I stopped playing a little after season 7, played a little in season 8. I like support a lot and used to play kennen/vel'koz a lot and was just wondering where they sit at for support in the current meta. Are they still able to do it?
Kennen isnt played support much anymore. Vel'koz is still a power house pick and is recommended for solo queue buy pro analysts like LS.
To be honest, it would be interesting to see some off meta supports like Kennen again. He is not picked much at all nowadays which leaves people, especially non top people, in a very bad spot. If you get it going again expect there to be cries for nerfs like they did for Viktor top.
Although, also do not be too surprised if your team decides to ban it had many people do this just so that I could not try Sett support. It could be an idea to play him with some duos first so you can get a feel for him again before trying with a random ADC..... I say this because I picked sett support one game and my adc kept telling me i was useless and that he was doing all the work blah blah blah.... fact is, even the velkoz support and caitlyn adc of the enemy team were like "yeah we were playing passive because every time we tried to do anything else you were rushing at us." Which is exactly his job if used as a support.... look for openings (which Velkoz has some clear openings) and charge in.
So, beware showing who you plan on picking before ban phase.
Vel'koz is a decent poke mage support right now. I have never heard of kennen sup, so idk about that one.
Mages are playable, but just flat out not as good as engage supports or enchanters in the role.
u can potentially bait out the mid lane pick with it if u first pick it.i still main velkoz support and most trouble i have is all the assassins that always get played,more so than any engage support,fizz,talon=instant death for me if caught out
