Unfortunately we have a ton of self-absorbed kiddies in this game with attention deficit and they have to go straight to their phones after the match and dont have time to consider the helpful actions of others.
Then there is the asshat trolls that honor feeders, and people who died the most...
It takes so much to get one, Iv never got one. Iv played a little more than a year and I have 60 friendly, 41 helpful, 212 teamwork, and 152 honorable opponent. I dont know how much it takes to get one, but obviously more honor than Iv ever gotten. So with fruit so high up in a tree almost no one can see it, no wonder people dont give a damn about the honor system.
Maybe if you had a ribbon you could earn 10 RP along with your win of the day, people would try to earn adulation form their team mates. Maybe people would stop abusing it by honoring trolls, cause then you can point out if you reward trolls, we will have more, and then they will be making YOU lose YOUR matchs... dont honor them.
The honor system has the potential for carrot/stick kinds of behavior reinforcement, but its not even used much because it basically dose nothing that people can see or care about.
A lot of people got honor the first time around from either directly asking/begging for it, or the people that play normals with friends a lot and just all honor each other (that still works, and tends to be a lot of the reason people have the ribbons even if they won't admit it).
If you play solo you are less likely to get them, and if you play ranked, you will most likely never see honorable opponent from all the salt. The honor system was supposed to show off ribbons for good players so you could see who were "positive" but I see just as many toxic players who just have honor spam from their buddies.
