A shield that lasts until it's destroyed

Should this be implemented into the kit of a current or future champion (with a shield ability obviously)? Currently, most shield abilities are temporary. But I think it would be interesting if you could give an ally a shield that has to be destroyed, instead of just waiting for the shield to expire.

I think its an issue of counterplay. You can wait out a morg shield or ori shield or w/e but if it stayed up until destroyed then 1 person (maybe more?) on the team gets free hp basically. Would have to be a weak shield to compensate or it would be considered op.

No. There is no counterplay issue here. You just have to destroy the shield. It's not like a Fizz troll pole where they become untargetable or anything.

I think the problem comes from how such a shield is applied. If it's permanent until broken. How does that work when you use it again? Do the shields stack? or does it simply refresh the shield strength. And even if it's only a refresh, the maximum power is still effectively double the actual shield, assuming you have the shield at full strength and the spell off cooldown. At least in Malphites case, his shield is reliant on his passive, giving you little control which prevents it from getting abused.

And after everything I just said, you still need to consider who the spell is meant for and how it scales. (does it scale with AP like a support or a mage? or off HP like a tank?) And if the spell is useable on any ally, then you have to consider the team comp when balancing that ability.

Balancing such mechanics are really harder than they look.

Well, why don't we actually discuss how to make this balanced instead of downvoting my thread and posts into oblivion (which usually happens every time I throw out a suggestion anyways)? To answer your question, no the shield would not stack. But you can refresh the shield (like if it's been weakened or something) by casting it a second time on someone who already has it. When I said it lasts until it's broken, I meant broken by an enemy, so yes you would be able to refresh the shield even if someone already has it. But they would not stack.

Runic Blessing, the old mastery, gave you a permanent 50 health shield when you started the game or respawned. It kind of sucked though.

morgana black shield?

I could be mistaken, but I believe the shield expires after a few seconds.

Lulu R is this basically but its not called a shield because ally cast shields are suppose to be temporary or else it becomes a heal +1.

They already did this with Runic Blessing.

It sucked, hard.

Mostly because it never came back till you died.

Runic blessing could have been a keystone had it been able to come back without dying.

It actually didn't, I'm pretty sure a lot of pros took it to win level 1 fights People are just idiots and think you should be able to take a mastery in every situation without thinking.

What's the difference between a shield that lasts until it is destroyed and a heal?
