Do These Changes Scream Nunu Support to Anyone Else?

TaoistMaster··21 votes·1,947 views

Games are more "snowbally" thanks to recent changes that enhanced adc's and their itemization.

So pick a support that can shut down the enemys ad while buffing the heck out of your own adc.

This is from someone that leveled to 30 playing Nunu support in Season 2.. So I am very much biased but I would love to have the yeti rider back bottom.

Nunu in bot lane:

"My snowballs are bigger than yours." xD

Been playin sup nunu a lot lately with decent success. Except for last night against this trynd. Exhaust, my E, the debuff from my ult, frozen heart, randuins, and even the fact that it was 4 vs 5 with his team having the 4.....wasn't enough to stop him. He can be shut down in lane but he's broken asf with just a few items in this preseason patch. But back to your point....yeah nunu is the real deal. I been doin my zombie thing in bot lane a lot lately.

As someone who played support Nunu at the beginning of season 5 when everyone played Jinx this is exactly how I feel.

Personally snowbally games aren't the best games for Nunu, actually him being able to basically give his ADC and extra item worth in AS makes him strong when behind, or that how I at least played him back in season 5. Maybe On Hit Koggles and support Nunu could be a really strong scaling lane

Clown Apocalypse1 votes

I pretty much just build him tank after the ap ward item. Maybe one other ap item if i'm doing pretty good and we're wrecking bot. I been taking him to deal with the trynds and yis I been getting lately. Pretty much I just try to be the biggest deterrent from diving my adc. Against Team comps that do a lot of autoattacking he's the shit. If only his ult wasn't so easy to interrupt. You can sneeze and stop that thing, but man oh man...if I get a full one off..... item 3070 item 3070

by that same reasoning, wouldn't this mean that the increased importance of ADC fighting as well as the rise of Graves... and reduced vision suggests that this is the prefect meta for ...

Teemo Teemo Teemo Support Teemo Teemo Teemo Teemo

Lugg2 votes

Support Teemo totally shuts down AA reliant ADCs. I have no idea why he isn't played more.

Anidan1 votes

Probably because the ADC isn't the only opponent Teemo has to worry about, and if they happen to bring someone like Braum support Teemo won't get to do much in general.

That's my guess at least, along with a lack of peel potential for the ADC, or any sustain, or any real support-y things beyond making it a kill lane.

Lugg1 votes

Braum actually gets dumpstered in that lane the first few levels. I always seem to kill him before level 4 as Teemo, which gets you ahead enough to basically negate him. Same with pretty much any tank support.

The shrooms are great peel if you place them right and the ADC is smart enough to retreat over them.

MetalGearTeemu1 votes

I think the primary issue is people building the Teemo incorrectly for the support role. You need to go down there with some tankiness, not just going AP like you're support Annie, Teemo actually enjoys very strong base damage because of his passive damage on E and can still contribute to support fights while going with tankier masteries and runes.

tankmo can still ward the map and provide peel for his precious ADC with spooky ghosts and a randuins pop, while providing a valuable target in his own right. because no one can resist targeting teemo. Global taunt is strongest taunt.

Nightshade171 votes

As advice, I'd recommend only really trying it against a Kalista, because literally all of her damage except her Q is from autos can't hit when you're blinded, loser

teemo actually shits all over vayne. always has.

They scream Zyra support to me! Really, any magey support loves the mana regen and gold buffs on item 3098 and the Deathfire Touch keystone. Brand, Vel'Koz, and Zyra are all fairly strong at the moment.

Plus, with the vision changes, Zyra's seeds are great for not face-checking bushes.

Lugg1 votes

I played against a Zyra support yesterday. She was a total wrecking ball. I think she finished the game leading her team in kills.

Kitten of Evil1 votes

Her big weakness was always how mana hungry she was. She's very safe in bot lane.

Are you real? Her laning phase is basically holding a huge sign saying "free 300 gold here",as long as your enemies know what they are doing.

