Virtually every world's team has the exact same team comp

What happened to playing split pushers top or assassin junglers? What happened to supports like Thresh, and Alistar?

Here is every world's draft in a nutshell:

Top - Some hard engage/CC tank. Usually Trundle, Cho'Gath, Maokai, or J4.

Jungle - Some random hard engage/CC tank like Gragas, Sejuani, or J4.

Mid - Maybe Ryze, maybe Cassiopeia, maybe Syndra, probably Corki. Who cares it's not like mid even matters right now anyways?

ADC - Random hyper carry like Twitch, Kog'maw, Xayah, or Tristana.

Support - Best possible ardent abuser.... Janna, Lulu, Rakan, or Taric in that exact order.

Didn't Riot say they wanted more diversity in pro games? Is this what they call diverse?

I actually tend to disagree in term of Champion-Diversity.

  • JGL We've seen Kha, Ezreal, Elise, Lee Sin, NOCTURNE(best game this year!) and DMG-Reksais being picked besides the traditional Cinderhulk users.
  • Top also had some diversity always tanky though but not necessarily dedicated Tanks. Rumble is a worlds-thing though.
  • ADC is as expected. Typical Worlds picks. But hey we got Varus - that is new.
  • Supp - some might argue boring - but I actually like it. Basicly the entire 'Support'-Roaster seems pickable. Sure Janna and Lulu are favorites - but others can be picked as well. We had a Thresh if I remember correctly. And we definitely had an Ali.

What really bothers me is Mid. Lucian Corki Syndra + Ryze Ori Cassio Kassa (Typical Worlds Champs). And a random Faker-Fizz.

And mid doesnt have any major unbalances - basicly anyone able to build a Morelleo should be fine... but zero diversity here.

However... there's although Comp-Diversity... and this is.. well... Nearly every single Comp works the same - and that's why they look like the same when they're actually not - build around your Carry outscale you opponent and win. Sure some comps are more agrressive... aka scale a LITTLE less hard for a slightly better early but in the end.. it's still a scaling comp since all this early has the sole purpose to feed the AD more gold to reach said late a little faster.

And that's really annoying.

It's funny... (or sad) in riots attemp to make game shorter for more 'fun' E-Sports they just kill any strategic diversity existing and make the game more boring and even LONGER!

Never looked at it that way, but sure. Why even bother building an Early-Game-Comp if early lasts for 5 Minutes.... you can't possibly gain enough advantage to win in THAT time! x'D

All.. I'm worried about now is that they try to reach their 20 minutes dream games by force...

They made the mistake of not hotfixing ardent censer for worlds. Well at least it shows to everyone how retarded botlane is rn, and hopefully we won't see a 100% botlane-centric meta next season.. But I doubt it. It can't come without a general nerf to adc's base stats, itemization and/or support itemization.

It's sad, I had good hopes for this year when they buffed a bunch of offmeta champs like Nasus but well yeah...

Damn I got hyped at that pick \o/ let's hope it's not the only pick we will see outside of the big meta picks

It just goes to show how stubborn the boards are to adapting to the game. Khan said in an interview after the game that he found Nasus to be a strong counterpick to Maokai after seeing it in another game in the LCK. There's many more possibilities in this game than "ADC meta" but the circle-jerk of these boards refuses to consider any of them and wants to just be able to play anything anywhere in any situation, essentially making every champion the same. There's still many interesting and "non-meta" picks and comps that are viable, but only creative people will uncover them. The boards are sheep and will never acknowledge that they're there.

He was also picked because of the Attack Speed slow in Wither. It wasn't just because he had a good lane against Maokai, but he also provided upfront burst and directly cut the enemy carry's damage output if he got close enough, while still being a reliable front liner.

The guy also got around 400 stacks in 20 minutes. So he REALLY KNOWS how to play Nasus.

If Ardent were to be hotfixed before worlds the entire meta in competitive would shake up and undergo a major change.

They've been playing under THE Ardent meta for months, forcing them to change strategy overnight would fuck them over. Too much trouble, might as well change that after worlds patch.

Don't get me wrong here, I'm not a fan of competitive play or the Ardent meta either, but that's gonna be their reasoning.

its funny because a lot of the "variety" you suggested is stuff that people complained about being in literally every worlds game for the last 6 years while a lot of the ones you listed like trundle and ryze were flat out nonexistent

Trundle

  • Two years ago, was contested as a support pick for his ability to counter Sivir, pick off immobile carries, and make a tank temporarily useless.
  • Somewhat frequently picked toplane because tanks can't hold a lane against him.

Ryze

  • Has been a common pick every year since Riot started the wave of Ryze reworks, and wasn't exactly a troll pick before that.

His pillar usually means a kill on any immobile carry without flash if it can be followed up on.

His ult means that the enemy team has one less tank in teamfights, and they have to send specific people to the sidelane to deal with his split push.

In groups so far, he's been picked 3 times and banned 4.

ok as someone who LOVES trundle and plays him top more than maybe any other top laner thats a big exaggeration of his power, although yes he is very strong. tbh im sad that people are finally realizing that i was loving the freelo on my ghost exhaust trundle

The beauty of Trundle against tanks is that he doesn't even have to push them out of lane to counter them in teamfights. He basically wins against them without really doing anything. It doesn't get any safer than that when it comes to counterpicking.

Diversity at the highest level of play is next to impossible without destroying solo queue. The highest level of player will use THE best strategy and only that. If they use anything but the best, they are way less likely to win. Thats not true for any other level of play, where mistakes and uncoordinated play overshadows slightly weaker champions and team comps.

It's no coincidence that the teams favoured to win do anything but this strat while teams like C9 pick graves. It's cute but they will never win worlds with shit like that

The Yetii Rider1 votes

The diversity is not in the champions played. It's what each pro player chooses to do with the champion they pick.

i cant move wtf1 votes

Yeah, GAM didn't crush FNC with a nocturne slingshot comp.

Zone of Endless1 votes

That's to be expected. It happen every year where pro will pick the safest and most effective pick. Next year we might have different champions being picked, but it will the same one every games and we'll have the same complaints about no diversity in pro play.

Is this the first pro tournament you've ever seen? The variety is actually pretty decent if you consider all the roles.
