At least old nid didnt have almost infinite range cc that also made them take true damage.

Hammer and Shell17 votes

The true damage portion is there so MR doesn't double dip on the damage bonus.

What do you mean by double dip? Many mages are countered by MR, so why is Zoe an exception by having true damage???

SteelMankind28 votes

So the way Zoe W wakeup damage works is it matches the damage of the spell/auto that woke the target, but as true damage and up to a cap (the W's base + AP portion).

If Zoe wakes up the target with a 1000 damage Q and the target has 100 MR after Zoe's magic pen is considered, they will take 500 magic damage from the Q hitting, and 500 true damage from the wakeup.

If the wakeup damage wasn't true, they would take 250 extra damage in that case, which wouldnt be double the wakeup spells damage.

Its the same reason why knights vow redirects damage taken as true damage. Riot decided that resists counting twice, or "double dipping", would be unfair.

Just be thankful they thought otherwise for Zed ult and Shadow Assassin Kayn passive.

JJI7443 votes

Last I heard, Zed ult does a % of pre-mitigation damage dealt. IE: armor only counts once. Wiki says the same. (Look under Ability details)

Auz the Ripper3 votes

The stored damage of Death Mark is calculated from raw damage before resists are applied, so the damage reduction from armor is still only applied once to it.

Zerenza1 votes

It wasn't true for Kayn, i don't know if they fixed it but he used to be total crap because the damage was being reduced twice for Shadow Assassin kayn cause of his Passive. So when he'd go in on you, his passive would proc and all of his damage would be reduced first by armor then by magic resist(his initial hit of his Q, R or W+the passive bonus magic damage) so it made him really dificult to play as an assassin.

Auz the Ripper2 votes

It still isn't true for kayn. They did, and continue to do, that on purpose to force blue kayn to build penetration so he couldn't do the "tank assassin" thing and to limit his ability to murder tanks. The real problem at release was that his passive didn't apply to duskblade procs, the only item that makes AD assassinations possible.

Kurieko5 votes

Last time i checked you dont NEED to have a broken as fuck CC that doubles damage

Weiss Guertena6 votes

At least Zoe doesn't have spammable escape, self-heal, 1500 range without R, hitbox the size of a turret and invisible projectiles for 80% of time. And that's why you list weaknesses additional to strenghts when trying to sell something as busted.

Zoe

she literally has to jump into your face to get the full damage bonus.

here's how to beat zoe

crush her in lane because her laning is hot garbage

force 5v5s against her because her 5v5 teamfighting is hot garbage if you have any semblance of a good comp

if she shoots behind her back off, if she uses her ult to extend her range to you (because it's return range is still not very far in front of Zoe's position) cc her and blow her up.

her kit is basically designed to punish bad strategic play. if you're chasing people into the jungle, splitpushing without vision or trying to get random picks without vision, then a good zoe (and there are very few of those) will demolish you. if she's using multiple mobility summoners in a single fight you probably fucked up to begin with.

AP nid wasn't cancerous because of her poke. AP nid was cancerous because she could heal off any return poke AND had a good escape in cougar AND could all in you

Well, besides the period of time where you could abuse the projectile coding to launch invisible spears from FoW.

Yeah, imagine if she had some low cost, short CD skill that lets her Kassadin ult in and then out after a short delay that was just enough time to safely get her max range off.

Oh wait...

Avios14 votes

She runs out of mana extremely quickly, even with Morrellonomicon + sheen, not to mention its easy to aim stuff at where she'll pop back with her ult.

MuffledGarbage6 votes

I played against a Zoe as Viktor and she took less mana then me to waveclear. Even when I was only using Autos, and upgraded E.

If a Zoe only uses Q for waveclear, she isn't running out of mana anytime soon.

I said where she ends up after 1 second. You are supposed to abuse the fact she must return to specific location within specific time to hard-CC her at that original location.

If I could hit her BEFORE she ulted (in that same spot) why wouldn't I have?

I still don't understand why they thought putting summoner spells on a basic ability in any form was a good idea.

Because it has some severe constraints on what spell she has when, and she's lacking a normal / reliable spell due to it?

Of all the things i've seen about Zoe, this is the first time I see THIS labeled as a problem XD

The Space Cowboy4 votes

I like the ability but they need to make it only drop silly stuff for a few minutes. I feel guilty when I get redemption before first back.

