Please Stop Complaining About Riot Games People. Please.

I just want to put this out there as a player instead of a person working at riot. Stop complaining about everything riot does. They are people. They WILL make mistakes. They WILL do things that have a negative impact. But the point is, they almost always fix it in time. Now for some points about the balance team and prices.

Balance Team:

-The game is focused around counterplay and strategy, not spam all your buttons to win, so when they buff the raw stats of champions which can be counterplayed and slightly nerf the raw stats of champions that have no counterplay, it actually makes them both balanced.

-The balance team can't predict how the player base will react to a change or new champion. There's a huge amount of players in the game, and for example when they "nerfed" khazix to balance him and everyone was happy, but then somebody found out how to play khazix jungle after the changes, people started ranting about it saying it was op and why did they even buff someone who was already strong. Literally nobody predicted that bruiser khazix jg would happen, so they didn't take into consideration how strong that would be.

-When a champion obviously needs a nerf, it makes sense to implement a small change to test the waters before they go full out. If when Ekko was released and i was in the position of riot games, i would do the exact same thing as they did. Add a mana cost to his ult and lower his damage by just a bit. This would show whether the problem was in his utility, overall combination of his kit or stats. In this case it WAS his raw stats, so they nerfed those further until he was balanced.

-Not everyone can be satisfied with changes. One person wants a Lee Sin buff, the other wants a Lee Sin nerf. At least one will inevitably be dissatisfied. It's extremely rare (maybe even impossible) that the entire player base agrees upon the same thing unanimously, and in those cases where an overwhelming majority were unhappy changes happened in the next patch, (Ezreal on release was nerfed almost instantly).

-People complain about the dev team focusing too much on the competitive scene. That does have a piece of truth to it in my opinion, but honestly focusing on the competitive scene is actually just focusing on the higher level of play, where people think and actually strategize, which is what the game is about. In bronze certain champions win A LOT but the champion is actually balanced but simply has a mechanic that players are not willing to think about counterplaying. Early, early on in the game katarina is a really overpowered pick because players at that point don't have the skill or understanding of the game to counter her. In bronze, some people still complain about her. In silver, maybe 1 or 2 in 100 find her challenging to play against. In tiers where the game is almost fully understood almost nobody finds katarina overpowered. You can't start playing a Chopin piece as soon as you start learning the piano, but nobody complains that it was too difficult and should be made easier.

Prices:

-Its a company. They need money. Without money they can't run servers, hire people, change the game, create things like the LCS, and all that good stuff. Buying things in the game is COMPLETELY OPTIONAL. It's rare that a game makes itself completely free to play with all the impacting content free. So what if you have to pay to buy a COMPLETELY OPTIONAL skin that you like. Some skins are even offered free as rewards to people. The only reason you would need to spend money on this game is if you want to buy some skins or if you REALLY want to accelerate the process of unlocking all the content.

I agree with a lot of your argument, such as the competetive scene and the pricing and all... Well illustrated and supported. But balancing? eh... Real talk. I agree with you about the "you can't make everyone happy" shit, people still want fiora to be buffed or ziggs to be like veigar, whatever the case may be. The problem is, while the preseason is a testing ground, League of Legends is played by Humans. Humans don't like change, and fundamentally speaking, you shouldn't roll out massive reworks to not only champions, but to masteries and items too, even the flow of the gameplay.

Yeah, some champs got buffed or nerfed, big deal. The problem is. I grew up with this game based on the idea that theres early game ,mid game, and late game. Now it is ~15 minute-20 minute games. there is no mid/late game realistically... and if you are going to change up the way the ENTIRE GAME IS PLAYED. then do it slowly... change all the masteries and see how people react to it... and then release the item changes... etc. but you can't just change the entire foundations of literally everything and not expect the next World War to happen.

