Why does tenacity stack multiplicatively?

Champion.gg - Dr. Mundo Top Stats, Builds, Runes, Masteries and Counters

Adding to my many posts about this champion and why Dr.Mundo he's one of the worst champions in the game, I've just found another reason for it. Tenacity stacks multiplicatively: http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Named_item_effect#Tenacity

Meaning that Mercury Threads or Elixir of Iron are having far less efficiency (because Mundo's W grants tenacity too). The only champion that relies on tenacity as much is Dr.Mundo, I really don't see a reason for tenacity not to stack additively. Then he finally might get some value out of his kit and move from being one of the worst top laners in the game (50th by win rate) despite being suited for that role.

additive tenacity stacking would pretty obviously be broken Press W for literal immunity to stuns and snares. Yes, this is a good idea.

You do realize that this guy already has around 50% tenacity with mercs and W level 5, and still is 50th worst win rate out of all 57 even remotely possible top laners? https://www.champion.gg/champion/DrMundo

Yep, you saw it right. Even being cc immune wouldn't change his utility, damage, or usefulness (uselessness) in any shape or form.

What utility?

The Cane Master1 votes

Exactly, he has none.

50% and 100% tenacity are very different (more different even than 0% and 50%, but that's beside the point)

I won't argue against mundo getting a buff, but giving him a permanent olaf ult is not the way to do it

Snares are not reduced by tenacity.

Reikken1 votes

This is false, but I am interested in seeing how you came to that conclusion.

The definition of Tenacity shown in game does not mention snares, however after looking at the wiki I see that it does all but Stasis and Airborne effects such as Knockbacks, Knockups and Pulls.

Snare isn't a term in League of Legends anymore. It used to refer to Ryze's rune prison, and is the same classification as a root, but they've since changed the wording on abilities that used the term snare due to people confusing it with slows.

It stacks multiplicatively because, if it didn't, you could become nearly immune to CC. Back when there were other tenacity items, you would have been able to get over 100% tenacity if it was additive.

Mundo's only bad because his early game is weak (so he loses lane to basically everyone, is denied farm, and aggressive opponents will often kill him before he reaches level 6) and the grievous wounds effect exists when he's so dependent on healing. If you can make it through the early game, and the other team doesn't build any healing reduction items or use ignite on you, he's actually one of the strongest champions in the late game.

Lol yeah, at least two ignites each game, and 800g worth of item that any ad based top laner (pretty much anyone in the meta atm) can use and deny 50% of your passive+ultimate using autos, or even ranged spells. http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Executioner's_Calling

If Executioner's Calling worked only on autos, Mundo's win rate would maybe be somewhat better, MAYBE being the key word here.

My point was that the counter build items/ignite were too strong of counters to him, which prevents him from being viable. If they nerfed/removed the grievous wounds effect and rebalanced healing, Mundo would actually be pretty good. Maybe a buff to his hp at level 1 to make his early game a bit better is warranted as well, but his late game is fine as is. His damage with no items to increase it is among the highest in the game, and his ult/passive make him scale better with defensive items than almost any other character.

There's no need to make CC any weaker against him, especially considering how little effect CC that's affected by tenacity he already suffers. Generally speaking, CC that's affected by tenacity isn't all that great when used against tanks unless it has a super long duration, is chained, and/or is combined with burst and focus. It's the knock ups and displacement, which are entirely unaffected by tenacity, that cause issues for tanks, particularly those like mundo where regular CC doesn't matter much anyway because of how tanky they are.

If the other team doesn't build resistances they deserve to lose bronzes.... he's good late game IF no one counter builds lol

Why was I down voted cause this exactly supports my idea that mundo is not OP.... If you counter build it's so easy

asamu1 votes

he's good late game IF no one counter builds

That's exactly what I said... Even with the counter items, his late game is decent. The problem is that his early game is awful and the grievous wounds effect is too strong. If they don't counter build, he's broken tier late game, but is otherwise about average.

"Hey guys let's give Mundo Olaf's ult except all the time late game" lmao.

Good bait mate.

The reason is Irelia . He passive+mercury+iron elixir game her 80%CC reduction, combined with her already high tankiness build and her somewhat reliable mobility and damage made her way too broken. Since most champion don't have buidl in tenacity they changed to stack multiplicative so it woudl only affect her greatly