Velzard of Koz3 votes

I once saw someone (I think imaqtpie) play her top against Kennen and get Teleport from minions twice in row, allowing himself two basically free backs for shopping. :D I am concered about this factor, that the RNG decides whether you are obnoxious with it or not.

Weiss Guertena18 votes

Oh boy, where do we start here?

1.) Reliability Nidalee's Q had hitbox 5 times the projectile size; she could whiff you completely and still literally one-shot you if you were a squishy.

2.) Range Nidalee's Q has 1500. Zoe has 800, or 1375 with ult (in which case impact delay is also increased).

3.) Safety If you catch Zoe in the midst of Q spam, she's dead. If you caught old Nidalee, too bad - huge heal and 3 second CD dash made sure you aren't killing her without a shitload of CC.

4.) "One-shot" potential Nidalee's Q was able to literally one-shot a squishy with Luden's proc (which was also way stronger back then). Zoe isn't killing anyone with just Q; if she bursts you down then I guarantee that she also hit a bubble beforehand and got off a passive + Lichbane proc.

5.) Clarity Zoe's Q missile might be hard to see in chaotic teamfights. Nidalee's spears were fucking invisible 80% of time, a bug Riot didn't bother with fixing until her rework. Because losing 90%+ of your HP from mid air was perfectly balanced and fun to play against.

6.) Window of opportunity All old Nidalee had to do was chuck a spear from fog over the wall - or hell, just out of vision range since Q range was long enough. Zoe has to telegraph her intent by throwing Q behind her, and if she portals in your face you know there's a delayed Q incoming so you have ample time to dodge unless bubbled first. Bubble also has a delay before sleep, meaning that if you hav mobility you can use it to get out of Q range or have a tank block for you. You can also punish her by sending a CC to her return destination if she uses R in plain sight.

She might be killing people fast (A burst mage killing a squishy with their entire rotation? Weird, I know - ADC are the only class that should be allowed to two-shot you from safe range), but she's nowhere near brainless cancer old AP Nid was. And I dare you to prove me wrong. Old Nid was such a braindead cancer with zero-risk insane-reward playstyle that blind spear-chucking was a viable tactics even in LCS, with other spells used only to escape. So, go in a game. Pick Zoe. Only spam your QR entire game while using bubble and W just to defend yourself. Then post a replay in which you win a game like that without getting carried and I'll gladly eat my words.

Because I can do that too? Remember when Evelynn used to stun and 100-0 you befoe it wears offfrom permastealth with zero counterplay, and walk away with full HP due to her ultimate? Twitch Of course, I'll absolutely ignore the fact that old Eve could open with a 2 second point and click stun which also applied a Lichbane proc since it doesn't fit my agenda - both characters kill you fast from stealth, so it's enough to make a 1:1 comparison.

Kurieko3 votes

You realize nid spear and Zoe q are almost identical in damage right? Except now there are even less resistances. If nid spear can one shot, so can zoe.

Range is negligable, makes up for the fact that its AOE and can be retargeted around obstacles to get through.

A bug with nidalee spear is not a valid point saying how it was stronger. Its a bug.

Zoe Q has almost half the cooldown, just as spammable.

The hitbox is smaller but she also has a hard CC on her kit that makes her Q hit even harder. Dont see how this even matters.

Nidalee spear is just as good if not worse than Zoe Q. Stop pretending like new releases are balanced.

Weiss Guertena4 votes

Zoe's Q still deals less damage than old Nidalee, being a 160 + 66% AP + More Sparkles bonus (caps at 140 + 25% AP) and a 150% distance bonus, with Nida boasting an impressive 230 + 65% AP with 250% distance bonus - Nida scaled 19% worse, but had a better midgame due to Q completely scaling with ability rather than champion level and, more importantly, having a 100% better distance bonus - more than making up.

Up to 700 range is negligible? Are we even playing the same game? That's far and beyond any ADC's range.

Even if it wasn't bugged so it was invisible, Nida's spear had a very deceptive hitbox; it could completely "miss" you and still destroy your HP; if Zoe's Q misses then it misses, it doesn't magically snap onto you.

And while Zoe's Q might still be spammable, that doesn't change the fact how big an effective range difference is. A skillshot from 800 units away, with visible preparation, is far easier to dodge than a 1500 range one which can be cast from fog much easier and doesn't require telegraphing. Of course, she can use her ultimate - but it's not really spammable until late game, and well - there's something I call the "Ryze Syndrome"; having a non-combat ultimate (as in, no damage or CC potential) on a damage-dealing class requires her other sources of damage to be higher in order to do their job properly.

