How to make Graves more badass: Collateral Damage now blows away terrain

This is just something that has been bugging me before the Bilgewater event, but after reading the story of act 1 I think there needs something to be done.

You know, Graves is a guy that gives zero fucks. People shooting on him? No fucks given. Building Burning? No fucks given. Wall in the way? NOT A SINGLE FUCK GIVEN. I mean, in one of the skins you even see him in front of a blasted wall and it totally fits his theme. On the other hand this could be the perfect opportunity to make his ultimate feel more like an unique skill and not just like a "Fat Q".

My thought on this would be: When the projectile of the ultimate hits a wall it explodes, and if the wall is thin enough it breaks down, all enemies behind it getting the cone-damage of the ultimate, enemies standing close to the wall get extra damage. After some time the wall returns to normal.

The general question would be more: Would it be possible in the current engine? Temporarely removing terrain I mean?

It would open up a lot of possibilitie, such as breaking into the dragon pit from the other side or blasting an escape route if needed...

(Edit: Oh, and give him his cigar back while you're at it)

Yes! That is EXACTLY what I had in mind ^^ This would feel so badass ingame...

I mean instead of removing the terrain it could essentially make a Magical Journey through the wall, except it would have a limited range (can only go through x units of terrain) and could just be blackened hole instead of a glowing portal.

This is a really interesting idea. There's a few of champs that can create terrain, why not have some that can destroy it?

With all the novel mechanics Riot's been trying out with their newer champions I wouldn't be surprised if there's a terraforming/terrain-control champ in the future.

At the very least Graves could destroy temporary champ-generated terrain..

Well, not that there is much, apart from a Jarvan ult and an anivia wall...

A few. Plus Trundle Pillar and Azir ultimate.

Guess I could've said 4 instead..

Not sure if they can, but a good compromise would be for it to shatter player made terrain as it passes through. Maybe even shatter through Wind Wall and Braum.

Windfall maybe. Unbreakable though...

Riot not skilled enough at programming to do this, besides, it would break all kinds of mechanics

I'm not entirely sure about this, I mean we had champions like Tahm and bard who both have mechanics that were considered impossible not so long ago.

I'm not sure what exactly it would break. I mean, an aniva wall does not break break the game either... So if temporarely generating terrain is no problem, I highly doubt that temporarely removing it would be a problem...

This would be a coding nightmare, but if pulled off would open up a whole ton of new options.

Well, I never said that it would be easy ^^ There will be a ton of bugs to fix, even if they pulled it off, but when they do it Graves would be a really unique champ that is more than just "Burst Damage Shotgun" ^^

What? That's impossible. Riot would never give his cigar back.

This gave me cancer. Yes, lets give the already incredibly strong adc the ability to break down terrain... Not even worth the coding and the endless bugs it would cause.

Do turrets and inhibitors count as terrain? (nexus too)

If you know where I'm heading here :^)

No, terrain is everything that does not have an HP Bar. Tower ruins would count I think... I'm not entirely sure, but that's how terrain is classified: you cannot walk on it + it limits vision + No HP bar (not nintended to be a terget of spells orginally)

If Graves gets to destroy landscape, then Naut has to be much bigger and his E has to knock things back. And Darius has to split people in half. Cho has to be REALLY big so he can visibly eat things while ignoring terrain or being able to eat terrain. Rengar when he R's should be able to ignore terrain. Fizz and Nami should get speed boosts when in the river. Nunu's R when used in the river also roots people since at least their feet are wet and are being frozen solid. Brand has to be immune to Annie's damage and ignite while also doing extra damage to Anivia, Trundle, and Lissandra. Braum's E should be permanent and deflect all damage since it's an unbreakable door, literally speaking. Brand should lose health in the river. Mantheon's crit animation should be a Sparta Kick that knocks an enemy back if they were to die from it and have the same affect as Lee Sin's R mixed with Sion's E on minions. Shyvanna's R should look more like the actual dragon on the map. Void beings like Kha'Zix should all get extra bonuses for baron's buff and should take more damage from people who have slain Baron since they know how to kill void beasts better. Kass should do increased damage to all void beings.

I can keep going if you want. :3

That's lore-wise mechanics right there, dude. This is more gameplay interactions.

This is a great idea. A coding nightmare definitely but it would definitely be interesting. The best part about this is that they could perhaps use Bard codes as examples on Graves. Bard has a lot of interaction with the terrain and if his ult functions as Magical Journey, but only on thin walls like Dragon Pit or Baron, or even the tri-bush walls, I'd love Graves.

SaltyToplaneGoat1 votes

Not sure HOW useful Bard's codes would be here.

Bard only uses the terrain as a) a collision point, which is nothing new and b) as a set entrance and exit point for his portal. Those skills never change the basic functionality of terrain. But maybe there are some lines of code they could use...

With Graves we would go into the temporary CHANGE of terrain into a field that can be walked through. I'd even go as far and count the walls on midlane river as suitable for this...