What would happen if the NFL said:

"YOU KNOW WHAT, WE ARE CHANGING FOOTBALLS TO BASEBALLS AND PLAYERS CAN USE BASEBALL BATS TO BEAT THE OTHER TEAM, AND QUARTERBACKS? FUCK THAT, THEY ARE CALLED NICKEL FRONTS AND THEY HAVE TO PUNT THE BALL FROM ONE END ZONE TO ANOTHER TO SCORE 11 POINTS. AND THEY CAN USE THE SNITCH FROM HARRY POTTER FOR AN INSTA-WIN

Yeah. Tell me how the US would react. It's the same concept. They rolled out too many things, too fast... That isn't a "balancing mistake" its just a logical mistake and presumably just a terrible way to introduce change. For instance, the jungle change of season 5 was introduced over time... they changed the monsters, then the items... then the smite... THEN the dragon buff etc... OVER TIME.

But when you slap everyone with a meat sausage? People wont take it too kindly.

The other point is: Yes, high elo players are obviously a main focus since they are top tier. But the whole point of any video game fundamentally is for it to be both fun and challenging. The problem is when you focus on the latter end of the equation, you lose your community of casual players and even competitive players like myself who just don't find it fun anymore. It is a very thin line of "fun and competitive" and "wow... I'm done"

In conclusion, pro players should ADAPT to the changes, not have the changes adapted to them if that makes any sense? it's just my thoughts, I enjoy your different perspective though bro!

You have a good point. Perhaps riot should take it down a notch from the competitive scene and just find that fine line that you talk about. I also completely agree with you on the 2016 changes. I mentioned above how usually they put things out slowly like nerfs or buffs to a champion, but for some reason in 2016 they just threw everything at us. Personally, i LOVE having this huge bursts of new content but that's probably just because i'm a scatterbrain and I can't deal with focusing on just one thing.

Yet Riot doesn't regard us as people or care that we might make mistakes. If we do something negative we get suspended, lose ranked rewards, or get permabanned. So why exactly should the players give any mercy to them?

First off, you intentionally ruining the game for everyone you play with is different from Riot doing their best to ensure their game is the most enjoyable (And by extension, most profitable) it can be.

Secondly, you're never given restrictions or bans for doing something negative once or twice. It's repeated negative behaviour thats reported by both your team and the enemy team that gets you those restrictions. The fact that you don't get permabanned right away is proof that they understand players make mistakes. They also give tons of leeway in the form of chat restrictions, and suspensions (Not to mention an actual written warning that has no other negative effects on your account) before they drop the permaban hammer.

You didn't get your rewards because you were a toxic asshole in game and got punished as a result. Don't cry and blame Riot for that. Blame yourself.

._. so... first of all michael. Not give mercy how? If you stop playing the game, they really don't care. Its one less issue to deal with if you're really ruining the game for everyone else. If they player base decided to "show riot games NO MERCY" then there would be no League of Legends, and that entire player base would disappear, making the whole thing completely redundant. The players should just understand that riot games has to cater to a bunch of unwritten rules decided in each individual mind of each and every player. All you have to do is adhere to the "summoners code", which is literally a video game adaptation of basic human decency. Don't abandon people to die. Don't be a sadist and cause people pain. Don't insult people and be rude to them. Those seem pretty simple and easy things to do compared to "Make every player out of millions that are playing this game happy and get everything right on first try". Finally, riot games fixes the mistakes they made, as mentioned above. If you get banned that means you've received several warnings and just didn't fix your behaviour

Is this post for real?

"Don't abandon people to die"?? We're playing a video game here. I'm pretty sure I can't abandon you to die. And if you somehow meant 'in-game', well that's not a part of the summoner's code. It's actually a really bad idea to stick around in a losing fight because then you die for no reason. So yeah, abandoning players to die is something you actually have to do sometimes. It's called "disengaging" from the fight.

