Sej Question

I haven't played jg much in my League career. In fact, when I would get stuck with jg in my blind pick days, I would pick Katarina because jgs have to roam, so I'd stick item 3117 on her and just roam all day since I could barely take down any of the monsters until level 5-ish. (BTW Jungle Kat is totally viable in low elo. I had one of my best Kata games as jg.)

But recently I decided I needed to get an actual jg champ to actually learn the position. So I got Sejuani because I love the Freljord champs... and because of that sweet Russian bear skin.

I've been doing alright with her, even carried a few times. However, I have a question about her interaction with a certain item.

I build item 3022 for the hp and for the passive. Since Sej already has slows, I figured Mallet would just make it even more hellish for my enemies to escape my ganks. I've been doing alright so far, but I do want to know if the passive actually works on Sej. I'm concerned that Sej's passive might override Mallet's passive and all I'm actually getting is some tankiness and a practically useless +30 ad. Is this the case, or am I really getting slows for days like I intended?

I would recommend prioritizing CDR since Sejuani's already has a rather easy time sticking to targets.

I would generally consider Cinderhulk and Frozen Heart to be her core items and build situationally afterwards.

If you want more damage, Liandry's Torment or Abyssal Scepter are probably your best options.

^^ CDR is amazing on Sejuani. Liandry's would work well on her W as well. I might favor Abyssal myself for the tankyness and CDR. It'll also help your mages or AP assassins kill the backline. Liandry's is pretty good against tank lines.

Well I build a lot of cdr runes so there's only so much itemized cdr I need on top of that.

My usual build so far is something like item 1402 item 3111 item 3022 item 3068 item 3110 item 3116. Of course different situations = different builds, but that build is usually my initial goal.

I would recommend something along the lines of: item 3047 or item 3111 item 1409 item 3110 item 3151 item 3001 item 3143

Don't build both Rylai's Crystal Scepter and Frozen Mallet. The only ability Rylai's will proc on (which doesn't already have a stronger CC) is W and slows don't stack.

OK, makes sense to me!

Why green smite though?

Vision.

That is, I like wards.

I don't really need Stalker's Blade for CC or Skirmisher's Sabre for dueling on Sejuani, so neither of those are really necessary.

However, vision is always extremely useful.

If I place wards around an objective, I can see anyone coming to stop it and prepare accordingly.

If I place wards within their jungle, I can track the enemy jungler which allows me to take objectives elsewhere and my team to take advantage of his absence (if we see him doing Raptors, they can't be waiting in a bush to (counter-)gank a lane.

The strongest slow always overrites all other slows. So once you use your E, your E slow will overrite your Mallet slow. However, Mallet will still apply all the time outside of it. That being said, I don't think Mallet is going to be good for Sejuani. There are probably better items to get on her.

OK, thanks! I'll play around with it some more though. I have to be a hipster and say I was building Mallet Sej before it became meta, amirite? [slayer-jinx-wink]

Chamuel851 votes

Nothing wrong with experimentation that is for sure. However, Sejuani probably sticks to people easy enough already. :)

Hey there! I main Sej in the jungle actually, so hopefully I can be of some help :)

Frozen Mallet isn't too bad, but for Sej it ends up being kind of useless mid/late game. It's got great stats, but if you want that slow and some OOMF on damage I would actually suggest item 3116 instead.

Reason being is because when you initiate with your Q, you usually want your W charged and ready, so when you go in you get that easy AA to activate your W. Your W will apply Rylai's effect, so it acts as a second slow without even needing to use E.

Not to mention FM can be pointless on her unless you're prioritizing a bit of AS to proc it often.

Full build for her when I play varies, but here are some good examples of how I flex her:

item 3009 item 3117 are my usual candidates for boots. Swifties is if I need to roam faster, but the enemy has a decent amount of slows. Mobies are for faster roaming without having to worry about enemy CC.

item 3111 item 3047 are only used if the enemy team is AD or AP heavy. If they're split then I recommend sticking to the previous selections.

item 1401 is my preferred jungle item. Extra slow to ensure lockdowns, and having Cinder on your jungle item clears up your space since Cinder is amazing on her.

item 1401 item 3102 item 3143 item 3116item 3742 item 3009 - Generic example. Deadman's can be replaced for Aegis if the enemy team is AP heavy.

item 1401 item 3009 item 3151 item 3116 item 3083 item 3001 - AP bruiser build I've done that shits out amazing damage. ONLY DO THIS IF YOU'RE AHEAD AND HAVE OTHER TANKS IN YOUR TEAM!

If you want more examples of specific builds let me know. These are just generic and a for fun build I've done before :) I can give builds for specific team matchups as well.

She's honestly a lot of fun and is great for learning the jungle! So I hope you enjoy her a lot :D If you need mastery/Rune set up let me know and I can give you what I have as well~

PS: I don't worry too much about mana items because I don't rely on spamming her abilities in fights. Usually you won't need to worry about it unless the fight exceeds a minute or so. But by then you shouldn't be trying to fight :P Blue buff helps you in the early stages of the game, so usually I never worry about mana unless the fights become drawn out.

