I think you missed the point. The rework was MEANT to get Morde out of a solo lane because when he is strong enough to be viable, he is incredibly unbalanced.
Pre-rework Morde, and honestly, post-rework, too, suffers from the issue of completely lacking mobility as a melee bruiser. Balance-wise, he is either strong enough to overcome this limitation, or he is easily kited. If he is strong enough to make the lack of mobility irrelevant, then he is overpowered, because it also means he can simply ignore positioning and still stay healthy with high damage.
Slotting him into a bot lane carry position was meant to allow him to be that strong with farm, but need the help of the support to get that farm. I don't believe that goal was actually achieved. Morde still suffers from the same problem. He is way too strong if he just has the minimum damage and survivability required for him to be viable. He is being banned a lot at higher MMR, and his win rate in Plat and above is almost 60%. That win rate also drops off dramatically as the game goes long, so perhaps there is some rebalancing to be done that can make his scaling better and early game less oppressive.
In the end, however, the issue is not that he was forced out of a solo lane. When Morde was viable as a solo laner, he was every bit as toxic a champion as people think Riven is now. CertainlyT attempted to do something interesting with him, but I just don't feel like it worked. It was a good attempt, but it is time to just obliterate Morde completely and rework him from the ground up.
