The new Doran's Shield will be used even less than the current one.

  • The flat regen was better than most champions' base regen with the new D-shield.

  • The new bonus regen is inferior to the damage mitigation passive, even over long windows. It takes ~4 seconds to even equal the old one. More if you consider that the old base regen was better than the new 100%.

  • 5 bonus damage to minions helps pretty much nobody. It won't help you last hit under turret if you don't have an AoE ability to take that extra little bit off of the wave before the tower hits->last hit.

#The largest buff that you're giving D-Shield is an extra potion at level 1. The rest is worse than the already garbage D-Shield.

item 1028 item 2003 item 2003 will be a better lvl 1 purchase.

For that matter item 1029 item 2003item 2003item 2003item 2003 will give you more staying power in the large majority of match-ups.

The only way you can make this D-Shield work is if you add healing amplification passive to it, and even then its iffy.

Only 36 champions have less than 6 base Health Regen at level 1. The majority of those champions are ones who wouldn't build Doran's Shield anyway.

For anyone that has 6 or more, "+100% Base Health Regen" is equal to or better than "6 Flat Health Regen".

Sion in particular has 10 Health Regen at level 1, though I imagine he'd still start Corrupting Potion for the mana.

Also, you forgot that it gives 20 extra Health.

A list of champions with more than 6 HP/5 at level 1 who might use Doran's Shield.

Alistar Blitzcrank Heimerdinger Swain Yorick Volibear Warwick Sion Singed Shen Renekton Rammus Poppy Maokai Malphite Olaf Nautilus Nasus Illaoi DrMundo Darius Garen

That much +%Hp/5 is actually really strong on a lot of top laners. More importantly, it scales.

I mean, Riot has as much as said that it's just a direction and not a final item, but it's actually pretty damn strong.

Yorick Volibear Warwick Shen DrMundo

The real list of champions who might like the new Doran's.

And out of those, Yorick, Voli, and WW would be much more likely to take either D-blade or Corrupting. D-shield just might actually be an option in lanes they have to play passive in.

All of the rest would take either corrupting, d-ring, or d-blade over the new D-shield 100% of the time.

The fact that you think Sion (who has 10 fucking base HP regen) wouldn't want to take this in lane is just the most laughable thing to me.

The fact that you think he's going to take it over corrupting is laughable.

Even if they don't purchase it at level 1, that doesn't mean they aren't going to buy it.

It isn't exactly hard to start with the Corrupting Potion and recall early for Doran's Shield.

The fact that you think it's worse is laughable considering a Rioter himself already stated the number are overtuned and likely to change (Or get pulled alltogether) https://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/5vl7bj/222_pbe_update/de30qpi/

You can also stack these so don't forget that

Its only buffed in match-ups it wasn't needed in in the first place.

You think its going to save you vs Quinn, Jayce, etc? Especially when they aren't just autoing you.

Dude, consider the following. In matchups where the enemy was only dealing AD damage, it was often better to start Cloth and pots. New Doran's wouldn't just help against AD or auto harass, but also against all magic damage harass, including AoE spells.

And frankly, even statwise there's just no downside. Current Doran's isn't even gold-efficient without the passive, which as other people have noted elsewhere is anti-synergistic with armor and MR. The new one, on the other hand... 80 health=213.33 gold + 6 hp/5=216 gold At a cost of 450 gold

Versus 100 health=267 gold + 100% base hp/5=300 gold At a cost of 400 gold

Now I'm no mathamancer, but that looks like one hell of a big improvement in the stats to me, even aside from the BV-lite passive versus flat damage block on a limited selection of damage sources.

Plus, as you noted, it means you get to start with 2 pots.