"Don't be a sadist and cause people pain". Because what you type in chat can't be muted? If these people are so fragile that words on a screen hurt them deeply to their core, then maybe they've been too sheltered throughout their lives. Maybe they should really think about that. I mean it's not as if they have to sit there and take any kind of verbal abuse. With one click of a button they can make it all disappear. And before you go thinking that I'm advocating ruining someone's day, I'm not. I don't actually like it when people go off on me in game for various reasons or say that I'm terrible just because they died in lane and I happen to be the jungler (everything is the jungler's fault after all), but the difference is, if this behavior system wasn't in place I'd just dish it right back to them and then mute them. Case closed, problem solved. What you fail to understand is that the very measures Riot has put in place to stop global toxicity are the very things that are causing it. Riot is doing what so many institutions wrongfully do in order to combat a problem. They keep putting a band-aid on things. It's like the guns argument. "If there were no guns, then there would be no unlawful shootings by crazy people". No...there still would be; because you'll never get rid of all guns. Even if you could get rid of all guns, then there would be more knife-ings or strang-lings, etc. The reasons is because no one fixed the core problem: The mental disease. And it's the same thing here. No one at Riot is concerned about finding out what's making people so angry and trying to actually fix that.

Further, If they really wanted to remove toxic players it would be so much easier than they let on. If you are toxic, if even in ONE game, you get a 7-day ban. That's it, that's all. No permabans. You just immediately remove the toxic person from playing for a week the moment they are toxic. Players might still encounter toxic people this way, but at least they have the peace of mind to know that after this game that person will be sitting out for an entire week. It might actually make it easier to mute that person too, since you know that you have some power to stop the toxicity.

What happens instead is this: People see all these toxic people everywhere. It seems like, no matter what riot does, there's always at least 1 toxic player in every game. So it seems like the system doesn't work. A good player takes it and takes it and takes it--takes all of the abuse, choosing not to mute for some reason, and is left only with a very unsatisfying report at the end of the game that does nothing. Then, one game, that good person snaps. They say something back--say something off-color--and they get reported for it, but probably don't even know it. They think they've squeaked by. They don't actually care because Riot never seems to do anything about the trolls anyway. It happens again. Not the very next game, but the game after that. They get reported again, but the person still thinks they're in the clear. Next game they encounter a major troll--and it's in their promos to gold. The troll calls them trash for not ganking his lane and throws the game because of something that happened in the first 5 minutes of the game. They start feeding, stealing buffs, and continuously harass you. You go off on them. You just lost your promos because of this person--it's the 3rd time you've lost them because of people like this. So you say some very not-nice things, and the troll, your teammates, and even the other team reports you--because you complained about the troll in 'all-chat'. You get a 14-day suspension. What's worse, because it happened when there was a rare blue moon out, between the constellation equinox and galvenox you won't be getting your ranked rewards this season. First game back from your 14-day ban, you go into a game of league. Someone calls you trash because they died in lane and you 'didn't help them'. Great system Riot has going on here.

What they've done is set things up so that each individual player feels as though they've been wronged. Only very few people will actually admit that they've been toxic assholes the entire time. Most people feel that they were toxic because of legitimate circumstances. Riot says, "you can never be toxic, no matter the circumstances". Then you play 10 games in a row where people are all toxic towards you. Something is wrong and broken.

One thing that I really want you to understand is that you don't get banned only if you've had "several warnings". I got a 14-day ban in early august and I had no warnings. A Rioter confirmed that it was because of ONE game, and in that particular game I was being trolled by my support who ended the game with a 4% kill participation, while I had something like 60 or 70%. So this system doesn't even work fairly. I agree, I SHOULD have gotten a warning first. I should have got a message saying "what you said here is unacceptable and if it happen again you will be banned for 14-days". I definitely would have taken a message like that seriously. I'd never have gotten banned and I would still have my ranked rewards. I also would have continued throwing money at this game. It would have been a win for everybody. But instead, Riot chooses to make the worst decisions possible.

A lot of people aren't playing this game because they like Riot or their decisions. They are playing quite simply because they like the game. You don't buy watermelons because you like the place they're grown; you like watermelons because they taste good. If one place has the best watermelons you've ever eaten you'll keep going back to that place until you find a place that has even better watermelons.

