LoL Needs a "FILL MATCH" Queue for AFK/DC

Eyrgos··16 votes·2,146 views

Riot, LoL needs a "fill match" queue where a person can replace afk/dc'd players after a certain window of inactivity/dc.

You'd legitimately take over the players Champion with their same gold/items/masteries, when the queue pops it'd give the option to "keep looking".

A person wouldn't be able to overtake a Champion they don't own or who aren't part of the free Champions of the week.

And the window would be fair... like 5 minutes.

An equitable amount of exp/gold could be added determined proportionally to an average of exp/gold gained across the duration afk/dc from the team you're joining (though this isn't necessarily needed since 1 player > 0).

Would solve so many issues & just be huge for game health.

Riot, what do you think?

I'd rather them just end the game and give you a loss forgiven and give the other team less LP.

If anything, do that for Ranked but allow Fill Queue for Unranked.

And Loss Forgiven's wouldn't be provided in most cases, especially that of AFK players (they're pretty rigid about drawing the line on subjective matters like, "well... just hooow afk were they").

My only concern is what happens if the afk/dc comes back after the 5 minute window? Cause to be honest this is a tiny window for even me who has to afk from time to time to help my mom with something which may take all up to 10 minutes. When I reconnect I often still have a chance of winning the game with my team so I wouldn't want to be unable to play.

I suggest an a format like Team builder where players will wait for an open slot for a game. Then dc/afkers if then able to give up their game per say and put it available for filling in. Then players would see this and be able to fill for that person but the person won't be able to rejoin the game whatsoever. This would be useful for times people have to go to bed and etc.

Thing is, you shouldn't be joining a game & afking for 10 minutes, that can easily be close to half the match... you kinda don't deserve to get back into your match in that scenario, 5 minutes seems extremely fair to me.

thing is shit happens that you cannot control. You can have all the time in the world and then something stupid happens like a package delivery that you yourself wasn't expecting but someone else in your house/apartment was but didn't tell you about it and you then needing to go look somewhat decent (aka not going out in your underwear) that can take time. Maybe someone called you and are like "X person died" that will take some time. Maybe someone in your family needs help with something. Maybe your game crashed. Maybe your PC crashed. All these things and more that you cannot control can screw you up

Yes, it does. And for that, one should reasonably forfeit their spot in a match rather than hinder their team by afking for 5+ minutes.

Major emergencies happen also, if they do... there's really no solid reason a person should be rushing back to their computer in a flurry to finish the match they just AFK'd for a long while.

Minor things happen too, that's why I think 5 minutes is a generous window of time (like for a surprise package delivery or diarrhea incident).

sorry but when the game crashes it can take well over 5 mins to connect again, it all depends on how much the client wants to screw with you. I have had games where i crashed and couldn't get back in until about 7 mins have passed and i had been trying to get back in, I had one game where i just kept getting the stupid firewall error over and over no matter what i did and had to spent over 15 mins trying to get back in. So according to your logic even though i have been trying to get in and actually help my team i should just get punished for something that is not my fault in the slightest. This is the reason Riot doesn't do this type of stuff. There is literally no way to know who afk'd on purpose and who is having technical issues/life problems.

That's exactly why this system doesn't discriminate, it just gives time.

If you can't get in quicker than 5 minutes or so, something's either wrong on Riot's side which it's their fault & they need to fix OR something's wrong on your side, which again would mean you need to get it together. Technical errors happen & they suck, but they shouldn't harm four other people's fair odds of winning.

Perhaps 6 minutes would be more fair but... if it really takes that long, the match is pretty much already screwed.

And really, what's the point of getting back in after 10-15 minutes of inactivity? Why should you bother anymore at that point? Just let it go & if you do happen to get back in, honestly, just play a new match.

More harm is done to four others by letting you return after 10+ minutes than is done to you alone.

more harm is also done when you get some random player who will most likely not going to even try at all and is only doing this for free IP, not to mention that whoever is going to play will most likely have no idea what champion they are playing as, who long has passed since whoever they are replacing has afk/DC'd what their runes/masteries are and what items is that person building among many other factors. Also it's really douchy just o say "why should you bother anymore?" when i have been trying to get in for the past 10+ mins to a game. Like i said, Riot won't do this type of things because you are not only punishing people who can have legitimate problems getting back into the game (and Riot doesn't care about it unless they activated the loss prevented thing in which case they assume it was enough) vs those who actually left the game on their own accord or are just standing in fountain dancing and talking shit. You report those people and move on with your life.

