Why I Don't Want 10 Bans

Enter Yasuo.

I hate Yasuo just as much as the other guy, but with 10 bans, he'll never see the light of day. As much as I hate his kit or his tryhard playerbase, I wouldn't want to ruin someone's experience by completely shutting off access to their main because he's quite literally permabanned. And how many other champs will this affect? Will it even be possible to main Zed, Yasuo, Jhin, Blitzcrank, Illaoi, Caitlyn, Darius, Susan, Annie, Katarina, Riven, or (God forbid) Vayne? If your champ is FOTM or on the Riven List, you'll never be able to play them.

"Git gud" and "expand your champ roster" are the common responses, but some people have a fondness for their mains. Most people also don't have 8 top laners just in case, because they main support or ADC and they haven't invested in half the available top laners just so they can switch it up every five games. The last thing I want is to go jg for a game (I rarely play jg) and have all 3 or 4 jg champs I own get banned because I got lucky and they just happen to be FOTM. Heck, it's hard enough to collect all the champs specific to your position anyway if you care about runes.

"It will spread the crowd selection." A.) That's communism, and B.) maybe Sona's kit bores me and I'd rather be playing Janna. Or maybe I don't want to be another Lee Sin and Ivern fits the bill better. Or maybe Maokai doesn't have an interesting character design to me and I would rather be J4. Or maybe I just flat out suck at Lissandra and want to play Akali.

And "play blind pick" is not an argument. Blind pick is where the saltiest of salt is collected, and no one of any rank or skill plays it unless they're helping their friends who are new to League, or unless they want to get that free S for mastery 7 Master Yi.

I'm fine with 10 bans in the pro scene. I couldn't care less about that. But for the average player's normal draft or ranked games, it's not healthy. Please don't initiate this, Riot.

Then maybe they should make it so Yasuo isn't worth a ban?

Ruin Lance1 votes

he isn't but people like you think he is and as a result he has the highest ban rate

AirKingNeo4 votes

Except for the part when he's banned in Diamond+ all the time, or was except Riot decided to buff a few champions too much and let them become to strong and overtake his ban.

Ruin Lance1 votes

actually he's hardly banned in diamond+ compared to low elo. i get yasuo in 4/5 of my games in my diamond 5 elo ranked games whereas in low elo he's ACTUALLY banned a lot.

AirKingNeo3 votes

That's because they have more people in low elo.

I can respect and understand the preference for their main (I don't play her a ton, but Shyvana's my favorite and I cry every time I see she's getting popular), but I still think we should have 10 bans. I've heard the idea of ban 2, pick 2, ban 3, pick 3, or something similar tossed around, and I think that's probably a good compromise.

How about if someone is permabanned like that they look into why and make them less OP/obnoxious/pubstompy to correct the issue?

back in my day you didn't get your role 4/5ths the time. no role guarantee. consider yourself lucky you didn't have to learn how to play multiple positions just to not feed game after game.

you should expand your champion pool, its ranked, if it happens it happens and you need to be prepared for it.

I'm a Yasuo main, and I read this, and I can't thank you enough.

My ban will always be reserved for that stupid to play against champion.... Zed.

I'd rather get owned by a Yasuo than by an ultrasafe assassin.

when they fix vaynes % MAX HP TRUE DAMAGE WITH FLAT TRUE DAMAGE then i may stop banning her and go back to banning those 2 and firoa Saying that the enemy has to play well for those champions to be good is stupid because match makeing is supposed to put you versus people who are similar skill level too you.

If a champion is banned in close to 100% of games, it means that their kit is so inherently broken for one reason or another that no one wants to play against them, ever.

A champion like that should not even exist in their current state. They are in urgent need of a rework - far more so than the underplayed champions like Poppy.

Maybe once Yasuo reaches near-100% ban rate, Riot will finally acknowledge that his kit was a huge mistake and no one wants to play against him terribly-designed kit, and they can finally rework him into an actually healthy champion that people can accept having in their games.

Yasuo deserves it.

Adapting to different circumstances is part of skill, and it's already easy enough that you can select roles...

Hauling Ashe1 votes

Adapting to different circumstances also includes learning how to play against champions instead of banning them so that you never see them again.

That would mean we should have no bans at all.

Bans are there for people to not have to deal with BS they don't want to deal with.

If that happens to be Yasuo or Blitz, or hell even Urgot for w/e reason then so be it.

yea it will suck for people that main frequently banned champions, but that is a problem with the champion, not the player base.

What will have to happen is Riot will have to take a good look at champions like Yasuo and Vayne and actually address the problems that these champions have that cause them to be Anti-Fun and hated by so many players. Only then will they not be perma banned into oblivion. What their mains will have to do is learn a new champion. If they can't, they will lose more games, and rightfully so. They should already have a backup pick or 2 that is not likely to get banned every game, and if they don't its their own fault. If any player can't adapt to the way the game changes, they don't deserve to climb. Its as simple as that. Malzahar's my main, when he was being banned away every game, yes it sucked, but I got over it and move on to my secondary picks who were Azir and Vlad at the time or i could move to another role and play Skarner in the jungle, Bard at support, or Gangplank up top. If a player doesn't have atleast 1 other champion they can play when their main is a popular ban, they are setting themself up for failure. Out of 133 other champions in the game any should be able to find atleast 3 others that they can enjoy atleast a little bit. And if they can't, making a post and asking suggestions isnt an awful idea. In all the threads I see of people asking for help finding a new champion to play its very rare I find somebody who isnt trying to help in some way.

10 Bans is needed due to the amount of champions in League now. With there being close to or around 130 champions, 6 bans is just not enough and really it's sad that it took this long to even really consider it (assuming Riot is increasing the bans or not, idk if it was official or just speculation).

Not like the same champions will be banned every game or anything. Everyone has their picks for champions that they hate enough to ban and it's not always "Who is the strongest". Some people might ban Azir because of that 1 game they got destroyed in by a really good Azir or just doesn't want to deal with fighting him, which for most other people...they wouldn't ban Azir unless he was FOTM.

Everyone has their selection of champions that they want to not deal with and there is most likely a lot of them...A lot of champions are kind of bull shit honestly which is why 10 bans is really needed.

Well if a champion is so busted that he/she/it would never see the light of the day with enough bans maybe there's a problem with the champion and not with the number of bans.

Actually that might be just what we need. If someone reaches old Kassadin levels of ban rate, especially someone as popular as Yasuo, then Rito will absolutely have to look into them.

Hauling Ashe1 votes

So are you saying Blitzcrank is busted?

Ulquiorra9951 votes

Yes, he is busted. Not in a "gamebreakingly overpowered" way, but still busted with so much power loaded on a single ability that he can do nothing entire game and then hit it right just once and single-handedly win it for his team.

Of course, if he reaches huge ban rate they will take a look at him. Maybe make his Q more similar to Vi where he needs to slow himself and charge it in order to increase its range and add more power to other parts of his kit - the result being a more well-rounded champion with a healthy dose of counterplay outside of "dodge every fucking Q he throws during the game without error".

Yooba1 votes

Doesn't matter. We can still play Yasuo in normals after reaching the rank we want with any given champion. Meanwhile, these silver kids who ban it will still be silver.

Hauling Ashe1 votes

Normals has bans too. Unless you want to risk your sanity in blind pick.