It matters in a way her CC can be played around with proper vision and positioning. Its range is nothing special unless cast over walls, in which case play like you would against Fiddlesticks; ward around walls she might use and adjust your positioning so you can dodge. And E constitutes for a lion's share of her damage with its second proc and guaranteeing AA + passive + LB proc, allowing her to delete someone in one combo. SIngle Q won't do the job unless she is insanely fed.

I'm not pretending she's balanced. Hell, I'm sure she'll get nerfed for sure once people figure her out - saying as someone who played her for a decent time (see Azir example). I'm just saying that comparison with old Nidalee is as stupid as it can get, as neither Zoe or anything else can get near that level of bullshit.

Also, by playing her - and with lots of mirror matches - I've came to learn how she works. When playing against Zoe, I get hit by her Q zero times in lane, and never later unless CC'd first. So another piece of advice; try her out once she gets on a free rotation. Try and perform your combos, see how people dodge and apply your newfound knowledge. She's rather unique so I'd say you have to try her out yourself to get a hang of her.

oh you having trouble with Zoe ? "Git good"... wait... you can't "git good"? then get Braum on your team. Can't do that? get item 3156 and item 3053 . Can't do that either? Get item 3140. Unlike most champions her combo is hard and you can counter it. Fking hell even minions can block her combo. Just get a Malzahar vs her and press R.

Malz ulti doesnt stop her ulti though.. she will still jump back and out of range.. her damage and CDs are a problem. 7 sec ulti or something like that?? q is at 4 secs? and her sleep if she misses it stays in trap form far too long.. it stays out for about 5 secs..

The main problem with Zoe's W is that using it to it's max potential requires her to already be winning (because she's getting you to blow summoners and item actives).

Her entire kit has a lot of outplay potential but she has a high skill floor and really only thrives in certain situations. In fact I'd go so far to say I'm not sure she's even pickable in competitive.

the fact that zoe's q is also an AOE.. Nids q hit box was massive as well.. but zoes burst with a full range q with passive and a lich bane attack nukes almost anyone that is short on high hp and MR..

Remember when ignorant morons on the forums compared Nid Spears to Zoe when the abilities are nothing alike? Ya me too.

Javelin Toss TARGET RANGE: 1500

Paddle Star TARGET RANGE: 800

Zoe has to be MUCH closer to deal her damage, its also considerably more telegraphed. You see her cast her Q backwards guess what? Shes trying to poke you. "DURRR but she can just use ult" Ya and you can still attack her for 1 second. She also has no escape to speak of. By the time sleep actually CC's your target mid game you're probably already dead or close to it.

Lets not ignore the other MASSIVE DIFFERENCES, Nid's ability to heal and escape with dashes on her cat form/ bonus move speed in bushes. Zoe literally has no means of escape to speak of. The two are literally nothing alike save for the high damage on a poke spell. But when you lack the basic intelligence/critical thinking ability to see that i guess they must be exactly the same.

Fargo796 votes

I love the fact that they let Zoes sleep even work on targets that have Morg's shield on them.. cause sleep isnt CC i guess...

RavenMagus6 votes

My only trouble with Zoe is that if you get hit by a sleep bubble, you are pretty much 100% guaranteed dead no matter what.

I'd like to see some mechanic similar to Xerath's stun so the sleep isn't as ridiculous if you get point blanked by it. She otherwise seems rather fair; I can't really complain too much about her since I've only played against her and not as her yet.

4th3t0s5 votes

She has exactly ONE damage spell in her entire kit excluding her passive, no sustain, only mobility aside from the RNG from her w is a fake-out used mostly for extending the range on her q & e; nope, nowhere close to old AP Nidalee

Edit: Also, first week of her release in the middle of preseason, calm your tits Edit 2: Whoops, her e does damage as well, hadn't played her yet, honest mistake

DeadUnborn5 votes

She isn't safe though, her R exposes her to damage. I do agree her numbers need some tuning. Also her E is to reliable to use

Kloqdq4 votes

Problem is Nid could through those from Fog of war and it would be basically invisible for the first bit of the cast. So you had less time to react.

Zoe just seems pretty overrated to me. Seems like a better/healthier version of LeBlanc is all.

Fedoran3 votes

Except that Zoe’s Q range is no longer than Ori ball. She has to use R to get extra range, in which case you just pound her with zed ult or something