If you want a build that incorporates mana let me know too~ I can provide one as well :D

I'm surprised at all these responses. Am I the only one who builds Sunfire Cape?

Desolas Arterius2 votes

Sej is actually still pretty popular from what I've seen :) Not to mention she's suuuper fun to play!

Sunfire is okay, but not the best idea for Sej. It's better to have Cinderhulk on your Jungle item instead of using an item slot for that effect.

As a jungler, you're already down an item slot compared to your other laners (excluding supports), so it's best to make due with what you have at your disposal.

If you can make it work, than go for it! But I highly recommend avoiding Sunfire on her and getting the Cinderhulk enchant instead. More cost efficient and lets you build more tank/damage items instead. (Not to mention the stats on Cinderhulk enchantment are amazing for her!)

Hauling Ashe1 votes

Thanks! Makes sense to me I guess.

I'm still gonna try to make Frozen Mallet work cause I'm a stubborn Sejuani, but I'll look into Deadman's.

Why go Banshee's Veil when you're typically building tank? I know it blocks the initial spell so it can save you from being cc'd, but isn't it your job to get the enemy to focus you, so maybe something like Guardian Angel would be better? Also, I don't see frozen Heart in any of your builds when everyone else is recommending it.

Desolas Arterius2 votes

Hey whatever works for you :) I don't recommend it, but if you enjoy it then go for it.

Banshee's Veil is usually against CC heavy teams. If they have someone that can disrupt me from going in, I like having that extra buffer to prevent myself from getting locked down. The stats are also good in that situation (lots of health and MR), but it's not a for sure build every time. Abyssal is good regularly, and even spirit visage can work too. Aegis also works, though that's going away soon :(

Guardian Angel isn't that good on Sej. It's a waste of space since it offers no health and is pointless if you want the enemy to focus you. It's meant for champions that need to avoid being focused, but need an extra life in case a Rengar comes barreling down and poops on their face.

I rarely use Frozen Heart on her mostly because I don't have mana issues when I play her. Frozen heart is still good on her don't get me wrong, but I've played her so much that I'm not too worried about her mana regen :) If the enemy team is extremely AA and AD heavy (like 3 ADCS and a Yi) then I'll build it with Randuin's, but if they're mixed then I usually do Randuin's and Abyssal instead.

Like I said before, there is no cookie cutter build for her. But there are specific items to always keep in mind that can answer any situation you're in! Just always be sure to be flexible and learn what to build when :)

Hauling Ashe1 votes

Alright, I think I got it.

Scary question: How do you deal with Vayne? As an adc main, even I hate her, because I can punish her so badly during the laning phase but it feels like nothing I did to her actually mattered once we hit 30 minutes.

Desolas Arterius2 votes

For Sej, I usually wait until she's wasted her tumble before going in. I either bait her out of it or wait until she wasted it on a minion.

Q is a good way to bait her out of her tumble. Go in with Q (always make sure W is active!) and then after she tumbles I nail my ult on her. By then I'm already on top with my W going. If you have Rylai's it makes it harder for her to escape, or if you have Randuin's you pop it just before she breaks from your ult.

Once she's out you can use E to keep her trapped, and even Chill smite her if she continues trying to run.

However, you cannot 1v1 her, so make sure your team is aware of following up with your initiation.

Teammates like Yasuo, Zed, and other mobile carries work well with Sej's setups, so I usually try to play her with those champions. They can react quickly to your lockdowns, especially against a champion like Vayne who is slippery.

Don't ever try to just run at Vayne. She's meant to kite tanks, and even Sej can fall susceptible to that. It's best to bait her tumble out with your Q, or go in when she's not paying attention.

Having a Yasuo when you play as Sej are some of my favorite games. The synergy those two have is just a blast~ Which is why I'm glad my Fiance mains him :) We're quite a terrifying Yas/Sej combo~

Edit: Item wise Randuin is your friend against her. Frozen heart could also work since you would reduce her AS. But I mostly take Randuin's and Deadman's against a Vayne.

She's an ap tank ....mallet is for ad fighters....

Hauling Ashe1 votes

I know that. But +700hp is nothing to laugh at.

Killstrado2 votes

It kinda of is the best thing to laugh at when you can build a rylais

The frozen mallet shouldn't add extra slows to sejuani. Although One thing I've been using alot is item 3800 fly through teams like a racecar item 3152 because cdr health and damage why not :D and item 3158 and on the very low chance you may get a "kalista"Kalista Which can make you not only dive back line but then reappear and dive font lines or reposition for an amazing ultimate. Even though sejuani support isn't amazing Kalista + sejuani is just insane for team fight potentials Never really found sunfire to useful She needs to outburst the burst to proc storm raider's or she will just sit there and be slowed by ezreal and poked to death.

"kalista"Kalista

Never heard of this champ. Must be a top laner.