First off, you intentionally ruining the game for everyone you play with is different from Riot doing their best to ensure their game is the most enjoyable (And by extension, most profitable) it can be.

You start this off with a misconception; that I intentionally try to ruin games for everyone that I play with. That's just not true. A person can get banned for cussing out a troll or for defending themselves in game. This isn't a simple case of black and white like you (and Riot) are trying to make it out to be. In every single other area in the world circumstance matters. But not with Riot games. Why? Because that's too much work for them to do.

They also don't do everything they can to make this game enjoyable or profitable. They actually make some pretty terrible decisions. How is taking ranked rewards away from someone who is no longer toxic an enjoyable thing or a profitable thing? How is unethically punishing someone after the fact a good idea? That person hasn't been toxic in 3 months; probably never will be again; why take their rewards away on top of it? All you're doing is making them hate you, the game, and never spend another cent on it.

Further, if we really want to get into it, the entire idea of banning players permanently is bad for business. Do you realize how many "free-to-play" players stay "free" solely because they could get permabanned one day? You may think, "well, these people are probably also toxic, so if they're worried about getting permabanned, then good! They should worry, and if they are toxic then they will get banned! Working as intended!! Huzzah!" Except that these people don't get permanently removed from the game once permabanned. They just create another account, so the permabanning does NOTHING. All it does is ensure that the toxic person never spends money on the game. Which is a loss of business for Riot.

What would be better is if people were instantly banned for 7-day or 14-days the moment they said anything ban-worthy. If they call someone a dumbass, in even one game, and they get reported, they're out for 7-days. No permabans. Just remove the people immediately by way of the robot system. No more toxic player for a while. You get the added benefit of knowing your report will matter, so you probably won't be so stressed over what they said to you. That person will be upset for getting kicked for a week, but they likely will think twice before using foul language next time. Otherwise it's another instant 7-day ban. And the person will probably still feel good about buying things in the game since their account will still be there in a year.

You are most definitely given restriction for doing something negative once or twice. If you personally haven't gotten such restrictions/bans then just consider yourself lucky, because it does happen--it just didn't happen to you, so you don't care. You also can get permabanned right away. It's amazing what the average player doesn't know. You're lucky I decided to reply to you--you're exactly the type that would end up with a permaban out of the blue and be posting on the forums "WAAAH I got permabanned but I didn't do anything; I just said one thing in one game!" Then you'd have to endure the other passive-aggressive-toxic-white-knight-riot-fanboys voting you down and telling you to "get rekt". Then you'd have Lyte pulling up games from 2009 where you said some off-color things to back up the fact that you deserved your permaban.

They don't give you a written warning first. I don't know where you heard this nonsense. I have proof from a Riot player-behavior-specialist saying straight up that you could always get banned for a single game without any warnings or punishments beforehand. Doesn't have to be "hate-speech" either, like most people think. You could just call someone a "dumbass" too many times and you're done. It's always been this way, but since most people think that's ridiculous they've chosen to make up things that are actually more reasonable, as you have.

I didn't get my rewards because I was trolled in a game and got angry about it. You're under the impression I just started bashing my teammates for no reason, because I'm somehow some deviant with a bad attitude who hates women and puppies. That's not the case at all, and I have refrained from using any such "bad language" since the incident took place. Further, the ONLY reason I get the ban to begin with was due to the automated system. I never had a warning or any kind of restriction before this (except I think I got one of those chat restriction during season 3 when that big wave of them went out-but nothing else). I had behaved in much the same manner since season 2, and by not being punished at all I thought I was well within Riot's threshold for toxicity. But I wasn't. I learned that and I changed my behavior--which was the point of the whole system to begin with. I actually didn't know that I wouldn't be getting rewards until right when it happened. So what's the point of not getting them now? It's a punishment after the fact. It makes no sense. And it's things like this that add to player toxicity. I get trolled, get angry about it, and now Riot is essentially defending the troll. And so are you. You are both basically saying, "Good for you--you deserve to lose your rewards because you got trolled and didn't just sit there and shut your mouth. You deserve it. Next time, leave the poor troll alone."