Overall FQC line buffs were good for here,tp nerfs and rift herald also good for her, buff to adcs early bad for her, nerfs to the rest of her itemization(most support items weren't hit as hard as mage items, and zyra builds mage items) bad for her, nerfs to trinkets and sightstone bad for her, mastery changes seem to benefit tanks and utility supports more,so bad for her as well.

Unless you're relying on your opponents not reading the sign you are holding,I guess she could be good, otherwise do what everyone else does and go with brand.

I'll have to disagree with you on that, but that's fine. People can have different opinions of champions.

I'll have to disagree with you on that, but that's fine. People can have different opinions of champions.

Sort of,it's just that these opinions tend to converge in the higher elos.

I mean I could possibly be wrong,it's just highly unlikely considering other opinions I've heard,I mean she could possibly make sense in lower elos, but I see no reason for brand not to be a whole lot better there as well.

More reliable CC that can hit multiple enemies and isn't minion-blockable? The ability to check bushes without face-checking them, using her seeds? Minions that can zone enemies and also proc Liandry's and Rylai's without further expending mana? An ultimate that knocks up enemies and will damage everyone in its range rather than relying on RNG bounces?

I mean honestly the only similarity is that both of them are squishy mages and both scale better with magic penetration than with flat AP. Otherwise they bring different things to the table. Brand brings more damage, sure. But that's all he brings (aside from his situational Q stun). Zyra brings more utility and less damage. She sort of fits between a Brand/Vel/Annie kill lane and a Janna disengage lane. She could be stronger, but Brand could also be weaker in a support role. I'd be surprised if they don't make some changes to him in that capacity.

Anyway, no need to be a elo snob. But I guess it worked in that it baited a response from me.

That said - how does Deathfire Touch fare with Zyra? I've seen Brand and Malz do unspeakably disgusting things with it - as well as Anivia/Swain to a certain extent - but I haven't seen Zyras lately.

Death fire scales very hard with ap,probably not the greatest mastery for supports(except dot mages),there's thunderlords, but was the bug with it fixed yet?

I like it mid but it wasn't hugely noticeable as a support. The ratio compared to the base is a problem considering Zyra doesn't build huge amounts of AP no matter what her role really.

Secured a couple of kills I wouldn't have got otherwise mid though.

More reliable CC

Offensively yes,but they both have poor pick potential compared to most supports, defensively brands q is faster.

that can hit multiple enemies and isn't minion-blockable?

is also soft cc(immobilization),and half the duration for a large portion of the game.

The ability to check bushes without face-checking them, using her seeds?

Unfortunately it's a big issue for both of them,as her facechecking range short enough for it to be rather ineffective against most ambushes, brand can still scare enemies with a longer range w,but that isn't too effective either.

Minions that can zone enemies and also proc Liandry's and Rylai's without further expending mana?

So does brand's passive, and he doesn't need to auto attack to make use of that.

An ultimate that knocks up enemies and will damage everyone in its range rather than relying on RNG bounces?

Yes in all out fights her ult is stronger, brand is stronger in skrimshes, and it's not entirely RNG,as you just need to make use of your passive.

I mean honestly the only similarity is that both of them are squishy mages and both scale better with magic penetration than with flat AP. Otherwise they bring different things to the table.

Well most people seem to obsess with zyra's damage,if you're not one of those, nami is better in every way(though she's rather subpar herself, unlike brand).

Brand brings more damage, sure. But that's all he brings (aside from his situational Q stun). Zyra brings more utility and less damage. She sort of fits between a Brand/Vel/Annie kill lane and a Janna disengage lane.

Zyra isn't disengage, zyra is counter-engage,there's a big difference and it is essentially why zyra is dead for competitive+high elo play.

She could be stronger, but Brand could also be weaker in a support role. I'd be surprised if they don't make some changes to him in that capacity.

Could he really? Would it really make sense to nerf a champion who doesn't seem to be a problem in competitive nor in higher elos? I mean on one hand you see all these "mundo is fine, you just need to git gud and itemize properly" threads, but in cases like brand where it's obvious he has weaknesses and that good players don't fear him too much(he's strong, but not more than that),suddenly we ask for nerfs?

