesn't. You just don't know how to play his lane phase. That's an entirely separate issue.

So Shiphtur, Arcsecond, Maxske and Midbeast are all wrong when they, too, say that Ekko needs a buff, hein?! They must suck at playing Ekko then... Oh wait!

The Ecdysiast1 votes

Yep. Most assassins have weaker pre-6 on purpose, so they can't just get to their snowball even faster. If you're going for hard engages at that point, then you don't know how to play the champion. Or you're relying on the enemy being incompetent, which is a gamble.

Anyone who's asking for Ekko, who easily makes up for his weaker early once he hits 6, to get buffs doesn't understand how assassins' early games work.

Or they do understand, and they're just biased towards Ekko and want to see him made overpowered.

He obviously knows how to play lane phase as well as other players in his elo. Ekko IS weak earlygame, thats just fact. He is good champ but his strength comes from his ultimate and W.

The Ecdysiast1 votes

He has an assassin's early game. Which is weak on purpose. That does not mean he's in need of buffs. The fact he can so easily make up for it after early game is why he doesn't.

Have you ever played this game? Talon, Katarina, Fizz.. Which of those champions has weak early? None. The only issue they have is their lack of range. Ekko on the other hand has bad early damage-wise and he gets safety type of ultimate. Champ has overloaded things in kit that are unfun to play so riot cant buff the fun part. Stop with your bias please.

Ekko should never be buffed.

And why is that?

I don't think you understand the meaning of "quality-of-life change." Such changes aren't direct increases to a champion's power, but instead make them feel better to play. For example, today I saw a suggestion on Boards to allow Garen players to ping his passive and indicate to his team that he's regenerating health and will be ready for more action shortly. That doesn't make Garen stronger, it's just a more straightforward way for players to communicate about their abilities. A 40% increase in autoattack range isn't a QoL change, it's just a buff. Adding damage to a spell so a champion can waveclear more easily and quickly at an earlier level isn't a QoL change, it's just a buff.

The only buff I feel Ekko really needs is to have his passive CD removed/lowered at later levels (like with ult rank or just at levels 6/11/16 or so) and maybe even removed for jungle monsters. I don't think that would break him, especially since later in the game you're generally not going to be getting that many passive procs off on champions unless you go with some sort of attack speed build and even then it's not a guarantee. Even if they halved the current CD for jungle monsters, I'd be happy with that.

Other than that, I like him how he is.

If I could, I would just lower his attack delay on his basic attacks and primed E.

Nothing sucks more than winding up a basic attack for the passive proc only for the unit to die. The same goes for E, there's such a long wind up time it basically lowers primed E's effective range from 375 to 300.

Either that or apply Talon and Warwick's Q follow through mechanic on his E so even after a long channel he commits. After all, Ekko still has ulti to rely on to get out of tough situations.

They were recently working on that, i dont remember the details though, you may check the wiki.

I think they are more looking into changes to Ekko's kit as oppose to minor number tweaks.

Like maybe give his After Image the ability to create small magic damage aoes whenever it makes an auto attack, and maybe have a version of it's own Timewinder.

Or maybe combine his Timewinder with his Phase Dive, like he throws his thing with an aoe that attaches to the enemy champion at it's furthest point and Ekko's next auto against them blinks him to them, and giving him an E that involves manipulating his After Image.

I just stopped playing him after realising there is literally no point cucking urself playing an underwhelming champion that is albeit, pretty fun but useless or outclassed by a variety of champions. I tried to stick with him (racked up over 500k) but he's just not worth it. It sucks the life out of me because there are diminishing returns for almost everything you do in his kit & there is no real way to buff him without breaking him so I'll just see if they change his kit in any fashion in the future... Until then :p
