Can We Have More VERY Different Champions?

I think we are at a point in champion creation to where every new champion is going to feel familiar to someone else UNLESS they do something drastically different. I was wondering if we could start to create champions that push boundaries as far as what can be done in champion design. A lot of other popular MOBAs have very complicated and different champions in their cast, such as Dota 2's Techies, Meepo, Tinker, Broodmother, Io, and Rubick. In Heroes of the Storm, there are Cho'Gall, Abathur, The Lost Vikings, Falstad, and Azmodan. In League of Legends, we don't have hardly any champions that play drastically different from others. We have Ivern and Singed, and then the list becomes arguable.

I think we need to start pushing boundaries on what we think is impossible. We need to start breaking boundaries even. What can be made into a champion? What can't? How could we make something that can't into something that can? We need different, and we need it ASAP preferably.

Add Bard to that, and the fact that picking these champions automatically nets you the label of 'troll' for whatever reason... Teammates are rarely happy to have these champions on their team.

Pushing boundaries comes with a LOT of risk.

Anything without a little bit of risk is usually not worth doing in the first place or won't have too much of an impact on the game.

Trust me: You wouldn't want Cho'gall style champs here, as it would lead to infighting. Well, more infighting than usual. Not only that, Abathur, if not used by a really good player, is next to useless, in my experience. Lost vikings is incredibly hard, and would screw up a lot of how league is built. They're creative, sure, but they owuldn't fit well into league.

I think people are just afraid that DIFFERENT champions would be hard to play and sometimes make them lose games. However, the same can be said for any remotely hard champion.

Hey, I play abathur in heroes of the storm. I'm not unopen to difficult champs, I'm just not open to the idea of, say, a champ where one player drives and gets abiliites and the other just gets abilities. It's not super fun for one of htem, and it takes a ton of coordination.

To be fair, champions don't need to be hard to be different. 2 of the top 3 different champions in the game (Singed, Ivern, Bard) are not really hard to play.

Fair point.
