Ekko's slow is TOO DAMN HIGH

Ekko

It's a multi target piercing slow, that scales with ranking, ranging from 32 to a whooping 60% slow. I'm not even mentioning that it can apply 2 stacks of his passive to multiple targets, but I think that these numbers are just too high. Give it a flat 40% slow and it'd be alright.

I would be a suitable nerf. Ekko just has to much cc in his kit for an assasin. It's also one of the reasons why tank ekko is so abusive.

Ekko is designed to be a skirmishing assassin, that's why he has much less up front damage than other assassins. He was made to provide more utility than other assassins while still holding the assassin nature.

It Hertz When IP5 votes

We have skirmishing assassins. They're called bruisers.

But seriously, the whole design concept is a fail. There are assassins and there are fights/bruisers, trying to make a hybrid is a doomed concept that is nigh impossible to balance.

deadlychuck25 votes

this fucking overloaded broken ass champions has 3 fucking slows in his kit for no fucking reason. Despite being an assassin, he's also given an aoe stun, and two forms of damage mitigation between the shield and his ult.

Seriously it's like riot was trying to make this champion as overloaded with shit in his kit as possible

EvilRabbitt3 votes

Riot Boss: Alright developers. I want you to make me something wacky. Something strong. Something so impossible to balance that YEARS from now people will refer to it as broken. And then we will balance it.

Riot Employee: But sir. Shouldn't we be reasonable?

Riot Boss: Nope. Players want excitement and fun.

Riot Employee: Alright sir. Here's Ekko.

Riot boss: BRILLIANT!

I'd say that Lee hasn't been THAT bad for a while now.

deadlychuck1 votes

yeah, a little less than a year, he came out 5 years ago, and defined the jungle for at least 3 of those.

HeadHonchkrow1 votes

well, Lee was underpowered on release, or am I wrong

deadlychuck1 votes

No you're correct, which is why i said 3/5 years, and the last 1/5 was this past year. Prior to that he was pretty weak.

HeadHonchkrow1 votes

I can't basic math today.

deadlychuck1 votes

basically for a little over a year after release lee was a nonissue, they made some massive changes within his kit, then they refused to nerf him for 3 years. About a year ago the rest of the game caught up to him, so now he isn't as influential anymore.

ModAcademy Kayn1 votes

You act like he has Zed levels of burst, with Talon levels of lack of counterplay.

deadlychuck5 votes

No i don't think that, unless you're including his ult damage in his burst in which case he probably has more.

That said, i'd argue you've gotten that whole thing backwards, zed's of counterplay and talon level of burst. He has aoe, but also a 4 sec rewind with a heal, just to be sure you can't punish him.

Honestly the whole thing seems to be a problem with how riot approaches this type of "assassin/fighter or fighter/assassin" champion design. They almost inevitably end up making a champion who is good at prolonged fights and is somewhat durable (fighter aspect), and then also has massive burst potential and safety w/ mobility (assassin aspect). At which point i've just got to ask, where is the counter play to something like that?

They want blatant counter play for champions like sol, but then just give these assassin/fighters the best of both classes, and sometimes even kits of mages Ekko Zed Talon then act like they're fairly designing the champions.

ModAcademy Kayn2 votes

Well, people need to remember that exact statement. He doesn't have burst at early levels unless you get hit by his ult. To do his damage, he actually has to come up to you, in melee range, for an auto or two, then he runs away. He can be punished during that time, because his E is on CD.

Next thing, the reason people are/was building Tank Ekko, is because Ekko sucks at prolonged fights. If he's going full AP, he'll only have a ROA with an Abyssal/Zhoynas to try to stay in a fight. In a teamfight, do you really think that an AP Ekko is going to stay near a target and auto them a bunch of times? No, they try to proc their passive, run around and try not to die until his E or Q CD is back up, and look for good Ult opprotunities.