What I'm blaming Riot for is the way they've handled this whole thing (and even one of those arbiter guys with the blue names agrees with me). They treat their players like trash and just because you haven't been personally subjected to it yet doesn't mean it won't happen to you or can't happen to you.

I wouldn't call them stupid_ persay, but definitely a bit too righteously indignant about issues that they really didn't think about before ranting on about them. People should always think about the perspective from the other side before they put up arguments. I originally was a bit sick and tired of always facing champions that seemed to always win before I thought about it from the side of riot games.

As much as I'd hate getting on the hate train... riot compromised the stability of the entire game ecosystem. It may be appealing to the newer playerbase, but for the older people who stuck around, it's an experimental nightmare for the majority.

And you know something's wrong when 90% of the posts are compaining about something in this patch. Yeah, I know there's a typo in 'complaining', but it fit so well that I just kept it in there :P

Whether this is growing pains or wounds is yet to be determined.

I play LoL since season 2. Every 2-3 months i see people in forums crying and shouting that Riot killed the game, threatening that they will leave or already left. Ofc always with the pompous declares that LoL is dying or will die the next year

Its no different this time, just bussiness as usual. The majority of people who visit forums will be displeased more often than not, cuz if they were not they wouldnt spend their time in forums instead of playing the game in the first place

Let the loud minority feel relevant and just laugh at their threats.

You obviously don't understand how feedback works then. Feedback is code for "bitching about problems with the game" yes, there are people who post crap and cry that they lost against lux as Talon... But realisitically, a lot of our "bitching" and "crying" is just things that a game company messed up on that show be overlooked, so laugh at our threats sure. But it is just criticism meant to improve a game we all love. We aren't quitting because we hate it... quite the contrary its because we love it.

I agree they tried to do way too much but champions like yasuo and tryndamere will be nerfed in time or the warlords bloodlust will. Yasuo and trynd are strong but so are jax and yi with the fury mastery and champions like fizz with the deathfire mastery. They tried to make masteries more powerful and impacting which makes sense so expect them to affect some champions HEAVILY

"Some" champions? That is the problem. The masteries either made champs better or worse, most of which are/were in situations where it wasn't needed.

They said they knew the masteries would be op on them but wanted to wait and have people suffer before nerfing the mastery, or them, just incase it didn't turn out to be op.

The game is now balanced only for pro players on voice comms, playing Lee Sin, Rek'Sai and Elise in the jungle, who have boots + sightstone + jungle item at 20 minutes in, leaving all camps for the ADC overlords, or for the pros on voice comms playing only Lulu mid because she is the best for peeling for ADC overlords, or playing Yasuo mid because he is an ADC overlord himself. Did I mention that the only player who really matters is your ADC overlord, Yasuo or Tryndamere?

The game used to be balanced around everyone but mostly looking at mid-high elo solo queue. If you balance solely for pro-play, you get these RIDICULOUS game pace changes.

I am not talking about individual champions or winning or losing. I don't play normals and I don't care about losing in ranked. Here's what I have to say: the overall pace of the game is way way way too fast. Snowballing is too much. I've seen more ragequits and "gg 10 min, open mid" in the past 3 days than in the entire of season 4 and 5. Towers are paper. The jungle is way too hard and anything except pro picks are unplayable. ADCs can now facetank bruisers and assassins without even moving. It is absolutely ludicrous.

BattleMage1309021 votes

The 2016 changes just happened and they need time to make edits and sort things out. Its been less than a week. Can you change code and fix bugs and patch things in less than a week for such a massive update? I doubt it. If the game becomes a 2 hour game with slowpaced action, then its not exciting and doesn't fit in the timeframe of most normal people

As their customers we should provide feedback, even if negative. And, when they don't listen, they run the risk of losing customers.

BattleMage1309021 votes

my point is that the feedback should actually make sense. If they make impossible demands and demand that a champion be nerfed just because they got beaten by that champion in the last game, every champion in the game would have 2 damage on each ability.
