For everyone complaining about auto-fill, here's how to beat it AND get your primary role always.
Not only will this beat auto-fill, the method can get you your primary role 100% of the time. Sounds unbelievable right ? I've been doing in for weeks now and it hasn't failed me yet.
I hesitated to post this since it only works because I'm most likely the only one doing it. If everyone started doing it, it won't work anymore. But I'm tired of seeing complaints about auto-fill here and in my games so I'm gonna tell you how to get around it.
Lets get into it. It's really surprising that of all the millions of threads here with people complaining about auto-fill and not getting their primary role and all that, that not a single person noticed how the queues work. It took me a while to realize that it's based on time. The more time it takes to match you, the higher the chance of you not getting your primary and the more time goes on, auto-fill becomes more likely.
The next time you queue up for a game, pay attention to the estimated time it produces and stop the queue short that time and restart it. For example, I queue as Top/Mid and I generally get an estimated time between 2 and 3 minutes, give or take a few seconds. While I wait for it to match me, if the queue time goes to 2 minutes and counting, I restart the queue. I suspect anything after 2 minutes, it starts looking at your secondary and anything after 3 minutes, you're getting auto-filled for sure. So the trick is to get into a lobby before 2 minutes. This is how I am able to get my primary 100% of the time. Now there is another thing you should be aware of. When someone dodges a lobby, the timer doesn't restart so your chances of getting your primary again is extremely low. So you must restart the queue on all dodges.
Now there are some caveats. If there are plenty of games with your primary free, you should only have to restart once before being filled into your primary in less than 2 minutes. If you're playing at slow hours, in my case, it's late at night, I tend to be restarting the queue a lot because not many people are playing and not many of them are leaving Top free. But even at slow times, I only have to restart about 3 times for the most. I rarely have to restart it 4 times before it can find a match. To put it simply, what this method is doing is trading short wait times for a chance to get your primary role. Overall, you would be waiting longer to get a game but you would get your primary role guaranteed.
The final caveat is that this method may not work if everyone starts doing it. If everyone starts restarting their queues, then everyone will be waiting forever. For this to work, it needs people to be ignorant of the method. It's a zero sum kinda thing. I may consider deleting this thread after a while so I can keep doing it but I wanna see what people think.
So yea, I read many people saying that they wouldn't mind waiting long if it meant they could get their preferred role, this method does exactly that. GLHF