Final thing about Ekko, if Ekko uses his ult to get out of a tough situation, how is that any different than any other ultimate in the game? Sion's use their ult to escape ganks, Malphites Ult can be used to run away, Shyvanna's ult can, and the list continues. If they blow their ult as an escape, use that opportunity to go agro at them in lane. You can literally see when Ekko doesn't have his ult up, so take advantage!!

deadlychuck1 votes

lol well with zed his advantage despite being melee, is that his damage from auto attack trading increases as he builds damage for his abilities. So after the first recall, you can safely assume he will probably return to lane able to easily out trade you.

On the last bit though. The difference is that Sion, Shyv, Malph DON'T HEAL. And while most ults in the game do tend to have some form of CC or Mobility attached to them. The champion's kit is often designed to use their ult as part of their rotation, where ekko's seems to be designed to be saved for the most opportune time to escape or maybe burst.

Here's where you're statement falls flat. If Ekko uses his ult to retreat from a fight, he heals back a portion of the damage and a flat amount on top of that. If the fight remains in the same area he might land a massive chunk of damage to top it off. Ekko is punished by sustained damage champions, but as an assassin counters sustained damage. His ult actually counters both high burst and low burst, high burst gets eaten and heal, where low burst gives his hologram time to catch up and burst the target, unless the fight is moving, but... he is given 3 slows, MS and a total 650 dash range.

Simply put, ekko is broken because he is given a tool for every situation, where other champions are missing such tools. It's literally a case of the new lee sin. He will forever be impossible to balance, because riot will refuse to removing any of the utility from his kit (thank god for that AS removal on E) all the while failing to properly weigh utility and power. Riot will then struggle to ever bring his #s down enough that he is still relevant, but not broken. If we're lucky we will not have to wait 4-5 years again.

ModAcademy Kayn1 votes

That part about Sion, Shyv, Malph, the heal doesn't matter in my comparison. I simply used them as decent examples of people using an Ult for an escape instead of agro. The next part isn't a great example either of what you said. An ult doesn't have to be a part of their rotation, because people will always use an ult, or any ability really, to maximize potential.

A Darius waits till someone has 5 stacks on them, or is executable, to use his ult. He doesn't simply pop his ult after he E,W,Q's or whatever his combo order is. A Garen doesn't ult a full HP Target. A Shaco doesn't ult immediately after Ambushing in, nor would Karthus Ult before dying. Different champs have different Win conditions, and Ekko's ult win condition is running around an enemy till either he ults for the health and safety, or he ults for the damage. Saying that an ability can only be combat focused is one sided and biased honestly, when other champs have that decision.

deadlychuck1 votes

i'm not even saying it should be combat focused. It's that his kit is given no holes. His ult heals him and deals damage.

So many of the mechanics in his kit are designed around mitigating punishment for mistakes. Shield and stun for diving in, ranged poke for being out pressured, heal for getting out traded.

ModAcademy Kayn1 votes

But very rarely do you get the perfect opportunity to get both at max value, unless, the Ekko player knows what the fuck he's doing, to have strafed around you long enough to be at low health, and for you to be in his Ult damage spot.

Sheild and Stun for predicting where his opponent is going to be literally 3 seconds ahead of time!! Unless you stand in the same spot for three seconds, or just watch him use the animation in front of you, it's hard to land.

Range Poke? Ya mean the easy to dodge from afar Q? Not even to mention that his Q has a hell of a wind up time, giving you plenty time to go left or right.

Lastly, you know what trading means right? Ekko isn't going to blow an ult just to heal a bit from a trade. His ult is only used to secure kills, or escape a bad situation, and when that ult is down, it's got a fricking long ass CD. Utilize that time to punish him!

deadlychuck1 votes

That's exactly what i'm saying though, even if you fail to get maximum value, you are still getting value from it. If a malph missed his ult he gets 0 value from it. Ekko can miss the damage of his ult, use it as an escape and still get value from having used it.

Because it's so difficult to predict an enemy's path when you're in lane and you hard engage onto them. It's actually really simple, if you can beat them they run back, if they feel they can beat you they fight in place (there is generally no reason to waste time and damage moving), if they need to kite you to beat you then they can't because of his 2 slows, dash, and MS steroid.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not saying his Q is hard to dodge, but because of the long duration he completely zones you off from an area for a good 2/3 seconds. If you're melee then it would be much harder to dodge, because of minion block limiting your potential evasion.

