Can the next support champion NOT be about dashing or being attached to your ADC

Seriously, is Riot running out of ideas?

Yuumi, Rakan and Braum all have mechanics which require them to "dash to their ADC" and put themselves in harms way. I find this mechanic endlessly annoying in League. When they reworked Taric they made him utterly useless without an ADC to be attached to and destroyed one of my favourite champions in the process.

The only new "support" and I use that word lightly who does not have this awful mechanic is Pyke and he's not really a support but an assassin with a tacked on "kill-share" mechanic on him.

I was excited for Yuumi because they looked really cool but as soon as I saw the "jumping to your ally" mechanic, I decided not to buy the champion. Too many supports do this and its a boring overused crutch. When will Riot give us a traditional support like Janna or Soraka (The latter with a heal that doesn't cause you to cut yourself to use) that is NOT dependent on being near your ADC so it can be played in multiple lanes.

When did variety in approaches, item builds, runes and lanes leave this game? You can see this so clearly with supports, which reworks have locked them into botlane or in the case of champions like Kayle, destroyed their ability to support all together.

Yes, because that is one of the biggest parts about being a support.

Shielding (which includes literal shielding in addition to projectile mitigation), healing, and hard CC are the three primary aspects of the support role as a whole. If you don't have one or more of those, you need a unique ability to keep you relevant in lane and maintain status as a viable pick.

Like Pyke, who for some reason you think isn't a support? He's got hard CC in the form of a stun, a hook for both engaging and disengaging, and an ultimate that duplicates kill gold to his allies, which is huge.

Also, you're wrong about him not "sharing this mechanic with other supports." As Pyke you want to take the brunt of the damage since you can regenerate it through your passive. If it doesn't run the risk of killing you (like a hard CC engage or hook into the enemy team) it's generally better to facetank those hits for your allies rather than letting them take it since you can't heal or shield them.

So while it's not directly latching to them, Pyke still facetanks just as those other champions would.

There are maybe 2 champions who currently have this "jumping to" mechanic. Braum and Rakan. You could maybe make the case that Tahm has it as well, but that's a bit of a stretch.

Yuumi makes it interesting because her entire kit revolves around that mechanic, unlike the other two. Yes, Rakan and Braum will jump to their teammates but in general they do it infrequently until very late in the game when their abilities are maxed out and they've got CDR.

Yuumi spends nearly 100% of her time latched to someone, empowering their abilities, empowering her ultimate, and generally complimenting both of their kits in ways which they otherwise wouldn't get.

I won't lie, Yuumi is a bit lackluster to me personally, but she's got a unique concept with some fun takes on peeling/supporting as a whole.
