Why Toxicity is a really big problem (imo)
Everybody hates to lose, but just because you have lost, or are losing, doesn't mean that you are toxic. Football, soccer, Halo, card games, and several other forms of games and sport aren't famous for their toxicity, even though they possess an equal, if not greater, amount of losers per game. League is known for their toxicity however. People will almost praise League of Legends for their toxic community, it's almost infamous for it. While I think that we can all agree that we should have a less toxic community and that we should all try to be a little less toxic, there are factors of this game that feel as if they were almost meant to induce toxicity. Let me break down what I mean.
Abilities: It is very rare that a singular ability is, in itself, toxic inducing, but it does happen. Fizz's E, Vlad's pool, Yi's Alpha Strike, Malzahar's ult, these are all great examples of toxic inducing abilities. The main factor of these abilities is that these abilities tend to NOT be an ultimate ability, and thus have a shorter cooldown, thus making them more spammable. Another factor is the lack of play to them. I'm not talking counter-play, I'm talking play. Abilities that are skill shot based, or have wind up times, or are telegraphed all have play to them, because you can see it coming, and plan accordingly. However lots of these abilities have no play to them, with no warning that they are going to happen outside of the players knowledge and intuition. Theyalso have then to have a play block build into the ability. The play block stops you from doing things, Fizz's E, Vlad's pool, even Yi's alpha strike will block you from auto attacking them, using target spells on them, using A.O.E. spells on them, cc-ing them, are any other of the major way of playing around abilities, Most of the time you just have to farm while they do it or just try to run away (which you can't on Yi's alpha-strike)/ Vayne's W stacks can't even be QSS or cleansed since it's not a debuff
Kits: This is an extension of Abilities. This is more then just one ability that a champion possesses, but encompasses all of their abilities, passive included, and considers how they work together. Udyr, for example, has a very toxic kit, because of how he can use his abilites to get a shield, do AOE damage, stun, increase his move-speed, etc. Fizz has a pretty toxic kit because of how he can E, then use Q and W in rapid succession. .
Stats: I'm not talking about number's here, I'm talking about the stat's themselves. What the stats are for and how they scale/are used can be extremely annoying. Life steal on a fed AD carry can result in them solo-ing three enemies. Not because the ADC is necessarily great at his/her role, but because their ability to build damage AND become tanky at the same time because of lifesteal hardly seems fair. Even if you load up on armor and try to solo them they will win, not because they burst you down, but because their constant lifesteal allows them to endure sustained fights. Crits apply here too. Many people rage about how the RNG screws them over by not triggering when they have 70% chance for four auto attacks, or by triggerin for enemies 4 times in a row when they only have 30% crit chance. I myself do not mind the Crit chance stat, but I understand how other people feel about it. The next is MR and AR. Both of these stats will prevent 50% damage when they are at 100 each. However, at 200 each, you can only prevent 67% damage. That is quite the drop.
Now I have only been playing League of Legends since season 4, so I haven't seen much, but I have seen a lot of nerfs and buffs handed out to champions for various reasons (the largest being that either the ability or the champ is too strong/weak). However, I have yet to see a, ability get tweaked solely because it is toxic inducing. It's like slapping someone in the face several times a day, and then you think "Maybe I'm slapping him too hard" so you slap him lighter, and then next week you start slapping him harder, but instead of the face, you hit the middle of their back. Granted these are all different ways of slapping someone, some more fair then others, you are still slapping someone, and that someone is going to be annoyed by it. Remember, talk about LCS, TSM, TIP, and any other acronyms you want, but League of Legends is a game first, and a sport second, and games are meant to be fun.
