I've just decided to pretend that the old lore still exists. Riot can't take that away from me.

Why are they fighting in Super Smash Bros?

League of Legends the game is separate from the lore. Some games integrate their gameplay and story (basically the game is the story), and some games segregate their game and story.

I get it, we used to have that integration but Riot forcibly separated it. But other games do it, and there's nothing wrong with it.

A proper answer to your gf's question would be, "It's basically a battle arena for legendary warriors, and I am a summoner that is controlling them. The lore, the stories of which they are born in, are completely separate from the game. It's kind of like Super Smash Bros, because realistically Samus wouldn't be fighting Bowser in a Metroid game."

What does the old lore say?

I was told (could very well be inaccurate) that SR was used to settle arguments/disagreements/war/etc for each of the nations. They would have their representative (champions) fight for their purpose, whatever it may be.

I actually am curious if this is correct or not. If not, what was the real reason behind it all.

MAJOR EDIT: I am really bad with lore, sorry lol. Just wanted to point out that some joined just for destruction. I didn't think i'd be downvoted for being wrong :l thanks to the people who tried to actually help fix my mistakes <3 rather then just hate it right away for being wrong

I'm still trying to figure out what Summoners are now in relation to Summoner's Rift and why we summon stuff to fight in the first place. Maybe I missed it somewhere, but what is the point of summoning?
