All these people complaining about having to buy sightstone

TheLittlestLulu··127 votes·5,115 views

You weren't around back in the day when supports were expected to buy 1 gold/10 item, boots, and nothing but wards.

Kids these days.

Edit: Oh woops I forgot we were also expected to keep 100% uptime on oracles elixir.

You'll notice the ones spamming the boards with it are low elo and not all are even support mains. Just looks like the current troll epidemic. Hopefully they'll move on shortly.

Yea, you're right.

not to mention supports do enough dmg to kill a adc early game and dont even need that much ap to be impactful

khorney2 votes

I mean tbh ap ss item or frost queens... 25 ap isn't much of a loss . The only disadvantage is the relic shield Ss item because there is no cdr on it

Talisman has 45 armor, Eye of the Oasis does not.

People really underestimate the ridiculous amount of utility Ghosts have.

TequilaZombie1 votes

I absolutly hate those ghosts. Whenever I do an amazing juke as a Shaco and walk away some support decides to use them and ruins everything. Man, that's annoying.

Supports, if the enemy team has an assassin, buy that shit.

I think thats a great advice. I usually dont buy them because i dont wanna use up two slots for my gold item and sighstone, but i was wondering when i should buy them and when i shouldnt, and you just convinced me. Buy them for a shaco! Lol

It's like having WW's E without needing to have the enemy below half health. The upgraded red trinket is also awesome, as prevents Shaco from using Q to do a full turn while running away. The ideal "Fuck you, Shaco" combo is:

Shaco presses Q, you use your trinket, basicly limiting him to 180 degrees of scape route, instead of a full 360. If he tried to do the usual juke of Q'ing in your direction to run away, the trinket will show him.

If not, keep running in the same direction you were, count to 3, which is the duration of the stealth and use the ghosts. He should be only one flash further than he was before, and the ghosts will slow him down enough for you to possibly catch up.

Shacos usually build either max cdr or none at all, so you either have 6.6 seconds to catch him, or 11 before his Q is back up.

If he build item 3117, abuse the fact that he needs to be out of combatfor 5 seconds for them to proc. On top of the 40% slow of the ghosts, they will also put Shaco in combat for the duration of the slow plus 5 seconds, taking away a flat 90 mov speed (it is actually more, as Shaco's tend to build at least one item that gives them mov speed item 3087 item 3078). So he's basicly screwed.

Thats a pretty good strategy. I usually have 2 pink wards on me when im against a shaco/rengar/akali/ anybody that goes invisible and i have my oracle as well. But i never thought that ghost would be a good idea if they're out of the oracle/pink radius

General Esdeath 1 votes

It gives a shield and you will be building it on a tank, meaning Ruby sightstone (Gives 20% CDR on items) is a good buy for more HP.

khorney1 votes

20% for active items . That's okay sure better then it used to be but 2 items to replace 1 item isn't efficient . I do that if I'm going to be getting zzrot because the damage scales off hp

General Esdeath 1 votes

It's not just for replacing, and that 1 item comes from the 2 you're using.

khorney1 votes

but it is, why get frost queens over the sight stone coutner part..... if i bought frost queens i would hav eot get ruby sightstone

Because most of the time Frost Queen's is simply too important to give up. A good Frost Queen's active can win the game.

I remember asking for ward limits, so everyone would be forced to take up the burden of warding (not just supports). Wish granted.

I still get yelled at for not dispelling the FoW by myself. (- -_- -)

ForeverLaxx3 votes

The sad fact here is that even with the dumb ward limits forced upon us, non-supports are still loathe to use what few wards they have access to. As a former jungler main (Aram-only now) I made it my job to assist supports with the warding. Not many things were more painful than being "forced" to ward for my Top and Mid teammates because they refused despite getting ganked multiple times.

Battlecast Sona2 votes

"gg noob jungler doesn't gank"

...there's literally 0 wards in top lane, you have 2 charges of your trinket... of course you're getting camped. He probably comes up with raptor buff, sees it not proc, and knows it's free. The worst is when mid laners do it though - even 1 ward placed in a good position in mid lane can make it soooo much harder to gank you.

Ariel the Cruel1 votes

The simple anti-gank method that so many mids don't seem to get. War 1 side of lane. Then hug that side for dear life. Will the opponent(s) know you warded? Probably. But now their jungler has to enter vision every time they gank. . . . Unless they're Rammus or Shaco. Then it just sucks to be you. ;p

NicolasTr8 votes

Sightstone not neccessary, they added stacks on yellow trinkets for that. Leave support alone.

