if you dont want infinite stack power....

as said in the most recent patch notes : "Let's start with the current Devourer and its infinite stacking. Initially, our assumption was that y'all were really invested in the concept of infinite stacking (and infinite power!!!), but as we've tried to iterate around this ‘must have' mechanic, we've come to realize it just doesn't jive well in a PvP game. Either you're stuck in that Always Be Farming mentality, or you're so far behind the enemy jungler that you regret many of the decisions that brought you there in the first place. Nobody likes lagging behind in the stack marathon."

then why do we still have:

Nasus Q Veigar Q Thresh Souls Bard Chimes and Sion W

this isnt a "QQ my devourer" post, this is a legit question on why they are removing how it currently is, with "no infinite power or stacking!" as a reason for doing so, meanwhile they have five champions which have infinite stacking/power built in.

Can we get some clarification from riot on what makes the abilities/passives on those five champions any different from the current devourer item?

because "Either you're stuck in that Always Be Farming mentality, or you're so far behind the enemy jungler that you regret many of the decisions that brought you there in the first place. Nobody likes lagging behind in the stack marathon." can apply to all of those minus the jungler part. especially on susan...

Because those are built into champion kits and therefore champs can be balanced around it.

It's the same issue with spellvamp.

Favouritism, double standards, or it can just be you know, laziness.

It's pretty simple really.

who knows maybe this will get a RED post, either way I have the riot k9 nasus skin and I always call it Rito kdoge 9 why that is relevant? Ill have no idea

well, if you can BUY an item on a champ that doesnt have late game (see shaco), it gives him kinda of a weird power curve. where he can destroy you early game, then come back late game with a shit ton of stacks, and just continue to scale into late game with sooooo much AA damage. But if the scaling is built into the kit, its a little easier to stop. or at least manage. i like the new devourer. makes yi's late game a little less frightening? maybe

problem: you used shaco as an example, never use shaco as an example

I'm not a big jungler but my problem with Devourer was that it felt like I needed to keep farming to make the item relevant, but each camp added a measly one damage to my auto attacks, so the time I invested in farming felt like it could have been spent better elsewhere.

Personally I'm happy that they limited the stacks on the new enchantment. Now there is a clear amount of stacks to shoot for, and you get rewarded nicely for reaching it.

To be honest I've never really had that constant farming stack xyz mentality on Thresh and Sion, nor technically on Veigar as you have other methods of getting stacks.

When it comes to Nasus though, I've literally had games where I ignored enemy harass and just farmed the minion wave that I froze. "You're harassing me? Great I have 5 pots, a flask, and frozen heart, keep going pal." In all seriousness though, as Nasus you pretty much feel punished for leaving your lane ever. Why would I fight a champion for the possibility of 6 stacks when I could last hit the cannon minion, or take a jungle camp for the same amount and virtually zero effort, not to mention the other minions hanging out that are half that value. If you made champions worth 10 stacks I might actually have the incentive to go elsewhere, but for the equivalent of a cannon minion? Not that interesting.

My guess is that the problem occurs should both teams have devourer. The person that is behind on his stacks probably isn't able to catch up because the person that is ahead can gather stacks faster. They are also junglers so they don't come out of it leading to low interaction. With champions there is no identical mirror matchup (in ranked) and are mostly laners.

Infinite linear scaling is very fine to deal with. And it's actually not scary lategame. Because it will proportionally to the current power stack slower and slower +3 to Q when you have 150 damage on Q is nice +3 to Q when you have 700 damage on Q is borderline negligible.

Also most scalings are calculated to be ok midgame, so it actually falls off lategame as a damage source. Now that's hard to understand because it scales infinitely but for instance proportionally to the tankiness of a carry, a well-farmed 20 min Nasus against an average adc will do 50% of his health with one Q, while in lategame when the ADC is lvl 18, has a bunch more base health and armor, it actually deals less. One reason of this is partially the fact that you don't have really the freedom to farm anymore after laning phase, so your stacks won't grow that much too.

Sion's health scaling is really not very scary, with all the ridiculous amount of %health damage available in game.

On the other hand, Thresh's armor+magic on-hit (boostable with devourer/wit's end/attack speed and mpen) scaling is pretty scary, but it takes too much time to ramp up. A theoretical late game scenario where he would be a monster would require at least 1h30-2h and that's too much, the game is already finished.

TLDR : Infinite scaling has never really been a problem. As long as it's not exponential (damage goes up x% every time you kill a creep or sthg), it's hardly broken.

but riot stated that they dont like infinite stacking (I dont mind it)

so they got rid of an item for it yet you have susan Q gain 3 dmg every creep killed or 6 every big guy killed
