Solution to Tank Assassin/ADC/etc. Builds: Bonus Health Changes

Currently, there are some Assassins and a few ADCs who would rather build Tank than build damage. While a bruiser build shoukd certaintly be a little viable, Tank build just shouldn't be a thing. This why I suggest: Changing Bonus Health from Flat Bonus to Percent Bonus Based on Base Health Similar to health and mana regeneration, changing Bonus Health this way can make it to where building tons of health is more of a Tank thing and other classes would rather build Armor and Magic Resist, which can be built around much more easily with armor and magic penetration, which is more common in items than anti-health.

It would be like this: item 1028 +10% Health

item 1011 +25% Health

item 3067 +15% Health

item 3801 +12% Health

item 3083 +50% Health

item 3751 +20% Health

item 3068 +35% Health

item 3143 +35% Health

item 3742 +35% Health

item 3065 +40% Health

This way, somone with 500 + 80 per level base health is getting much less benefit than a Tank with 600 + 95 per level base health. A typical build with health items with a Warmog's will have about +155-190% increased base health. This will make Tanks with 2135 base health get more out of health items than an Assassin with 1835 base health. More importantly, however: This allows Riot to balance Tank builds by adjusting the Assassin's or non-Tank's base health and not their abilities, giving them more options for balance than giving them huge ratios and tiny base numbers "But isn't this a buff for Tanks?!" No, not until super late game at least. At Level 1, Tanks have about 580-680 base health. This means that Ruby Crystal will give them 58-68 base health as opposed to the current 150. This also means that Tanks that perform well early and are near unkillable are no longer so since they no longer have insane defenses early on. Maokai Top Lane is no longer a huge brick wall early game.

This is a great idea. I love it, even though it will screw up my ap bruiser builds. But I guess thats the point.

For those curious, anyone gaining below 90 health per level will be gaining less health from the listed items, anyone in the 90s per health range will be gaining about the same amount of health as currently, and anyone above 99 health per level will gain more health from these items.

Shen item 3070 Sion item 3070

Some tanks actually start out rather squishy as a way to encourage them building tanky. You'd need to change their bases all over again.

unless sions w passive will be base health in which case this will be a good thing for shen buff his base hp nerf his shiedl a little and hes pretty much the same i guess

yea. you have to start trying to define build paths based on the core stats of the champions. otherwise, you cant make champions like illaoi who have kits that are simultaneously shitty and overpowered and rito seems hell bent on doing that.

a benifit of doing this is that its multiplicative. small base stat differences at the beginning of the game have a huge impact on the build at the end of the game.

I think this is really close to what they'll do eventually.

Juggernaughts and fighters have pretty good base armor/magic resist and they want to build lots of health to supplement those natural tankier stats. Look at their items: item 3071 item 3078

Tank items have started to shift towards accumulating lots of bonus armor. See: item 3075 , item 3025. So I believe that tanks will have lots of base health and will have their items tuned to reward building lots of base defenses over health items.

probably where tanks will be going

and juggernauts and or other very tanky classes which might not exist yet

its eaasier to balance i think giving tanks huge base healthpools and high base armor and mr to work with and having items which expand on those base stats will work better

we have already seen some of this at work with item 3025 where the slow fieldsize scales with armor we can have certain tank utility items scale with base health or bonus health

Talon has more health than Rammus at level 18

Just saying.

Yeah, but no one is building Talon as a Tank. So it wouldn't really matter.

Zed has tank stats so then he will get more hp....

It's a good thing that Tank Zed is not a thing then.

While this would be good in stopping the wannabe-tank assassin crap, I get the feeling that this would be a nerf to squishy champs building items with HP like item 3105 item 3060 item 3010 item 3136 item 3030 item 3152 item 3151 item 3190 item 3027 item 2045 item 3116 item 2049. These are common items in the builds of a number of mages & supports. This would be even more punishing to medium to short range mages who have to get closer to the battle to dish out damage.
