I have been playing Bewitching MF and Tristana over the weekend, and while doing so came to face a Poppy (who literally wrecked me). Essentially I underestimated the damage and speed that Tanks have, and paid for it with my life. So, I have learned not to allow myself to lower my guard. SO that brings the question: how do I beat down tanks? I managed to hurt a Malphite badly yesterday, but some tanks are too powerful (Poppy, Nunu and Willump).

Marksmen are vulnerable to tanks with decent damage and reliable CC. Poppy and Nunu are two examples of tanks who carry both, while also being hard to kill. If you can't keep your range or be safe enough (through, say, BoRK + Phantom Dancer + Lifesteal), you're going to die.
As a result, your strategies are twofold:
Remember, you're not really a duelist. You're a vulnerable sustained DPS threat. When the enemy CC is in your face, you can't do your job, and your natural vulnerabilities will hurt you.
In short, if you're dying to tanks as Marksmen, you're in the wrong spot and your misplay was not using your team and/or positioning better.

Yeah. ADCs lose most 1v1s. Even against classes they supposedly counter.
Unfortunately, he didn't have much of a team (Yasuo was AFK and he had an Akali support - the perils of that low ELO, I guess).

Everyone always underestimates the tank coming at you. Squishies forget what squishy really means half the time (though when they have sustain they can usually get away with it).

Quáx3 votesIt took you 20+ minutes to finish your first item which of all items was a fucking GA. Tanks do not have high dmg. But if ur against tanks often rush a last whisper.

A large part of it seems to be your build. You took 23 minutes to finish your first item, which was...a Guardian Angel. That's not generally an item you ever want to rush, because it simply has terrible stats. You only ever really want it for its passive, and maybe the armor. You were against Poppy and....Heimer, it looks like? Heimer has a lot of magic damage, and Poppy isn't really high damage at all, and neither really have large enough cooldowns to make GA's passive worth it, either.
Generally you want to finish a single item first, and only really go into one additional component you really need (such as buying a Zeal before you complete Infinity Edge, or a BF sword before completing a Zeal item). Completing boots first is also generally a bad idea, although picking up t1 boots early on is usually smart.
Looks like you had an...Akali support? I think? Jesus christ these picks...anyway, you had very little actual support from your support, since Akali has very little in the way of defense for allies and has nothing against Poppy. So you were honestly fucked from select.
Generally, if you need to handle tanks, you want to get 
. You don't want to rush it, and you don't need it if the tank is useless, but it's generally a good item against tanks as an ADC. Crit is usually a strong build on most ADCs, if you don't know what else to buy. Generally you want to go Infinity Edge into Runaan's on Tristana, You could have gotten a chain vest early on to handle some of Poppy's damage and gone into defense after that.

I was able to kill Heim a few times or at least got assists. Also, I took long for my item because we had an afk and Poppy kept keeping us from farming.

I think you just had such bad positioning that she just couldn't resist.
As for beating tanks? My experience as a tank is kiting, with lifesteal 
with armorbusters 
typically works.