You clearly don't understand what kind of trades i'm talking about, i'm referring to the kind of trades that pretty much only exist in the current game. Not the old trades that were small 10-15% of your HP skirmishes. I'm talking about the 70-80% of each person's max health. In which case healing for so much actually punishes the enemy for having traded evenly.

Again, the problem with ekko's design is that he has ways to mitigate punishment for misplays. Something other champions simply don't have.

It Hertz When IP2 votes

To be fair and play the devil's advocate, his stun requires him to charge in in order to trigger. I don't think they should have given it the slow, though.

deadlychuck1 votes

i agree that's what it was my 2nd suggestion not my first. I don't think his stun is broken, because of the delay, but i do think that his W in overall has no weaknesses. If he doesn't stun you, he still might slow you and get a shield. Then the passive is just free damage.

ModAcademy Kayn1 votes

Every passive is free damage? It's why its called a Passive.

deadlychuck1 votes

Clearly. The reason i call it "free" though is because even without it, the skill is a solid skill. Riot just tacked the extra damage onto an ability that has nothing to do with auto attacking.

This is the kind of shit that i don't understand with riot, they give champions what's effectively multiple passives by adding a passive effect like this onto another ability that has no reason to have such an effect attached. Unless you have a thematic or mechanical explanation for why his W should have such a passive attached.

Then proceeded to kill me from 100%-0% in a combo at level 6. This was yesterday...

Also, I was right at my turret.. trying to escape but THE SLOW.. and I burned flash too.

Nasus's slow is too damn high and it's a perm slow, no one cries about that tho and it's like a 90% point and click while Ekko's is somewhat more skill involved.

Also, Ekko needs to slow you obviously, or he won't be able to kill you even if he was to blink. So if they ever decide to nerf the slow, I expect some major damage buffs for his Q so he can do as much damage as a Ahri Q, or Zed Q.

Anyhow, nasus is worse, and Nasus does even more damage.

Nasus also has a shitball early game with literally no damage. But I'll happily indulge your Bronze 3 ignorance for a minute or two and compare wither with timewinder.

Wither costs 80 mana at level 1 and has a cooldown of 15 seconds that drops by 1 each second. Level 1 Timewinder costs only 50 mana and has a 9 second cooldown. Ekko also consistently levels up timewinder while nasus has to stay at level 1 wither otherwise his Q stacks will suffer greatly or his E won't allow him to zone out aggressive enemies effectively and will just be a waste of mana.

Wither deals absolutely no damage and is very weak at the onset. A withered enemy can simply walk away for a few seconds and come back into lane the same as before. Timewinder deals damage, and has the capability of dealing more than double damage if it hits the enemy coming back. It also applies a stack of ekko's passive whereas wither does not give nasus HP (nasus' passive is AA reliant).

With that being noted, it's funny that you say this "Ekko needs to slow you obviously, or he won't be able to kill you..."

No shit, and guess what, nasus needs to slow you, because he is complete freaking melee outside of his E (and his E is a very mana inefficient way to poke). And Nasus doesn't have the luxury of being able to blink up to enemies.

My job here is finished, provided you don't continue with your outrageous comparisons and arguments.

Also Fizz has a slow which is practically uneeded

Lol. Ekko is banned all the time in high elo. Probably the most banned along with Kindred. And Fizz isn't even played that often at all, and when he is, he isn't played as a tank. No idea where you are getting your info from but it's wrong lol.

Your statistics is pathetic, I already knew what you would say before even reading through the comment. I never understand why you guys do this? It's hilarious. Instead of the traditional grammar nazi's and stuff, when it comes to league, you got the "lets see his rank" specialist.

http://www.lol-mmr.com/profilev2.php?summoner=the%20best%20ev3r%20na&region=na Yesterday, I was better than 20% of the Silver 1 players, my MMR was putting me with constant golds/plats. Today it says Silver 2 cause I dropped a couple games, but none the less, a B3 beating the crap out of golds? Yeah that's me.

