Project Bias

I wouldnt consider this years Project a failure. it would be unfair to rate champs i dont like as a failure. However Jinx and Akali (i like new akali)'s skins are just not as good as the rest. and even the legendary this year isnt as good as Warwick. Although tbh i adore the Warwick of modern era (vgu) thus I consider him one of the best champs design wise. But still some advice: for future skins for major skinlines, make sure the theme stays solid as this year's has been shaky. Warwick, Irelia and Pyke look like project. Akali had an awful color scheme and doesnt fit. Jinx is just..... anyways Im saying be more tactful and provide a steady flow of high quality events and skins (and bring back moving splash arts for the login screens) as you do most of the time. Look at Dark Cosmic Jhin. It was so good I was forced to start playing a new champion JUST for a skin. Every skin you release should wow us. Even non ult/legendary skins. I can name a large amount of Epic and below skins that wow me. The other thing: do not give skins to very outdated champs with awful design/animations as it highly decreases the skin's success. I am looking at you Udyr. That should have been Janna, or Ryze or someone with nicer design. I am rooting for you RIot. Art and story are the heart of this game. So I encourage your efforts, applaud your success and hope to see improvements. That said I know you are human and sometimes its trial by error. So I know that you will succeed. I hope others see it this way and are able to patient.

Jinx's waist makes me uncomfortable, but I don't know why. It also makes her look a shit ton like a thinner Vi.

The worst part about Udyr getting a skin is that it basically confirms he doesn't have a rework being checked out. Dude has a 3250 RP cost for his base skin and his actual base skin looks like a PS1 character who shoots Doritos from his hands and has the worst animations ever. With Volibear and Fiddlesticks confirmed to be getting worked on, Udyr has shot up pretty high on the list of characters who need a rework even if it is only Ezreal level.

It really bugs me that this is the case because the champs chosen do fir in well with the sub-theme that they were going for this year.

What fails, though, is some of the execution in design. Akali and Jinx just don't fit and, at least for me, don't really feel like Project at all to me. Jinx just feels like leftover Odyssey or more like a vigilante from her design. It's also a shame that there was prior fan art of Jinx in Project that felt more akin to it, with ideas like a full mask with painted on faces, or even the hoodie idea and making her full robo-suited/bodied.

Akali just doesn't feel that much different. Her helmet, her color scheme, just overall her design feels more like Praetorian to me or an odd form of Program. She never really felt like she was in the same universe, more like she was in a purgatory between these themes.

Warwick I've gotten use to, Pyke is decent, and Irelia is good, but Akali and Jinx just kind of kill everything for me.

I actually quite like the Pyke but the Akali/jinx/irelia don't really seem very projects

And Warwick still looks like a Praetorian

Who would bother with new Udyr Skins, when the only way to really enjoy him is paying for his VGU?

Summoner SpeII8/6/2019, 1:18:38 AM3 votes

don't insult the skin department, or you will be the second i will dominate. He talked shit about their original garbage design of spirit guard udyr and he got booted.

I just hope the quality goes up for the return of star guardian and the return of another music related skin-line

Really shouldnt compare anything to jhin. Jhins character, design, and animations are all so amazingly well thought out and crafted that any budget they toss at him will just come out amazing by design. It is very, very hard to put the same time and money into any other champion for the same result. His thematic is just that good on its own, and theres so much you can do with his personality.

The other thing: do not give skins to very outdated champs with awful design/animations as it highly decreases the skin's success. I am looking at you Udyr.

But players have been wanting skins for these champions since forever so Riot has to please that every now and then before a VGU if they can. His last skin was a 975 in 2015 and came out great imo, the thing that's honestly bad with the new one is because they gave him claws. Those claw points look so bad in the motions that his Tiger and Phoenix stances specifically have.

What did you say about Udyr >:(((

I just hope the Star Guardian event doesn’t get ruined with awful skins this year too, like I’ve loved every single one that’s came out this far but if they go and try to throw in off champs for SGs, Like Singed or Trundle, I’m gonna be so upset. 😒

I’d like to see more older champs who haven’t got skins in a while to be added, say like Rumble and Zilean, though. They’d be ok! Yordles arent anything new to the SG universe and Zilean needs some god damn attention for once too (even if I don’t play him). He’s got 1 skin that offers visual effects.

I don't think Jinx, Irelia, or Akali really feel like Project Skins at all. Overall, these three don't feel like they belong in the PROJECT line. They feel far too organic instead of the mechanized and cyberized feel every other skin has.

Jinx's helmet fits the motiff to a T, but lacks a lot of armor and looks far too human. The lack of armor would have been fine if her skin was something like a dead grey or had circuit patterns and other sorts of bits and connecty bobs to make it look she tore her bulkier cyberization away. Maybe some spray paint like she had on her guns. Granted, her in-game model looks like it does a better job at the PROJECT feel than her splash art.

Irelia's base project skin looks more like a Super Galaxy skin. The helmet doesn't fit at all, with the whole transparent visor, and she looks far too human as a result. Hell, it looks like she's wearing some kind of skin-tight suit rather than actually being heavily cyberized/mechanized. Her Chroma fits the PROJECT vibe far better with the colors and mechanical construction, but it's also lacking any sort of helmet which then doubles back to "this doesn't look like a PROJECT skin." because of it.

Akali? Basically the exact same boat as Irelia. A girl in a catsuit with a bit of armor slapped on. There's nothing robotic or mechanical about it.

All in all, I think Irelia and Akali have got the shortest end of the stick, and it they look more like something that should be titled PROJECT: COSPLAY rather than RECKONING.
