Rek'Sai Tunnel Idea

I looked over the Red Post on Surrender@20 and saw that you guys think that Rek'sai tunnels are more of a burden for the overall game than fun.

"Quote: Can you expand on what you mean by "burden on other players to participate"? Is draven's ax-catching game somehow detrimental to other players? Perhaps some more examples? Mechanics like Rek'sai tunnel or Skarner spires put a lot of burden on the other players in the game because they are constantly having to destroy or capture them. We think this was adding more frustration than fun and it's not a scalable design method."

They are cool, but too time investing. So, something I thought of is "What if we could actually ENTER her tunnels". As in, she has complete control of the tunnels and has advantages inside them, but others can go into them.

What do I mean by this? I mean creating actual gameplay space that you can walk around in under ground. I know this would take a lot of time and Im not even sure if it is possible, but this would REALLY bump up Rek'sai's niche as "Map Burrower" and give her that monster feel when you are in her catacombs of tunnels and suddenly hear that SCREAM! For those still confused on what I mean, imagine you are walking through the jungle and you suddenly see a Rek'sai tunnel. You think to yourself, "Hey, if Rek'sai can use this tunnel to go from her jungle to ours, maybe I can get to her jungle from here as well!" So, you go into the tunnel and you enter a section of gameplay that isn't even ON the map. Sort of like in a game like Diablo III where you see a dungeon popping out of the ground and you click to enter it and then you get sent into some underground cave! Then you can go through it. The difference is Rek'sai's tunnel has two entrances so, while she can create them at her will, use them to traverse the map, and probably be able to move more quickly through them, allied players AND enemy players can also enter them to move through her tunnels and go underground into an entirely separate part of the map! This makes it to where not only does Rek'sai add to her team something NO other champion does, it also makes it to where she adds a fun (and sometimes terrifying which thematic) experience for both teams to enjoy as they move through the underground to wind up on parts of the map without being spotted as well as ignoring impassable terrain (a straight line to a point is a lot quicker than a zig zag line to a point).

Thoughts and ideas? While I know this would be INCREDIBLY difficult to implement, I feel like it would both really allow Riot to show off what they can make for the players AND make Rek'sai a champion to play other than what some call her now, a Knock-Up Bot.

This would add another dimension to LoL. Honestly, I love playing Reksai I wouldn't call her a "Knock-Up" bot. Her Q is absolutely amazing because it procs so many items so fucking fast. Either way, I think that while you're idea is unique. It makes it harder for the game to go on and it would cause more trouble than worth imo.

Yes, but I don't think Rek'sai is currently the champion that Riot wants her to be. She has this really unique identity that could be so much better rather than just her current Hyper Mobile Jungler. Basically, I don't feel like she is giving her thematic identity all it could be where as someone like say Bard/Heimerdinger/Orianna/etc. are all making what their thematic identity in the game are extremely clear and pushing those identities to the extremes by adding very unique mechanics to the game.

I would note that this wouldn't really change any part of her kit besides her Burrowed W and possibly R (although her current R with these new tunnels would be cool to allow her to sandwich enemies in her tunnels by her going in on one side and her team on the other). Also, if you don't mind, I would like to know what kind of trouble and such this would add and how it would the game harder to go on (although I thought I have heard people actually want games to last a tiny bit longer as of late).

Do you have any idea how taxing it is to create a whole other level or cave system in an already pre-made game? Think about it like this;

If Reksai creates a tunnel in top lane bushes connecting them.

They are connected. Those two tunnels are connected. If you were to connect every tunnel in the game together to create a hub network. Every time you went into the tunnel you'd need to load the data. It can't be pre-made data since every tunnel area is different and they all have different outcomes and relative locations. I'm looking at it from a development stand point. It would make the games longer but there's no need to add a second layer to the rift itself.

Reksai is already unique, she has insane early map pressure and has amazing jungle invades.