What you're referencing is TROLLING which' reportable. Having this option won't cause any more or less trolling. If that happens, just report it & move on with your life. That will happen in any queue...

Also, the OP strongly alludes to the fact you'll be able to see what Champion/Items/Masteries you'd be accepting (or else there's the option to "keep looking" as mentioned).

Purposely AFKing during a match for 10 minutes is inconsiderate. You have 4 other REAL people on your team who are trying their best, they deserve just as much of an opportunity to win as the other team.

this is actualy a pretty good idea!

Ok I really like the idea. It's a cool idea that nice people could queue up just to help out poor people who have been stranded in a 4v5 (totally me) or just for the challenge of carrying a losing game. I know some people expressed concern over people who come back after over 5 minutes but really I think that it should just be clear that if you have an issue that's not just a quick restart then sorry you gave up your spot.

Now after agreeing I have to say that it's unlikely riot is gonna implement this idea because this system does still leave the team for a while and relies on a whole bunch of people being nice enough to queue into what's probably a losing game (not always but there's a high likelihood). There may be more reliable ways to go about fixing the issues of 4v5s.

Still all in all it's an awesome idea, +1 for creativity

Thanks! Yeah, we'll see... I hope they do something like this eventually, if even just for Unranked.

AFK/DC practically forcing a loss is epidemic & needs such a system.

I see no legitimate reasons for wanting to join in a game the side I'm joining is most certainly losing. I can't imagine many scenarios that joining one of these is going to lead to a lot of wins. You're more than likely going to lose more often than you would by just playing a normal game.

For those who aren't interested... they don't have to utilize the Fill Match Queue.

I for one would LOVE to come in & be the HERO that saves the match from DOOM.

Not only that, a chance at a quick comeback victory would be worth a shot for many.

You could join a match that's 20 minutes in & clean it up in 5, that's a huge incentive.

They could always provide additional incentive too like added IP on win or loss.

I remember in Season 3 when I started the same champs were banned for a long time, not because they were broken or OP, but because of what they brought to a fight and helped a team. I always saw Shen, Amumu, and Malphite banned because they had great ults.

The problem with this when you have had one person afk/missing the team would most likely be losing, and nobody would willingly want to join a match where they start off losing.

I don't want to join a shitty game someone ragequitted and lose for that, I don't want to assume someone else choices. Better just get a free surrender and start a fresh game. I don't mind leaver that much, you kinda earned it if you verbally attacked someone instead of calming him down.

Leavers should just get more penalty if they happens to leave often, and I think riot got that under control. It can only get better at detecting players abusively leaving. I think you should get a loss forgiven once(so you can't try to force someone to leave each time) if only it's your promo match and that it was at least 5+ min before the end of the game. LP can be farmed easily, but in promos it can get frustrating I agree.

This queue wouldn't be for you then & that's fine, it's not for everybody.

As I mentioned elsewhere, I would love to join a late-game, quick cleanup/comeback & be the hero for an otherwise doomed match.

You could always queue it & utilize the "Keep Looking" Feature... perhaps I need to give more details on that:

It gives you info. on the Champion/Gold/Items/Masteries you'd be taking over. As well, it should provide match-length so you can weigh if it's worth hopping into.

And again, even if a person rage-quits, you'd gain a bonus premium of exp/gold for how long they've been missing relative to your team's net exp/gold gain... so you shouldn't really be behind by much, at least you wouldn't be behind your own teammates virtually at all.

Per Favore1 votes

Doesn't really seem like it would work, unless league has a huge population of masochists. Why would anyone want to join the losing side of a game behind in levels and gold? I would envision that people playing this would pass every game except the rare cases people are winning 4v5.

You can't compensate extra gold/exp because that isn't fair to the other team. It would be like oh you beat that guy in lane super hard and he would be really behind except now that he left someone else replaces him and gets some of that gold/exp back you denied earlier.

Eyrgos1 votes

Read a lot of the replies, I spoke to how it would work. It's not for everybody but there'd be plenty who would be in to it, surely.

And you can compensate exp/gold, just can't be generous with it. If the player were drastically behind, they'd still be behind just with a small bump relative to your whole team's avg. performance. to make up for the duration of inactivity.

You wouldn't get compensated for beating beat out of lane & never making any cash... you wouldn't have the base-gold earnings or the items to show for it when you joined.
