What is mages suppose to do with tanks/brusiers?

Whether it's pro play or just my own solo ranked game experiences, it seems like there is nothing mages can do to tanks other than relying on teammates to peel.

ad champions with item 3071 item 3036 item 3153 actually shreds tanks very well. Meanwhile item 3135is an ionic item(only effective when target has large amount of MR, and when target has large amount of mr even it's only 65% it's still a lot) item 3151 only works well with poke mages and only properly perform when combined with item 3116 .

What am I gonna do to a 5k HP tank running into my face while my full burst combo does like only 2.5k dmg... Especially with item 3742 item 3111 item 3512 tanks are kinda unkitable.

Depends on the mage.

Generally, you want to combine item 3135 and/or item 3151 for consistent damage and magic penetration. This is especially true on champion with DoTs and innate slows/CC, since they increase the effectiveness of Liandry's Torments.

In addition, champions with low cooldowns and/or consistent damage are generally better at killing tanks than burst mages.

If you want a few examples for mages who are good picks against tanks, I would recommend: Velkoz Brand Malzahar Swain Vladimir Karthus Orianna Viktor

I actually main Velkoz , and with his kit designed to melt tanks, I actually struggle a lot against tanks with him. Simply because his ult roots himself making tanks allow to poop in his face. I literally had tanks running from the end of my ult through all the distance and crash into my face with still 60% hp... it is kinda sad.... I feel like Brand just do so much more dmg with less effort.

of course if my team would peel it might be different, but without that factor, it's kinda hard to 1v1 a tank as mage while as fighter or adc it's very easy.

the tanks that are the most annoying are the extremely mobile ones. like Udyr aka balance cancer.

I think Vel'koz is good against them due to his passive, his low cooldowns, and his ability to kite the enemy.

Liandry's Torment and Void Staff combined with his good base damages will let you gradually wear through a tank while kiting back-wards, chipping away at them until they finally succumb.

His ultimate is useful but rooting yourself does remove your ability to kite them.

but without item 3116 , only using q and e as cc, continuous kiting really isn't quite gonna work. (especially with all the speedUdyr Ekko Rammus )

Lol item 3135 is great. It does magic pen on all magic resist that they have - not just the bonus mr. Unlike last whisper which only removes some bonus armor. Void staff is like the old last whisper. Also, Azir is great against tanks since he is basically the ap version of an adc carry (long range, fast auto attacks), and can chunk through them quickly.

Azir is just broken don't even consider him a mage

? How is he not a mage? Also, how is he broken?

nearly 100% pick ban in LCS, Azir is the jack of all trades, long range poke burst dmg engage disengage mobility everything is in his kit.

A lot of mages also have so.e form of utility. You won't be bursting down a tank but you can still apply your cc effects while adding damage to the pile.
