What's a Rune?

Hauling Ashe··2 votes·665 views

So I've been playing League for about 2 weeks now and it's been a blast except for when I encounter feeder trolls. I'm not a great player of course, but I think I'm doing pretty well for a starter. I think I've learned most of the jargon now and I have a decent idea about who does what (at least from the main champ rotations).

What I'm confused about is these runes I keep hearing of. I don't know what they are, where to get them, or how to use them. I'm level 20 so I've been told I should have some by now. The best I can guess is that's what the blank box next to my spells on the loading screen is for.

and you need to change your masteries. you should be 18 down one tree then spread out in the other 2 as needed. the 18th mastery in a tree is called a keystone and has a lot of power.

I would recommend going through the wiki. I think there is a lot you probably need help with and do not have in game friends to help walk you through how complex league is.

Thanks!

I will read up on things some more, although I don't understand why Riot doesn't provide more in-depth tutorials on these things. I know there's a lot to cover but I don't remember any instructions on masteries, runes, or wards, which I have discovered to be pretty important if you want to stand a chance. :/

Riot has decided that their are enough 3rd party sites that cover material that they can do bare minimum.

though the website does have a guide under game play.

http://gameinfo.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/game-info/get-started/

it is not realistic to expect everything loaded in the game IMO. Though i do agree that riots website is far from intuitive and usually missing informative data.

I can shed some light on why that is.

League of Legends works with an air client. It's old, outdated, buggy (frequently doesn't even do math right), and has sections that the relevant Riot employees do not know how to edit. The client has been due to be replaced for a while but it's 2016 and we still have the same one.

League of Legends was announced to be getting a replay system. May have still have been overdue then, but hey! It's progress! It was announced to be in player testing on the Public Beta Environment (PBE). This announcement occurred on what is coming up to be 3 1/2 years ago.

Dragon Master Swain was a concept that got tremendous support (12,000 on the forums) and was confirmed by Morello himself to be something that Riot will be making. The original thread was made near the end of August, 2011. And it's only a skin!

This is the speed at which Riot works and how quickly and effectively they address problems in their game. So I don't find it all surprising when Riot does what they do or the fact that they still don't even have tutorials, no matter how much it screws over new players. That's exactly why I have offered to teach new players before, because I know how bad that is.

But hey! On the bright side: Welcome to League!!

You'll fit right in!

They are customizable ways of boosting your stats.

buy them in the shop under "gameplay", try them out with tier2 runes, now that they are 1IP.

Go to the store; click on gameplay and you'll see a bunch of runes to pick off, there are reds, yellows, blues and quintessences. Buy some and go now to your profile, click on runes and put them in a page. There is a maximum number for each rune, which increases at each level (max at lvl 30 : 9 of red, yellow, blue, 3 of quintessence) Advice : Tier 2 runes aren't the best, but they cost 1 IP only ! Try those out.

I do agree ^

League is super complex, and I promise you that it will take you a while to get a full grasp of it.

Runes are additional base and scaling stats that you can customize and take into each match. The link that Angry Monster gave is great for all of the information on Runes, but I would also recommend using this link

http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_runes

The most important thing to take note of when it comes to runes is which rune type is Primary for it's set.

You can absolutely get AD Marks, Seals, Glyphs, and Quintessences, but you will actually get the most value from the Marks and Quints only, because they are primary. You are better off getting Seals and Glyphs of their respective primary sets.

Two pages I would honestly recommend getting

AD Page

  • Attack Damage Marks
  • Armor Seals
  • Magic Resist Glyphs
  • Movement Speed Quintessences

AP Page

  • Magic Penetration Marks
  • Mana Regeneration Seals
  • Ability Power Glyphs
  • Ability Power Quintessences

There are options of Tier 1, 2, and 3 runes. If you just want to have runes, you might want to grab Tier 1 or 2 sets, but remember that you can not resell them. After you get your Tier 3 sets, the Tier 1 and 2 sets are useless. Kinda sucks, but just letting you know.

All of these, except for movement speed, have flat and scaling options. It is really up to you which you pick. Flat will of course give you more of the stat at the start of the game, but scaling will give you more at the end of the game, usually out scaling flat runes by level 6-8. Personally, I would go for the scaling options, but sometimes it is nice to have that added power in the beginning of the game so you can be more of a bully and start snowballing. With scaling stats, you often need to play a bit more safe early on.

One last thing I would add, .. It may not be practical for starting out because they are so expensive, but I personally recommend getting Hybrid Penetration Marks instead of Magic Penetration Marks on your AP Page. All AP champions still need to be able to deal physical damage, and most of the time they don't deal much of it, so getting the hybrid penetration will often be more helpful in the early game, while still helping with your magic penetration later game, but not as much. So again, it's completely up to you.

Overall, experiment with your own ideas, and have fun. [slayer-jinx-wink]

I think tier 2 runes cost 1 IP now You can buy em in the shop

i would recommend you do the following

Yellow = flat armor Blue = flat magic resist Red = attackdamage Quints = attackdamage

This should work on every champion even on mages as they still use basic attacks to farm and fight.

dont bother yet with tier 3 runes, you want to safe up for them as they cost alot
