question about hextech chests

if I'm mastery rank 5 on a champ already am i just SoL when it comes to that champ?

I've read something about getting a bonus when you get to rank 5

I read somewhere that you get a chest for each Champion you already have Level 5 in o .o Don't quote me though, I'll go look it up again

From the Q & A:

"zurkon672 (EUW) - Once this goes live, will players receive awards for mastery ranks they have already achieved?"

"Rayven (NA) - No, but the chests are seasonal. Play Vi this season, get an S (or someone in your premade gets an S), and get a chest as long as you're under the chest cap. Then you're tapped out on Vi for the season."

The short of it is that you can still earn chests as rewards for S ranked performances, once per champion per season and up to 4 per month total.

I don't think I've actually seen anything about any special rewards for getting rank 5 on a champ with that system, but rather that those who are already rank 5 are probably going to have an easier time getting S ranks.

Rank 5 has nothing to do with chests. You get a chest for having an S grade at the completion of a game (or someone on your team getting an S grade) S grades contribute more xp towards mastery rank, but having rank 5 doesn't affect anything related to your grade or your chests.
