Thoughts on Bruiser-Utility Aurelion Sol

I was just thinking about how Aurelion Sol isn't really a popular pick right now because of his melee in the fight nature but still him having few escapes making him a very vulnerable risky champion, and I thought what if you played him top and built a item 3027 and a item 3116 before going for a item 3742 which would synergize with his q and the need for moving around to hit your w or a item 3068 which would add more aoe damage and then finish off with a pair of item 3111 into some MR like a item 3102. I personally think it might work well (I'm about to try it now) considering his laning phase would be pretty strong and he'd provide relevant cc for his team through q and w and ult as well as decent damage. Ofc it would be paired with high damage adcs like Ashe or Tristana and another tanky-ish player on his team (Vladimir Mid, Sejuani Jungle, Leona Supp, those are some examples) since the 2 items for mana and utility would limit his overall survivability. This build might work similarly to a Maokai build, where you have SOME damage but generally work to soak up damage and provide constant relevant cc. Summoner spells: summoner 6 for the movespeed in fights and summoner 12 because top lane.

Starting Items: item 1056item 2003 item 2003 or item 2033 and item 3340 Core for Early-mid:item 3116 item 3027 item 3111 Doing Well: item 3742 (Roaming potential + mobility in fights to do more as well as pull off that galaxy sized q) Doing Not-so-well: item 3068 (Base damage that isn't altered if you're behind which can build up over a fight to become very relevant) Finish With Depending on Situation: item 3102 item 3143 item 3001 item 3068 item 3742 item 3512 (Sunfire and Deadmans are there because if you didn't do so well and bought a sunfire, you might want to build a deadmans later on its situational, and Zz'rot because movespeed, decent all-round tank stats, and potential to push out a side lane which combines with the waveclear Aurelion brings.

So its just an idea that I thought of and I'm asking for comments and suggestions because I actually find this style really fun and definitely want to improve on it so I can succeed as well

The damage just isn't consistent enough from him. Kinda like Ziggs and that's why he is not being played.

That build you've displayed gives no justice to sol, hes a zoning ap champ with consistent damage and burst damage. This is quite unique among champs in the the mid, all though the build you've given him makes him a disrupter in teamfights and would have to be compared to Sejuani Gnar Nautilus . These champs can all do that job but better, with more cc, higher base stats, and natural tank stats.

I find your build is decent if you want to start learning how to play sol and land stars, but its not showcasing the full power of the champ. The champ is unpopular not because he is bad but nobody really knows how strong he can be. I only say this because there is more then 10 one trick pony sol players in the Korean Challenger Latter. The other reason is the fact hes a new champ that hasn't' gained any buffs, only 3 nerfs since release. Which is very uncommon for a champ that was newly released but has a lower play rate then Singed .

If you've read this far thanks for reading my post, if you main sol and want a buddy who also plays sol just msg me. I've played him since release and haven't found him to be a bad champ yet. Thanks again for spending time to read my post, I'm also up for any discussion around sol.