First of all yellow trinket does not offer the kind of uptime potential that sightstone offers, but even more importantly if you are using yellow trinket instead of sightstone that means you do not have a sweeper.

And no pink wards do not make up for the loss of sweeper. Pink wards can't clear multiple brushes like a sweeper can.

Ariel the Cruel3 votes

I rarely by sweeper. I'm too busy being the only one dropping blue wards. (Thanks team. Glad to know I'm the only one who cares about vision every damn time.)

RianDuong4 votes

Sightstone is the best item for value in the game, and gives support the real utility. Vision is so important in LoL, why have 1 ward every 1-2 minutes when you can have 3 every minute.

As are many of the people who argue that sightstone is important on supports.

I want it removed because it's important on supports. And my top 3 mastery champions are Leona Soraka Thresh.

I want supports to be defined by their kits and the way they can use their champion to make plays, save lives and secure kills. (See that list of champions again -- you know who they are, you know what they do, the word "ward" does not belong anywhere in that.)

The vision minigame has a role in the overall game, but having it focused on one role distracts them from their actual role. Junglers occasionally get clobbered by this too, but at least for them controlling the whole map IS their actual role so it kind of works together.

If there were a way to have one designated vision specialist per team without weakening them in gold or inventory, something like a permanent buff relic that spawns one in each base that gives you a second trinket slot or w/e, I expect the majority of teams would give it to their jungler, except maybe some teams that really want to commit to a 4-1. The support would just not make sense from any point of view other than the current "if we have to cripple someone, let's cripple him", and you can imagine how much fun that is to play.

Elikain6 votes

I have no idea what's the problem with Sightstone now. Did tyler1 persuade these boosted animals to troll the boards?

Leetri5 votes

Bandwagon, as with every other topic on the board. Someone posts a single thread about Sightstone, gets a bunch of upvotes and then 5+ other people decided they want some of those upvotes as well.

Mr Borg6 votes

Wait people complain about buying sight stones? I don't even play support and I know it's dumb not to.

Kitty Hole5 votes

What happened to clairvoyance? I miss it so much.

Ariel the Cruel6 votes

I remember when Clairvoyance was a considered powerful, just so you could scope the other team's base at the beginning of a match and figure out who was going where.

Melledoneus1 votes

Now you can just look at the summoner spells and champions. Usually. Kind of hard to tell if that Quinn or Graves is going to make my top lane hell this game.

Ariel the Cruel1 votes

Plot twist! It's Vayne.

Kog is going mid and Ashe is support.

Masterkerfuffle5 votes

I have zero sympathy for "supports" who just play mages bot Lane and refuse to even buy a gold income item, making themselves completely useless

Back in my day, a support was fed as shit if it managed to complete an entire aegis

What support main is complaining about SS? Did we just have a bunch of ADCs try to switch mains again?

Oryiah3 votes

Comparing a current complaint to a time when things were harder isn't really a good argument against the current issue. Sometimes you have to try to carry as a support and it's hard when you have 1 less slot.

If you're in a position where you have to "try to carry" on a support then not buying sightstone is a pretty good way to turn a probable loss into a guaranteed loss.

Which is my point exactly? lol I wish there were other vision options other than something that takes up a whole slot permanently.

I Q5 votes

What you just said made no sense what so ever.

He made a counter-argument to your statement and you reply "Which is my point exactly". Also there are other options for vision, in a matter of fact buying a item 2049 opens more vision options in your trinket slot.

Battlecast Sona3 votes

If you're in a position where you have to "try to carry" on a support then not buying sightstone is a pretty good way to turn a probable loss into a guaranteed loss.

that's exactly what he's saying - the "rebuttal" was that you have to buy sightstone, and Oryiah says "which is my point exactly" - because previously you could at least opt into upgraded yellow trinket which let you keep 3 sight wards up at all times though not quite as flexibly as SS. Now there's no other option so you HAVE to take a sightstone item.

The problem now is that there is no option that is equal to or even close to equal to SS as far as ward uptime goes - the nerfs to yellow trinket and loss of yellow trinket upgrade means there is no other option for sight wards. It's kinda sad because season 5 was low-key the season of support build diversity because you could upgrade your yellow trinket in place of SS with very few downsides as long as you managed it properly - allowing you to actually pick people who really want that sixth slot as supports into passive lanes (RIP support Ziggs) D=
