More Jungle Exp is bad... laners stealing Jungle more than ever; a better solution

Have Smite grant scaling experience from Monsters instead of Monsters themselves granting more experience to all.

What do you think?

{quoted}

If smite grants scaling experience, and you fall behind? You will never catch up.

If you put it on machete, it still limits it to the jungler. But it could give you a way of coming back when you're behind.

It wouldn't scale with your personal level; it would scale with game duration.

So actually then, it gains a rather fair & useful catch-up mechanism.

The reason it's better on Smite than on Machete is because Smite wouldn't require the kill... so if you wanna feed your ADC Red buff, you can while still gaining exp from the monster. Win-win, not giving up your "jungle lane" experience.

Machete doesn't have this capability.

You need smite to buy machete anyway, lol.

Oh, okay. That actually makes a lot of sense.

The idea of getting experience just from smiting . . . I'm not sure if that's beautiful and necessary, or kinda broken. But, I think it's definitely worth a try, and maybe some tuning if it doesn't work out.

There's definitely some considerations but I agree, it's worth a shot.

Different versions of Smite may need different curves (like ones with lower CD, etc.) but it wouldn't be all that difficult to tune properly.

P.S. love your username.

Updated OP, explains why it's far better to have on Smite.

Good Idea, cause the whole point is for us junglers to get ahead not others. And if they want to sacrifice smite for more exp then w/e.

I would say just add bonus experience to monsters while using machetes. It's getting really annoying, I can't count the amount of times I asked people to stop taking my Gromp as Rammus last game..

As a jungle main, having increased jungle exp like this does incentivize laners taking camps, but only later in the game I was playing a Heimer match yesterday, and the enemy Veigar and Leblanc were duo laning me mid (It was a strange match). They harassed me enough that I couldn't keep up in farm, and post 6, since I couldn't afford Zhonya's yet, the Veigar was able to instagib me whenever I walked past my tower. I couldn't farm at all and trying to roam is rather pathetic on Heimer, so I had to stall out and try to farm as much as possible. Our Tryndamere jungle (he was actually a really lousy jungler, DCed halfway through the match because he hadn't ganked and all our lanes were behind) swapped to mid where he wouldn't be instagibed like me and I started hard farming jungle camps. The bonus exp was enough that I ended up slingshotting past everyone else and managed to hit 18 first even though I had had a horrible lane phase, and that was enough that my team tied the game up and nearly won (except for that DC).

From a jungler's perspective, having increased late game camp EXP is actually an amazing thing. By that point in the game it becomes a catchup tool for you whole team, which is fantastic. If I'm behind in jungle, then I can hard farm camps and get back to exp parity. If I had a lousy lane, I can snag an extra camp while my jungler is somewhere else and have a way back into the game. Nobody takes any extra camps early game, because the exp difference is still so small, but late game, when everyone is sharing the jungle camps anyway it is a really awesome change.

Snip

Thw new experience curve may have some pros but it's far too detrimental to the Jungler in many matches. I've played it a lot already, so many people yanking jungle creep like it's Black Friday, even in early game. Worse than ever.

What could happen is... my proposed change + altering the curve so it starts out lower but climbs higher in the mid-late game so the team-wide catch up is still present.

That's the thing I don't get: they didn't buff early game exp at all, so stealing camps early has almost no new benefit for a laner until mid-late game. I guess I haven't played enough matches to tell whether more people take them than before (since it varies a lot from match to match).

Even just a tiny bit & people will think it's enough to give them that small edge in-lane. Even having just heard "jungle grants more xp now!" regardless of knowing the facts of how or how much, people will still flock because they're lemmings.

Both casuals & elitists alike will abuse it to no end.

Which' why extra exp on Smite is better. Even if someone tries stealing your Gromp or you wanna feed Red or Blue to a laner, you can get a sizable chunk of exp off the monster still regardless of having to land the KB.

Stop enforcing the meta?

Stop enforcing the meta?

Not trying to, in fact, I'd love to allow laners to utilize Smite for exp edge & lane-push... however, I'm thinking more about the big picture & what's healthy for the game.

It's not so much enforcing the meta as it would be unhealthy (and perpetuate the issue) to have Smite viably run on every allied Champion.

I'm naturally opposed to meta-enforcement, but this' different--this' about gameplay health & mechanics.

I'm a game designer myself & so I'm looking at the holistic viewpoint.