Also, I havent really even played ranked since the whole DQ came out. I tried it for maybe a day, and kept being put against premades and you wonder why I lost? Should be pretty obvious.

Also, this isn't my only account, but it's ok, you were probably carried to whatever rank you are lol.. In fact, I know you were carried, but not gonna go do a statistic check :)

Also, Ekko is not top 3 in plat and up, there was a statistic chart about 3 or 4 days ago I saw that got posted from all divisions. Ekko's mainly being banned in bronze. In plat, I think the number 2 ban was Janna, I know she was up there.

Aazzlano4 votes

Janna is like never banned lmfao. No idea what you are talking about. She has a 0.51% ban rate (once in 200 games)

And that's normals MMR. So what? I face Masters/Challengers in Normals all the time. Does that mean I'm Master/Challenger level? No lol.

If you can't climb out of bronze, that isn't the fault of DQ. Bronze is literally the worst players in the game, if you are unable to climb out of there, then you aren't better than them. Bronze premades aren't going to be any better than bronze solos lol.

http://champion.gg/statistics/#?sortBy=general.banRate&order=descend This site shows ONLY Plat+ statistics. Oh look, Ekko is the NUMBER ONE ban. Shocking.

And it's funny how you bring that I was carried to my rank like it would even be relevant. Like if I was, that my knowledge of what bans are in high elo would then be completely wrong. By the way, here is my op.gg http://na.op.gg/summoner/userName=aazzlano Dang, looks like I was totally carried to my elo! You were right all along!

LOL Then what's the point of his Q? A 120 damage "nuke"?

ProtestantCaesar6 votes

The point would be a potential for 2 passive stacks (on any number of enemies). I think it'd be better to take away the slow from his W, though. (And I'm not even sure if that's a good idea.)

deadlychuck2 votes

naw i'd say remove the slow on his W, only one of the 4 effects, as well as the slow from his passive. If you're going to give him two on hit effects there shouldn't be a slow attached to one of them too.

Alternatively i see no reason for such a champion to have an AOE stun, so just a basic slow and shield would be much better imo on his W. Even if that means maybe making the slow briefly more powerful when he enters the bubble.

Jackàl5 votes

""Remove the slow" , "remove the ult heal",nerfing tank ekko also nerfs ap ekko which is garbage, his kit looks and feels op but its not at all when you put it in a game.Im fine with nerfing tank ekko to the ground but i want to actually do something when playing ap,and nerfing his early and bases didnt helped at all since his early and mid game is his best

The Cane Master2 votes

Yes exactly. Although ability to flex Ekko in 3 roles (mid, top, jungle) is a good thing, it is only possible because his kit is overloaded and so much versatile. While I agree that mid Ekko should probably be a thing, full tank Ekko is broken, and the only way to fix it is to nerf his numbers (in this case slow on Q).

Captain Aishi4 votes

they should just remove the slow from Q and his passive entirely if you ask me, no way a champ with an aoe slow+stun, a dash and two blinks, and a movespeed boost should be allowed to permaslow targets as well

Ulquiorra9953 votes

Removing things is the only way to go now. Ekko has mobility, utility and damage on a single kit which is a balancing nightmare. Either he should lose utility and be balanced around being an assassin or lose damage or be balanced as a fighter or tank.

Spôôked5 votes

A suitable nerf for Ekko would be to just remove him from the game lol

Krys Star3 votes

His stun is also 2.25 flat, which is crazy stupid high as either a tank or a mage-assassin.

ModAcademy Kayn1 votes

It also has a three second delay. You have to predict where your opponent is going to be to even attempt to land it.

Krys Star1 votes

Regardless, making it a 2.25s stun one point wonder is absurdly strong. It has a gigantic radius. D:

ModAcademy Kayn1 votes

It's almost the size of Viktor's Stun field. And it being a one point wonder is because he needs that time to safely get autos off, for landing the hard to nail stun.
