Let's Talk About Melee Top Laners

I'm specifically thinking about those without crazy gap closers. Now maybe its just nostalgia but I never remember it being such a bitch to get on top of a mage or assassin or adc as a melee top laner before.

It seems to me like Mid Lane, Jungle and Bot Lane champions are getting more and more mobile and as a result, traditional top lane bruisers and juggernauts are having a much harder time getting on top of those champions and its kind of invalidating an admittedly niche market of Top Laners.

Also, in general, I don't know if its what I've already mentioned or item changes or what it is, but they just feel weak to me. But this is entirely my opinion and I may be completely wrong and feel free to call me an idiot.

Let me know what you guys think.

mobility isn't what makes these champs suffer, it's the cc overload that makes it completely impossible to compete in a teamfight

because these days you can: flank, use item 3800 , make a pick in a brush without enemy vision in it, or just flash in.

tbh, I do play melee mobile characters to (like akali or kayn) but you can still gap close with others. Right now Cho is one of the most popular champions in lcs (eu, na, kr) has very close to 40% pick rate in the semifinals in eu and na and in kr (including final here). And he is a melee with no mobility.

That being said, yes. Its more difficult to play those these days.

I'm a plat top/jg main and every time I pick a melee top laner, it never fails that the enemy picks a range champ like lucian, vayne, or teemo.