Yes,their lategame is pretty different, but they have different strengths and weaknesses in there, but as far as laning goes(which is crucial for a support),brand has bigger range, better mana costs, higher base damages, higher base stats, more reliable poke and scarier defensive abilities, meaning he is a lot stronger both offensively and defensively, and since he doesn't fall late either, creates a much stronger support(who still has some issues).

Anyway, no need to be a elo snob. But I guess it worked in that it baited a response from me.

I love how people complain about credentials,I've seen lower elos tell so many wild stories about the state of zyra, they are pretty much never right, meanwhile the higher elos are generally right(for example, while people were busy suspecting zyra might be seen in worlds due to her buffs,I said that hell would freeze over first),I simply understand the flow of bot lane better than you(and so do my friends) and know how to both make use of weaknesses and strengths better, people should really start treating experience and knowledge as something which carries weight.

I actually played nunu support a few days ago...... it was pretty cool B) and I got my adc to snowball, I reduced the enemy adc's attack speed to a near absolute zero ......

I'll just kick myself out now

No but seriously it's pretty decent atm, like it's been all seasons

Nunu support?!

Motherfucker play full AP Nunu all day every day. Bust your enemies balls by throwing item 3110 at their faces for 1200 magic damage each, on a fairly low cooldown. Insta-penta all teamfights by channeling your ult. Heal for 90% of your HP with just 2 levels in your Q. Full AP Nunu works everywhere as long as you have the mana to sustain firing your snowballs.

Now go ahead and make that fucking kiddo regret the day they decided to lane vs Nunu!

At first I was like

How the hell is Nunu going to be doing 1k damage with snowball by buying frozen heart

Then it clicked

(Jokes aside, my dude, maybe you should've used summoner 32 instead. xD)

I'm not sure that taking Nunu into the bottom lane is completely necessary for Nunu's team.

Obviously Nunu has so much utility for both enabling and countering ADC's, but you can don't have to go support to deal with them. Nunu support will be extremely effective, but as a jungle main who first learned the jungle playing Nunu it makes a lot more sense for me to take him into the jungle for a similar effect.

Borbland1 votes

Lets go play Trundle/Trynda support and go steal all that AD :3

manbearswine1 votes

This could be a good argument for jungle nunu, who will give you the same benefits without the lackluster laning phase.

But support nunu? ...no.

King Mugiwara1 votes

I have friends who have seen a good amount of attention from him in platinum and diamond games.

Z Statistic1 votes

I'm trying to remember the context of S2 supports. Nunu was very popular for Vayne and Kog comps, but as the season approached worlds, it boiled down to Taric-Graves bromance or LeonaxGraves ship because Graves-Corki-Ezreal was the holy trinity of ADC. Then Sona got buffed, Taric got nerfed, and it shifted the whole paradigm to Sona vs Blitz.

The introduction of Thresh and Nami made all-in supports much more dangerous, but the funny bit was that Lulu got the huge amazing thing of AP ratios on her utility, which catapulted her to the best support of preseason 3 and early season 3. Then it turned into a burst lane and has remained that way for a very long time since kite supports like Lulu and Zyra require some amount of farm to function mid-game, more farm than Leona and Thresh require to tank.

Kite supports include Nunu in this case. He can shut down people early on, but once mid game goes around, chucking snowballs doesn't really work a well as it did unless you REALLY won your lane (which is usually a skill difference and not anything because of Nunu).

And let's get real: AS slows don't destroy ADC in general anymore. It destroys Vayne, Kog, and Caitlyn. It does nothing vs Graves or Lucian, and it mildly inconveniences MF. Corki DGAF now, and Ez shouldn't even be in range to get snowballed in the first place. The introduction of Reaver really undermines the generic value of AS slows. Crit reduction is more ubiquitous now.

TaoistMaster1 votes

Nunu was used in worlds season 2 as a support.

Z Statistic1 votes

so was Lulu. So what? The whole dynamic about dealing with Sona and Blitz. Sona sets up the korean wombos easily. Blitz is good for picks. Both Lulu and Nunu were picked because they could help their ADC outmanuever Sona and Blitz in lane.
