Some more Galio criticism, at the end of Day 2

tl;dr Tank Galio is going to be obscenely broken and Riot should shift more of his strength into AP if they want him to not hit Live with a 90% banrate

I think his Q and E are great spells, they feel pretty satisfying to land and I don't think they present any balance problems. E's base damage is a little high, but it's telegraphed enough to be justified (and single target). However, I feel like overall, Galio does not follow the fantasy of being an anti-mage.

My problems, and what I think should be changed, are his passive, W, and R.

Colossal Smash I feel like he's doing a bit too much damage with full tank builds with this. I think the AD conversion is a little much; consider changing it to bonus damage with a small AP scaling attached instead. Also, this bonus damage applies to turrets in full; a full tank Galio will absolutely wreck the shit out of towers, especially if an enemy is close enough for him to reset his passive off of.

Shield of Durand I feel like this spell completely misses the mark. Galio talks confidently about how he 'eats' magic, but you don't get anything from it. My problems with the shield are threefold; it being on a static cooldown with no means to gain it in fights encourages passive play in lane and avoiding interaction; and he is not rewarded for eating magic despite his character supposedly being empowered by it; AND he can not give this shield to an ally, which means his usefulness as a Warden is in his strong CC combo and the DR his ult gives, which heavily encroaches on the roles of both Alistar AND Braum respectively.

The ACTIVE of this spell is both horse-shit broken and completely unsatisfying. I don't even need to write about how broken it is, just look at this.

The base damage reduction as well as the scaling should probably take a big hit; either that, or the mana cost AND cooldown need to go WAY up. As for being unsatisfying, the damage reduction is acquired regardless of whether you actually taunt someone or not, leading to a minimal display of skill beyond the taunt itself, as well as being far too generally powerful for a champion who's supposed to be a counterpick. Further, it doesn't do anything for more AP leaning builds. Consider reworking this ability to a middle ground with the old one, where instead of having relentless amounts of damage reduction (up to 8 seconds of it, if you were wondering), he instead gains the old heal after he taunts, with an AP ratio to - once again - encourage him to dip into more offensive itemization and seek out a well-rounded build instead of what he's probably going to do now, while also giving him better synergy with Spirit Visage. Make the heal extra effective against magic damage if you like, to help solidify that he is a champion you should pick into mages. Now he has the option of going full tank to better absorb the up-front burst, but more AP heavy builds will actually heal him right back up.

Hero's Entrance Most of the same complaints as I have with W; giving that much damage reduction to an ally of his choosing will be ridiculous, and not actually noticeable in any way -- it's literally invisible power. Consider having his ult gift his magic shield to the target ally instead, or do something like I proposed with Shield of Durand and have it heal that ally up for receiving damage, which could open him up to itemization like Athene's if he wants to play more support-oriented.

That's all. Thanks for reading.

Ignoring literally everything else about galios kit, including the Retarded amount of AOE Hard cc which will out compete every other tank in the game.....

Does somebody working on champion design not realize how the math behind damage reduction works? Like actually?

Damage reduciton is the single strongest tank stat in the game. It multiplicitavely scales your effective HP and cannot be penetrated. 3000Hp Poppies with 300 armour sound tanky vs adcs right? Well she has about 12k effective HP vs an adc without pen and 9k vs an adc with pen.

Galio with like the 40% damage reduction, 2500HP and 150 armour should be much squishier right? After all those are much lower stats and the 40% is only the base on his kit discluding the fact it scales off resists (lol).

Nope with that damage reduciton he has 10.5k hp vs adcs without pen and 9.3k vs adcs with pen.

Now lets take a lategame situation with these items:

Randuins, Ninjatabi, Sunfire, Banshees, Spirtvisage, Frozen heart. On a level 18 galio.

Also an allied tank support binds a knights vow to Galio because night vow is severly underrated and very good when bound to tanks.

Galio in this instance has something stupid like 80k+ effective hp. No tank with any build comes remotely close. Most tanks lategame only have a max of like 20k. In addition he will slow adcs attackspeed by 30% so he is ~1.43 times as tanky.

His W wont be down either is the the funny thing it lasts like 4 seconds after the second cast and only has like 12 secs cooldown (like 7 after cdr).

Hell the attackspeed slow means even Vayne will have trouble killing him.

Heaven forbid he get any shields ontop of that, possibly one from a mastery he can easily proc because he has tons of cc.
