Maw of Malmortius is an Unfair Item

Lets begin with Hexdrinker. First of all, it's a 1300 gold middle finger to any AP assassins pretty much all the way into mid game unless they get ungodly fed. Secondly, it wouldn't be an issue if AP champions had a similar item that so easily dealt with AD/AP assassins in the early game, but they don't. Maw of Malmortius undoubtedly has the strongest passive in the game hands down. No other item in the game makes it so you can't be 1 v 1'd by about half the champions in the game on the spot. AP champions have Zhonya's, yes, but Zhonya's is an activated ability with a much longer cooldown than Maw's passive ability, and not only that, it isn't even as powerful. AD champions currently have such a superior item pool to choose from that it's no surprise that almost every game 3 to 4 of the champions on either team are AD. The game would be much better off if Hexdrinker and Maw were removed from the game and replaced with an item similar to Zhonya's that gives you an edge over your lane opponent but doesn't completely squash any hopes you have of ever killing them.

The problem with Zhonya's is that in the intent of it being used for survivability, it's clutch, and often situational. Champions who build MoM are not building it for clutch, they're building it for sustain. Much like Sterak's, it serves its own purpose, without sacrificing the identity being imposed on the champion with the intended build. I don't want to have to jump in as Garen or some other player the current MoM works with, and have to depend it like I'm playing like a semi-glass cannon mage.
